Hopefully we get lightning back globally in live weather. Is there any indication that this is being fixed for MSFS 2024? Currently i never get any lightning in Europe, i have seen it a lot in South America though.
I switched to Active Sky for weather and I am very pleased with the results, including lightning when appropriate, and more realistic turbulence and cloud formations. I believe they have an offer on at the moment, which in my humble opinion is worth buying.
This may be a Euro-centric issue. I’ve flown several times this past week in stormy weather around the US southeast and had plenty of lightning and thunder.
i think the problem is that the live weather has been watered down considerably, i cant find a good way to put it, but, its like it shows about 50% of the intensity of whatever the weather phenomena is current for the location, and most of the time it just shows clear skies
lightning and thunder are still there, no doubt, but they are extremely hard to find, you need a weather that’s extreme enough to overcome this “watering” down (for lack of a better term)
for instance, yesterda,y in the hurricane, there was plenty of it
It’s been YEARS since I’ve seen thunder and lightning. And I’m mostly flying at night, so I should be able to see it from very far. Yet, nothing.
A few days ago thunder and lightning appeared as I flew from Malta in a southerly direction.
I saw lightning yesterday when approaching Miami from the west
It only ever seems to appear outside of METAR coverage.
I saw it sitting on the ground in Nashville a few days ago during pre-flight prep.
When there is lightning in real life and it is even mentioned in the metar, there should be lightning in the sim as well. Doesn’t seem too hard to implement, but often this is not working in 2020.
its kind of working…
there has to be A LOT of thunder “out there”… in order to see “some” in the sim
