Windows 11 24H2 and MSFS: observations, insights, issues and tips

I also stopped auto updates and try to continue 23H2 as long as possible as I love my Reverb G2 and do not want to invest hundreds of dollars in an other headset with limited improvements to quality and performance compared to my HP headset.

Is 24H2 out to the general public? I do not seem to be getting this update.

I think the ‘windows.old’ folder gets deleted automatically after 10 days (?).

Just out of interest, if you copied the ‘windows.old’ folder to another drive and then copied it back, say, 30 days later could you still restore the ‘old’ windows files?

Just thinking here of other options rather than creating a system image.

Hi there, Here’s a link that might help you. I hope that I can post this…
How to upgrade Windows 11 24H2 by joining Insider Program? - Microsoft Community

Hi @XO2Sb ,

See my post earlier in this topic:

I upgraded Windows 10 to Windows 11 on October 6th

windows.old folder is still on the C drive

I’ve never actually tested whether copying windows.old folder and restoring it after the grace period would work. I’m concerned that even if you manage to manually copy the folder back, after the grace period has passed, Windows may have already removed or disabled the ability to restore from it.

I’m afraid that after the period during which you can revert to the previous version of the system, the “Go back” option will be grayed out, meaning you won’t be able to restore the system that way.

Ah okay. I did not realise it was general rollout! Thanks

I have not received it either, apparently it is a gradual rollout and I am hear in California. I would of thought they would have released it to us.

Built my current PC a couple of months ago and installed Windows without any of the bloatware.

Today it auto updated to 24H2 and put back some of the bloatware .

One Drive
Windows Teams
Outlook
Dev Home

@Kayembee370 Today I noticed that I no longer have windows.old folder on my C drive and as I suspected “Go back” option is grayed out.

Today is 12th day since upgrading Windows to version 24H2.

How did you stop auto updates?

Go back up this thread to approx. post #33.

Find a post by TenPatrol that starts with “I noticed that Windows 11 24H2 was downloading updates…”

It includes detailed instruction if you click where it says “how to”.

Anyone have any comparisons for the 5800x3d on W10 vs W11? Information I’ve found for the 5800x3d has been sparse and only compared to an earlier W11 build.

Check out what happened to me while using Windows 11 24H2 and MSFS.

I’m still in shock.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but I’m pretty sure that ever since I upgraded to 24H2 I’m experiencing much more consistent freezing ingame. And the weird part is that it’s not just the game that freezes but the rest of the PC becomes unusable for upwards of a few minutes. Once things settle down, MSFS becomes responsive as do the reset of my applications running in the background.

Windows 11 24H2 installed a couple of days ago and I ended up doing a recall back to 23H2. Wifi would randomly not connect after startup, the new screen capture (ie multiple options available when hitting print screen) stopped working. Turning it off then on in Accessibility didn’t get it running again. Guess this was broken by 24H2 as rolling back to 23H2 fixed this.

My Logitech rudder pedals started getting a driver compatibility error, which would fail to load the driver. The Win 11 response indicated I should turn off some safety features to get it to work. Didn’t want to do this and solved the problem by installing the Windows 10 drivers, as Logitech haven’t released any Win 11 drivers.

There were a couple of other minor issues I can’t remember now, but when rolling back to 23H2 the problems all disappeared with the exception of the Wifi connection. Note that rolling back throws you out of anything you have logged into, so you have log back on to everything.

But nothing in MSFS was affected by 24H2 or the rollback to 23H2. The Wifi problem persisted after rolling back to 23H2, but selecting a different connection fixed the problem. Not sure if this is related to 24H2 but the wifi problems only started after the update.

Seems a lot of people are having general problems with 24H2 when I googled all my 24H2 problems. Also found this video on how to block just 24H2. Haven’t tried this myself, as I thought I would just pause updates to let MS patch 24H2.
