Hello,
According to the FAQ:

“With very few exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) today will function in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.”

My understanding of this is that anything you purchased anywhere will probably work.

I don’t understand how will they work unless developers agree. For example if pmdg decides to resell its products also for msfs24, what is going to happen? You need a proper installer which should be provided by the company.
If ms wants extra money for its existing features, pmdg has a right to say the same. They may add some nonsense features and voila! (I gave the name only for an example )

Context is important. The question that your answer pertains to states the following:

“Will all purchases users have made from the Marketplace be transferrable to the new simulator?”

This makes their answer a bit confusing. I do think it’s clear though that, if anything, add-ons might require minimal work by the developer to make them fully compatible. If that’s the case, planes like the Boeing 247D become a red flag, as the dev has been radio silent for over a year now. If any work at all is required on that add-on, it’s dead in the water. Then you take a look at add-ons like everything from Black Square. All of their planes require MSFS2020 base-game planes. Hopefully we’re getting to carry over all of the 2020 base game planes depending on which version of MSFS you purchased. This way we can keep flying FBW, Black Square, and others.

At any rate, I’m looking forward to learning more next week at the Expo.

How can any third party give you an answer to this question if they don’t have any more information than us? Many have communicated intend to support both sims going forward but we have to practice some patience to really know what’s gonna happen.

I for one absolutely believe this will be a non-issue and all the fuss is just unnecessary drama and speculation. I feel many just jump to conclusions because they think the world is against them. I think we’ll be just fine and have a new wonderful toy to play with

Either the upgrade would break all addons, or they all will work. Microsoft isn’t going to make the decision to only support addons from its Marketplace with DRM. I mean not only would that be ruling out SimMarket, Orbx (who is an official partner) but also flightsim.to.

So the assurance that most addons will work means both Marketplace and external addons. They just state “virtually all” because there may be some that don’t work. Focusing on the literal verbiage isn’t doing anyone any justice. Microsoft is not going to be vindictive and only put reliance on their store. External addons will be fine.

Releasing a new game in every 3 years definitely affect customer choices. I don’t think same quantity of addons would sell from now on. I have been playing my Dcs world addons for many years, some even more than 10 years
