World Map Scale shows Incorrect Values and is too Small to be Useful

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
The length of the Scale on the world map is so small to be effectively unusable as a method of determining distances on the World Map. The ability to estimate / measure distances on the map in order to locate departure or destination locations for bush flights that do not start & end at airports/helipads/heliports is not possible.
In addition, the values shown below the scale appear to be incorrect.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Every Time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start the game, click on free flight to get to the world map.

  2. See Pic 1. First, notice the minute length of the scale in relation to the size of the display (screen area).

  3. Notice that the scale measures108.23 NM for a world view that spans approximately 1/3 of the globe!
The scale is not an effective way to measure distances than span this continental view of the world.

  4. In Pic #3, let’s try to estimate the distance between Seattle & Spokane using the scale. It shows a distance of 6.8 NM. How many 6.8 NMs are needed to span the width of Washington State on the screen - can you guess? According to this website, the straight line distance between the two cities is 228.42 miles (198.49 NM), so the answer is 29.19. Did you guess correctly? :slightly_smiling_face:

  5. On my screen, the scale measures 0.5" (i.e. as measured by a ruler held against the screen of my 55" TV) , so 198.49 NM should equal 29.19 x 0.5" = 14.6" between the two cities. The actual distance measured by the ruler was 18", so the scale appears to be “off” by about 23%.

Expected behavior:

  • A graduated scale that is proportional to the screen width - perhaps 50 - 70%, that makes measurements possible.
  • A scale that accurately displays the correct distance between scale markings.
