That’s what I do now, but it took a while before I figured it out. Some explanation would have been helpful at the time of implementation. I now just put myself at the gate and use the built in Working Title features. ATC doesn’t understand what’s going on, but that can be programed by asking ground for a N, S, E, or W departure and picking up directions after takeoff.
Any eta on the resolution for the departures bug?
I can choose a gate only if I remove the SID. Otherwise, I’m forced to start on the runway. SU14 working well
I get the gate to work by setting up the flight plan from the runway then, as the very last thing, zoom into the map and select the gate by clicking on the white dot i want on the map and then choosing “set as departure”. The drop downs don’t change but you can see the lines drawn on the world map.
When i go to the flight, the flight plan etc is correctly loaded and ATC recognises the flights plan too.

If you change the starting point by clicking on a gate on the map itself and selecting “set as departure” it does not change the flight plan, but does spawn you at the selected gate. But this needs to be the final step before clicking fly otherwise it will revert to the runway if you make any other changes.
Yes having this bug too, I still can’t work out the logic exactly, as it seems to change depending on several factors. Clearly resources now being diverted to FS2024, nearly 1 year after this major regression the bug is still here, frustrating and wasting hours of peoples lives.
Didn’t think after 3 years world-map would have got worse, but it has!
I have the bug as well, still after SU14. If I create a flight plan within the sim or import one from SimBrief, if the departure is not set to direct the spawn location is always reset to the active runway, selecting a gate or parking location is not possible.
I am having the same issue with the latest update. I imported the flight plan from SimBrief and now cannot select a gate for loading of the aircraft.
Issue still present in SU15, as per above workaround is
use the World map to select gate AS THE LAST ACTION before clicking Fly. The dropdown won’t update but you will spawn at the gate
Seems odd that a critical regression bug affecting every IFR flight hasn’t been been acknowledged for 18 months, I suppose the devs and testers don’t use airliners or SIDs.

Does your SID disappear from the plan on the World Map after you select a gate? In my case this happens always
