Is this fixed for Update 2 I wonder? The extreme winds are doing very strange things with my plane, like constantly yeeting it up and down +1000fpm to -1000fpm, landing in crosswind yeets my plane over and such.
Its making playing missions not very fun since just a few things will tank progress.
Iâm in the beta, the winds seem to be much better.

That sounds great, hopefully its ready for live soon!
Anybody tried the SU2 beta and found improvements to the weather? I really want to play career but arriving at the destination to find 50kt crosswinds in a 172 every time is not fun. Especially since thereâs almost never weather info in the EFB so you canât even attempt to avoid destinations with high wind. The always high turbulence is also annoying. The âsky mountainsâ where you seemingly get pushed up/down by every terrain bump you fly over even at 10k ft is super annoying. Then thereâs the Beaver, eats 4x the fuel it should, nosedives into the runway with careful gentle braking, and a totally broken autopilot. Is any of this fixed in SU2 beta?
Use the career mode world map before you hit the fly button. Set the time slider to the published mission time (the red dot will appear on the mission icon when youâve chosen the correct time range) and use the layers buttons to activate the wind overlay. You can then see the wind the sim thinks it will use.

Thanks, I hadnât tried that yet. It seems like it sometimes works. A lot of the time it will say âmap layer only available with live weatherâ or similar error message. Other times it just doesnât display any wind. Either way I guess itâs a little better since I can somewhat get a guess at the winds before going. One time I got it to work it looked like zero winds at the destination, when I got there it was heavy turbulence and a 15kt crosswind but at least not the 50kt cessna-suicide-landing that seems more frequent.
Yes, it can be glitchy - I found the best way to remediate those errors is to exit all the way out of career mode to the main menu, then go in and try again. As far as the wind discrepancy, we still donât know all the little âtruthsâ the sim is interpreting on a micro scale. One other thing to consider is checking the forecast wind (using the same method as before), at the expected arrival time.

It really seems like thereâs a silly bug with a misplaced decimal point causing all wind and turbulence to 10x what they should be. Why in the world did they release it in this state?
Turn off âreal world weatherâ
Canât speak for when wind is getting the wrong data, in my experience itâs been in the ballpark 95% of the time. But I understand thatâs not the case for everyone and again, some of it comes back to truth in data.
Turbulence is a tough one. Terrain and obstructions do affect turbulence in the real world but in the sim they seem to amplify it a lot more than they should. However, our perception of turbulence in the real world is very different as our eyes and brains tend to auto-stabilize a lot of the instantaneous movement that we continue to feel (which can also affect the attitude of the aircraft). When the same movement is projected onto a stationary screen it looks bonkers, and of course we donât feel it, but in my experience itâs actually not too far off. Continuous moderate turbulence, which is not an uncommon occurrence, can be downright exhausting in a light aircraft.
