Windows 11 Upgrade

With some trepidation I took the plunge and allowed windows update to install Windows 11 yesterday.

I am glad I went for it. I am getting a 30 second decrease in the loading time of MSFS to the main menu since transitioning to Win 11. (Total time now 3 min 15 secs with 215GB in official folder and 42GB in community folder)

VR is noticeably smoother, a bit sharper and clearer and overall a better experience. I was interested (and pleased) to see that Win 11 kept the driver I was using for Win 10 intact, 457.30. This driver, for me, has been the best for VR to date.

Over all MSFS feels as if it is running better. For me, using developer mode and the sdk ingame compiler is a slightly faster experience as well.

System: i5-9600k, 1060 6gb, 32 gb ram Oculus rift CV1

HAGS was left off for me and my power settings of “high performance” were retained.
I did check the properties in device manager for usb devices and had to, once again, disable the option allowing the computer to turn off these devices to save power.

Every other non MSFS application seems to be working well (or better) under Win 11.

The only slight fly in the ointment was that after the migration shift+windows+s no longer works for snip and sketch, a tool I use extensively. However this seems to be a wider problem than just my PC, judging by various comments around the web for those who upgraded from Win 10 pro to Win 11 pro. (There are 3rd party alternatives available and I quite like the option I went for, ShareX.)

Do you still have the Windows Start Menu shortcut?
if so you can ‘drag and drop’ that on the desktop to create a new link

Thanks.

No. Dissapear elsewhere in my PC. The only thing a have is all the folders of the simjulator in its place.

According to this Snip&Sketch still works.

Yes, Snip & sketch still works ok for me with shift + Windows + S.

It shows up at the top of the screen as a small toolbar with a few icons on it.

I just download a Windows 11 update, which fixed my volume issues. Am not sure about printer and another program which was not working right. But sound issues is fixed.

In my case the correct printer drivers appeared in optional updates a couple of days after unsuccessfully trying to install the Windows 10 drivers.

In the past I have just installed the current driver, which goes out and gets the latest from Epson’s site. I won’t know if it works, until I use printer, and have nothing to print now.

I do know my other program does not work well. Going to uninstall and then reinstall the latest version since that is what Support said to do.

IT’s getting there, in about 6 months they will have it great.

Snip&Sketch stop to work after Oct/31

To fix this do this:
Open config, select time & change date
Delete auto time & change auto to manual and set oct/30
Opne the Snip&Sketch and it works perfect
Back to menutime and clic -auto- & Thats it

I use this all the time, on the forums here for example.

Or at least until the recent forum software update. It looks like snips over a certain size just hang, and won’t upload. Smaller ones always seem to work though. For the larger ones I have to same them to disk as a JPEG, then upload them rather than just paste PNG image that is in the clipboard.

Thank you so much! That tip worked perfectly and now snip & sketch with shift+windows+s works as I remember it.

Even after a reboot it is still working, even with the system time now back to automatic settings

Use Greenshot. Lightweight screenshot util, and can configure with single button press captures. Crop it how you want later.

I have updated my pc to Windows 11 as I was getting constant CTDs and driver timeouts with my Rx 5700XT and holey smokes, I have done 3 2-3 hour long flights and no crashes plus it feels like it runs better performance wise and I can crank the settings back up.

Same here with my RT5700XT.

I agree, I had a similar experience. My only problem was loading Win11 in the 1st place. It didn’t like all my USB devices plugged in while installing. But worked fine once installed and then plugged in. MSFS works better for me on Win11

I also updated to Windows 11 yesterday. After a few jerks at the gate in Munich, I deleted the rolling cache, restarted the sim, created a new, slightly larger rolling cache and restarted it again and put myself back in the same parking position and see: no more jerking when panning the camera!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to fly because of lack of time, so I’ll make up for that. However, I’ve also tried Battlefield V and Star Wars Battlefront II and here I see significant improvements in both graphics and performance. Above all, HDR has been massively improved! I wouldn’t have thought
so far it looks like the decision to update to Windows 11 was the right one.

Since upgrading to Windows 11, I have been getting a crash whenever I alt+tab out of the sim. Never had this issue in Windows 10. Verified my drivers, dxdiag, reinstalled the sim, cleared out any 3rd party software
nothing works to fix this
I have over 400 hours in the sim with less than five total crashes in the timeframe.

Running an i7 9700KF, GTX 2080 Super and 32GB of RAM. This isn’t a hardware spec issue. Something software related for sure.

If HDR implementation has improved, I will definitely be interested in Windows 11 sooner.

May be this can be used to help somebody who can be in a similar case similar what happened to me. Yesterday I told you yesterday than my shortcut of fs2020 was disappear from my PC. Finally, I solved the problem, though it cost me a long time till I discover the cause.

When I switch on my pc, it asked to me to initialize it with a new password. So, I create a new account. When the restart the pc the account was the second one, not the first in which I have installed Fs2020. Like I suspect something, I restart the pc with the old account, and there it was again the shortcut.

So, be careful to initiate your pc always win the same account in which you installed the sim.
Anyway I have not yet installed windows 11 though I have it ready to install as soon as I discover I have not to install again the sim.
