World update 3: UK

Ha … Well they say it’s a small world don’t they?

A few years ago I used to work in Shipley, maybe a mile or so from the centre. That’s not where I live but I did travel there on a daily basis :slightly_smiling_face:

I was born in Doncaster, West Riding (at the time), brought up in Todmorden (on the West Riding/East Lancashire border) and now live in Elland, Calderdale, West Yorkshire. I have a strong Yorkshire accent and I’m not ashamed of it. My only wish for this update is the Humber Bridge, all my other other local landmarks have been created by some excellent modders, two on request. If there’s some important feature missing from your region, don’t despair. The USA World Update was just the first of several updates for the USA, and the UK World Update will no doubt be the same.

My dad was born in Doncaster and in his early years watched Rovers play nearly every Saturday.

As for your strong Yorkshire accent absolutely nothing to be ashamed of there at all. Why should you be? We’re a tough breed not massively different from the Scots, another ‘breed’ I am full of respect for :slightly_smiling_face:

Got the excellent Orbx Dundee airport but the coast along the Tay river is disappointing as the water spikes up the river bank in a few places. Hoping the higher resolution elevation sorts this out.

The other side of my street is London photogrammetry in Google… (not in real life that would be silly!) - not worried its crap on the edges anyway - the photogrammetry I mean!

The Tay rail bridge isn’t there, which seems a bit scandalous. Has someone done Edinburgh airport yet?

I spoke to Gaya who developed Edinburgh airport for Orbx for the other sims. They couldn’t say too much but told me the following which makes me very hopeful…

“ EGPH is an Orbx product developed by Gaya.
I can not go into commercial discussion but I assume EGPH will come to MSFS.”

Have Asobo themselves announced anything about new airports for this UK update? Maybe they’ll do Edinburgh themselves? It would be nice seeing as we’re not getting any photogrammetry cities North of the border.

This is why I was wondered about the timing of the Orbx Partner video being scheduled with the UK release. Gaya who did Edinburgh for Orbx were also responsible for some of the Asobo airports so things are starting to align if you look enough for the links. I haven’t seen Edinburgh mentioned as part of the UK update but there is still a chance given these links and the fact they have included the Forth bridges. Edinburgh airport and your Edinburgh conversion would do for me.

The airports have been stated. There are five of them and Edinburgh isn’t one.

They are talking about several more being worked on but that’ll mean nothing more than tweaking functionality like parking spaces and approaches.

The US update had something like 48 airports worked on beyond the hand crafted ones. They did nothing to the terrain or features but I assume they worked better afterwards as actual airports.

Who knows…they never put out a list of the “other airport fixes” in any of the updates, so nothing to test unless one just stumbles upon a noticeable improvement. The picture shows KPHL, so I assume that was one of them but flying there after the update, there was no visible visual nicety and there were still incorrect taxiways versus the chart, so I think they only fix nav data or something on those (unless someone has better info)??

Aside: There is a list of airports that were ‘improved’ in the USA Update here.

I would hope such a list is also released for the UK update.

However, this thread is not really about the USA update…so back on track.

Yes! I especially miss the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye, and Neist Point could use some love too.

Thanks! Never saw those before…I’ll have to look furhter in the future. Also, I agree…hope to see the same with WU:3+.

I’d love to learn how to use Blender to make models of these sorts of landscape objects. I had this idea it would be really cool to make a highly detailed replica of St Kilda you could take a trip out to and fly around. Things like that for me are far more interesting than having photogrammatry of Birmingham. No offence to any Brummies on this board.
