World update 3: UK

Visitors? What are they. Marmite every time

Unserviceable Kingdom

Not to alarm anybody, but Steam just updated my MSFS launcher. However the game has NOT updated anything yet. Just the launcher updated via Steam.

That said, Steam updaing the launcher has only happened just before a big update in the past so…

That happened to me this morning… so has been doing it for at least 10 hours

so where’s it at

Right though?

Next time someone comes round to my house it’ll be like the aliens have landed. I’ll be out there with a camera doing hand signals to see if they understand me and stuff.

By the way, just wondering, why are those world updates so large, dozen or more GBytes, when most of the data is streamed?

I can confirm clear skies and sun in Edinburgh (I’m looking out of the window)

Anywhere in the world the update is out already?

Custom airports and landmarks are stored locally. Photogrammetry and satellite imagery are streamed.

Patches update larger files as well, so those need to be entirely re-downloaded.

You mean Steam updaing the launcher? Fair enough then, but as I said, I’ve only ever noticed Steam updating the launcher on new big udpate days, so it would at least be indicative that an update is indeed coming today.

The delay was not the fiasco.
How it was communicated to the paying customers was the fiasco.

Don’t know if aliens will like any of these, but they are hard to beat. Sort of a UK thing, so defo on topic.

Ok, thanks for the info

For sure!
I hope the Scenery spikes are gone with this update.

The scenery add ons aren’t streamed though. They sit on your hard drive. The data the sim streams is just basically the photographic textures from bing maps. Its not really a whole lot.

If you’ve ever played the sim with data streaming turned off you get a sense of what is and what isn’t streamed.

the marmite crisps are amazing

You’re not paying for the world updates though. They’re free. Even with the communication being suboptimal, there’s not much to complain about. Can handle the terrain spikes for a couple more days.

And the photogrammetry is also streamed, but the hand made POI are all downloaded straight to hard disk storage.
