Windows 10 end of support in 2025

So it was told that MSFS will be a 10 year project, but now it seems that the OS it was built on going to be retired in 4 years. Even if previously Microsoft has stated that they are not going to end Windows 10 as a whole, but rather update it to a newer versions. Do you think it will also mean some changes to the MSFS as it was built for Windows 10 only?

It came out in 2015, so 2025 is a 10-year project?

Ah you mean MSFS a 10-year project.

You do know the next version of Windows will also run older software right?

This is not always the case, and you see - MSFS also can’t run on Windows 8.1 or 7. Moreover, sometimes there’s still some comptability issues that may come later with the new version of Windows. I am also not sure how Microsoft will handle people who would still use Windows 10. So, tl;dr there’s still a lot of serious questions left.

Windows 8.1 and 7 are older than Windows 10, not newer. You seem to have it backwards?

I’m sorry if you think I’m being sarcastic. I’m being 100% serious.

Whatever the next version of Windows is, it will run Windows 10 software. There’s no doubt of this at all.

At some point, they might drop Windows 10 support from MSFS and you’ll need to upgrade. Maybe, maybe not. We’ll see. But that’s about the only question there.

The product will evolve, and just be given a new name. Nothing to worry about here. They could also amend those dates at will as they own the product.

I hope there will be no problems. But I am also confused how will they handle the people still sitting on Windows 10, as there’s always a lot of people who don’t upgrade they system in the years to come.

Probably the same way they handled Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1. By encouraging people to upgrade and progressively dropping support for the OS and for software running on it.

Eventually everyone will have upgraded or replaced their old computers except a few random machines sitting here and there.

No need to be confused. The same thing will happen that has always happened. If they can get a future version of MSFS to work on Windows 10, as well as what it evolves into in say 8 years time, good. If not they will simply state that the product requires the future iteration of Windows to keep working.

Windows 10 is just a name, weather they upgrade under the same name or under a new name is not relevant in a technical perspective.

There’s absolutely nothing to worry about. Windows 11 will just take over and thats it. Maybe a newer version of windows could even have positive effects, who knows? But one thing is for sure, it will do absolutely NOTHING in terms of you being able to enjoy your sim or the sim being able to evolve, nothing. I really don’t understand your concern here at all. Besides, Asobo and Ms flight sim would already be informed for a while about OS changes and develop with that in mind.

That’s really nice to hear. Seems I was just overly worried, and 4 years is a pretty big time to take care of the things.

All good! Sit back and enjoy the developments. So many good things to come yet! Cheers

Those machines being predominantly concentrated in the offices of petroleum pipelines, meat producers, and used for other critical infrastructure purposes…

Windows 11 is out there.

Closing as OP has marked solved for his question.

All we know is that MSFS started as a 10 year project.
