World Photographer: Tricky Shots and Bugs

For most world photographer shots it’s pretty straightforward to figure out what’s required. But some are a head-scratcher.

I thought a thread to share difficult to get shots (some of which might be bugs) could be helpful.

Here’s one for starters: Ekofisk Oli Rig (North Sea).

I can take the shot at night and have my avatar out of the helicopter.
But taking the shot with a helicopter landed on a helipad, that’s stumping me. :yum:

Did you manage to get 3 stars in angkor wat and chichen itza?

The Pena Palace (Portugal) was a tricky one. It took a full zoom out to get close enough to the gate to just glimpse the horizon through it while still capturing the entire Palace.

It’s a great topic. I support it!
You often have to search the Internet, but there is very little information.

I have big problems finding animals. I lost 6 hours yesterday and found only giraffes, buffaloes and zebras. THAT’S IT! No one else

The first one in the grand canyon, defaults to a Cub but I can’t find anywhere to land on the South Rim like it suggests. Is everybody just supposed to know they’ll need to switch to a helicopter or is there another way?

Could get the sun over the shoulder of the Sphinx but tried a bunch of different dates around Sept. 22 and March 20 but couldn’t get the equinox sunset to check.

@SCLINC

Got it.

The sun is kind of in the Sphinx’s neck.
It didn’t recognise the Equinox sunset the first time, then it did.
Got back to the helicopter to check the time:
17:28/15:28 UTC Sept 22.
(so the photo was c. 17.26/15.26 UTC)

By the way. Chicken Itza. Infuriating.
Triggers at 12.43 local time, not at 16.43 when the sun makes a snake shape on the stairs. :grimacing:

And one for the diary - March 20th 2025. Before 7.00am local time.
Angkor Wat. It requires LIVE TIME AND WEATHER.

The “live time and weather” condition for Angkor Wat can’t be intendent by Asobo - they should change it.
