The i5-12400f is the only cpu i can upgrade too with my financial status. Will this CPU be good enough for Medium settings. I will be upgrading my GPU at a later stage but would just like to know if this cpu will be ok.

Most certainly yes, but what are you using graphics?
Yes it is, mine is a i5-9400f and it runs Just fine. For the graphic settings you mostly depend on the GPU.
The 12400 has the same single core performance as the 11900k so yes you’ll be fine.
