You can see official winds aloft in graphical format here- AWC - Winds/Temps Data (aviationweather.gov) Lower is sometimes better but the lower the airplane is flown, the fuel burn increases. It is sometimes better to stay in the high wind which is the worst in the 30-38,000’ range but usually gets weaker above 40,000 feet which it does in the current winds aloft forecast.
