The Navblue data = October small update …
This planned sequence of rolling updates to the world scenery is good for all users. I’m happy with the fact that they’re doing the US next (while I’m in the UK), as I want to fly the world, not my own backyard. There are still many places in the US I want to visit, but perhaps now I will put that off till the update is out.
However, is this method of updating good for developers?
I don’t know how many people are currently doing updates (both payware and freeware) which may be rendered obsolete in just a few weeks time. They will now probably have to shelve the work, wait for the update, and then see if their contribution is necessary. Users will certainly be put off buying US addons in the near future (as well as other areas like Europe), till they see what Asobo have done.
It looks like developers will end up chasing Asobo’s tail - once a new area is released, they will look to see what Asobo has missed/got wrong.
So hopefully it won’t reduce the contibutions from independent developers, but it will certainly change the way they plan their projects.
Wherever they update, there will be people who say “Why not (some other country) first?”. I think a lot of the timing will depend on availability of improved terrain data.
So, while I’m not overly bothered for a US update, I’m happy that another region gets a quality bump.
From the vendor perspective it probably makes a lot of sense. The US is a big market for a flight sim and it seems to me that a lot of the US ‘pilots’ tend to be more focussed on US based flights.
So 2020, sees the US user base happy and 2021 can see the rest of the world getting some attention.
I would rather them have nothing to do with FlyByWire, as there are others potentially better placed to do definitive A320 representation with official Airbus licencing etc.
I might have compleltely misheard but aren’t they even seeking to get officially approved by Airbus? If yes I find this extremely exciting.
You are right, but what I get from it is that it’s more likely paperwork.
I mean, Asobo got their A320 signed, obviously.
If your PC is a potato there is very little that can be done by Asobo. Melted lego blocks issue comes from drawing distance being low or your internet speed not being able to load it before you get there.
What happens if you lower the resolution and set graphics to high?
Unless I misunderstood something, it will take roughly two weeks of testing after the next AIRAC cycle 11 (Oct 8) and drop in the November sim update.
It’s entirely likely the scenery team has nothing to do with aircraft development and these are parallel tasks. It’s a completely different skill set.
I really am hoping they can touch up Charlotte and Dallas a bit. There seems to be a Mavericks fan in Asobo because they have hand modeled the American Airlines center.
I’m really not bashing MSFS, I think it’ll be the #1 sim in future, but some things need to be mentioned.
Jörg Neumann said they were going for the wide approach instead of digging in deep, to keep the market interesting for third party devs. But you need to go a little deeper if your SDK is so early in development that quality content is only to be expected far in 2021. Besides, he also said they want it to be as realistic as possible…
They really need to revise the default aircraft, systems, control sensitivity (-> should be flyable on a linear curve - problem with dynamic pressure?), turboprop logic… those are all things you’d expect to be done to a decent level in a sim.
Hoping for some more handicrafted USA airports-the ones in the Japan world update are stunning!
Yes, but that’s usually payware in other sims. We can’t expect payware quality about 30 Planes for €120. I prefer the TBM930. I can’t distinguish quality and flight behaviour between the FS2020 TBM930 and the Hotstart TBM900 which I had in X-Plane. Except the folding tables in the back.
SPb to Moscow isn’t bad - but up north is pretty rough
GA airports need some cleanup for sure…
Meh, get over yourself. No matter where they chose people are going to be upset because it’s not the place THEY care about the most. Largest player base is likely in the US so it makes economic sense for them to get/keep it up to snuff.
I wouldn’t have been upset had they picked anything other than USA. If you just look at the list of photogrammetric cities in the sim currently, the US list is several times as long as any other country and significantly longer than the rest of the world put together. I wasn’t complaining at all when they did Japan even though I’m not Japanese, I think Japan needed it badly.
I agree! But when the SDK to deliver such payware is on such an early stage of development that we can expect the first decent addons second half of 2021, then they should at least make some of those default planes more detailed.
Specific flight models certainly need a revision. There’s a power / drag problem with most GA aircraft. The turboprop logic is faulty. And let’s not talk about the A320. ![]()
I am really putting my hopes in the sim update.
Ok, for you it’s plane A, B, C for me D,E,F and for another guy G,H,I. As I said, don’t expect payware quality for 30 planes. A320 → A32N. Top!
Question: Are you a GA Pilot and fly a Turboprop?
