Windows 11 and MSFS: observations, insights, issues and tips

anyone tested the " KB5124010 " version ? any clues?

Yes, I installed KB5124010 on 9/22/2026 and I had a hard crash (kernel-power error) within an hour and I wasn’t even gaming. Nothing bad has happened since but I’m still monitoring it as I never have a crash.

Tempting…

… well I installed it, which took all of 2 minutes, and now I can change the size of the Start Menu and the Taskbar. So far seems ok.

Hope its good, I’m a little nervous about it at the moment and holding off for a while.
Everything works great currently, and I’m a happy camper.

Nervous about what? It’s fine.

26H2 is installed, and so far so good. No issues here.

far less stutters on WIN 11 26H2

It’s another one of those enablement packages. Similar to the 24H2 to 25H2 update. A lot of the code is already there, just not activated.

It literally was a minute and a bit for me, including the reboot, and for the login screen to reappear.

After install, applications like Explore, Chrome, and others just feel snappier. They open faster, their menu items seem quicker.

I’ve not tried it with the sim yet, but OS responsiveness seems improved quite a bit.

@hobanagerik Have to agree with you on the snappiness of the OS now.

Also haven’t noticed any audio issues that some of us experienced when switching to 25H2, so great there!

One thing I noticed, out of my three systems all running W11 Home and updated to 26H2 yesterday, only two of the three have the new taskbar settings. Oh well. Just glad

I have completed several flights in SU 7 beta and 26H2 with no issues and no noticeable difference to me.

Hello,
My laptop is ready to install the new W1 feature update, as it is only used for FS2020, I do not want to suddenly find ‘issues’. So has any one had any problems after updating?

It’s been already discussed… Have a look starting here (if you mean 26H2) on this global thread : Windows 11 and MSFS: observations, insights, issues and tips - #449 by lorenzog896900

No issues here after the update.

I have a personal benchmark of how long it takes 2024 to fire up to the main menu. What I am aiming for is the point the deer in the trees appear. Somtimes its a little after that, usually after a new patch has been deployed, but infrequently its before that. I realise that it is for the most part dependent on cloud service responsiveness, but there has to be a local element too, such as the patch process.

Yesterday, after 26H2 was installed, and rebooted, I got to the first menu page just as the yellow cub appeared on the ground, which is very good. But then months ago I did have one session where it appeared when the plane was still in the air as Yosemite(?) appeared, but I consider it a good omen all the same.

ok thanks. Not sure why, but when I searched for W11 update, nothing came back.

From what I read, there’s very little core difference between 25H2 and 26H2 other than resetting the EoL clock back to 24 months. The biggest difference I’ve found so far is the ability to move the task bar to the top or side of the monitor, and the ability to set it to a smaller size.

So, Windows 11 26H2 has just been released. I haven’t had access to my home PC for a week, so I haven’t been able to test it yet.

I’m wondering whether, for an MSFS 2024 PC, it would be a good idea to do a clean installation of Windows 11 26H2 rather than upgrading from the existing Windows installation.

Has anyone here done a clean install of 26H2?

It’s not necessary, simply update to 26H2. All is fine with MSFS 2024.

Btw - the 26H2 update is only an enablement package as all of the features have already been installed at some point previously. Therefore, the update is very quick and it only takes a minute or two. Not to say that a fresh install wouldn’t be good, however, the feedback has been very positive so far with the 26H2 update and that includes my experience also.
