Windows 11 Install Thursday?

If in fact Win 11 is released this Thursday, 6/24 I’m thinking of doing a fresh install of that and of course MSFS2020. You never know, benefits may include finally resolving the CTDs I get on my RX5700XT drivers newer than 20.10.1.

I highly recommend to stay away from release versions if you have the option, or at least wait a week to see if others report bugs

Thank you, I will take your advice…

Given MS didn’t bother with Dx 12 on MSFS don’t count on them making sure Wx 11 is going to be flawless with MSFS, krikey the MSFS software is still buggy as hell so being first in line will get you two beta testing badges at once.

I believe it is only being announced on June 24. Then you will know when it will be released, probably after Xbox in July aug, my guess only.

exactly. Its not confirmed yet that it will launch on 24th.

Yes, the release date rumours are all over the place.

Since the latest Windows 10 version is the “May update” and they try to stick to a 6 month cadence I would be thoroughly surprised if Windows 11 launches before this fall.

Agreed. There’s almost 0% chance of it actually launching this week. A new Windows release is big news (both good and bad), there will be at least a six month (or more) marketing + release campaign.

I’ll just leave this right here: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/9i90_-HpVz0

They haven’t even announced it yet, everything I have seen at least are all rumors. I highly doubt they are going to just drop a new version of their flagship product unannounced and in some random update.

There’s absolutely 0% chance of a W11 RTM in the next few months. June 24th is only a show, the new OS looks like W10 with a new explorer-shell, no reason why MSFS2020 shouldn’t run.

The RTM is likely ASAP to allow manufacturers time to incorporate it into their builds and change any drivers (there shouldn’t be much to do there, though).

As a Windows Insider I can confirm that 21H2 is the likely release but this has not yet been released to the Beta Channel (pretty sure it is not in the Dev Channel either) - however, for a new OS release, I am not sure if they will even use the Insider Programme for testing at all. :man_shrugging:

It would be my guess that they will announce an official release date but it will be in the next few months (as most have said) and then immediately do the RTM and Insider releases.

Nope. It isn’t. If it was being released this Thursday, it would likely be in the dev channel already. Thursday will be the announcement, and likely 21H2 the actual release, which is still a few months away.

So you, as an employee / representative of Microsoft, are saying don’t trust Windows 11?

I remember when Windows 10 was being developed that the Microsoft decision was that it was to be the final version of Windows, and would simply be updated. No new future versions were to be made…

This is why I don’t like reading “rumours” there’s too much misinformation everywhere these days. And a lot of people speculating and making assumptions. Sad truth about journalism these days, Like it’s better to be first rather than being right.

If it’s not officially announced by Microsoft, as far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t exist.
