Hi all
I dont want to start a massive debate about wind in the sim - and to be honest i would like to hear from some real world pilots.
How significant is a 6 knot crosswind in a GA craft?
I have been flying the PA24 (A2A) and I do love the plane and I fly the Black Square King Air, Baron etc etc.
It seems that a 6 knot crosswind knocks the GA planes all over the place. Yawing left and right and generally a bit of a handful. I live near an airfield and i have seen some very windy conditions and the planes dont APPEAR to be getting knocked about so much (of course these could be great pilots)
If i set it to medium, it feels like that is how it should respond in my uneducated opinion- less buffeting.
Happy to be corrected - just interested to know what the professional consensus is.
thanks
mark
A 6kt crosswind at 90 degrees to the runway, in a light aircraft (and even a microlight) is not particularly significant whatsoever (RW pilot).
Sadly this, for me, is an area this sim really continues to let us down. Fingers crossed for 2024….
Ian.

Personally im on low, on medium i had a Cessna 140 flipped onto its back on a nice warm summers day by a 10 knot wind and helicopters acted like gliders being thrust 500 feet into the air on each gust

Wind or turbulence?? A steady state wind speed of 6 kts is barely worth talking about.
The PA28 to 32 have a POH crosswind value of 17 kts. That is a lot more challenging but with practice still manageable.
In our Saratoga I gradually worked my way up to 32kts crosswind using the so called crab&kick method.
Turbulence is somewhat different because it is of course much more dynamic and the closer you get to the runway the smaller the margin of error gets. However usually the proximity to the ground also smoothes out some of the turbulence…unless you have trees, buildings etc that create additional turbulence or wind eddies.
In the sim I did also turn down the turbulence slider, because the effect in my opinion is way over exaggerated when flying GA aircraft. Maybe it feels natural to the tubeliner folks. I can’t judge that based on a couple hours in a A320 sim and a couple hundred flights in the self loading cargo area😉

Thank you all for your reponses. I will remain on the medium setting.

mostly turbulence I’m talking about wind itself doesn’t bother me so much
