World Update United Kingdom

And I wish the overcast was grey, not sandstorm orangy/yellow!

Agreed. I had mentioned that no matter how thick the overcast layer, the sun always shines through it at sunset and sunrise.

When it’s overcast, sunsets should usually be a dark and bleak grey that just gets dimmer and dimmer.

No red double decker around here. It’s about 40 years since I last saw one.

Never had red buses in the Bristol area either. When it was Bristol Omnibus running the show they were green but they went years ago.

Red telephone boxes, long gone in almost every part of the UK now.

Of course, I know, it was outta nostalgy. You can’t tell me you don’t want to see a single of em.

@Tjoeker

I kinda hope they add the French cliffs in northern France too while they’re at it

Nah nah nah, French cliffs, Tanzanian cliffs the same thing…but the Cliffs of Dover… :slightly_frowning_face:

** HAHAHA JOOOKIING MATE :joy:

No I dont want to see them. I want my sim to reflect the way the world looks now with live flights using the correct aircraft and the correct liveries in modern looking airports. I am not the slightest bit interested in re-creating the UK as it was 30 plus years ago and that includes old fashioned telephone boxes and red buses.

What about all those yellow fire hydrant marker posts?

Seriously.
Rivers and canals TO SCALE.

By far the most important is to get rid of those white 4 or 5 storey buildings that litter the country side when they are actually just houses or farm buildings.

Wishlist based on what’s near to me but missing in the sim.

Farm buildings, not office buildings
Piers (Worthing, Bognor, Southsea, Bournemouth)
Chalk Cliffs (Dover, Beachy Head, Isle of Wight)
Jurassic Coastline
Lighthouses (Needles, Beachy Head, Lydd)
Castles (Dover, Amberley, Arundel)
Streams that are not rivers
Coastal Forts (Shoreham, Littlehampton, Solent)
All these would make an already enjoyable VFR experience absolutely epic.

Is there a definitive list yet ? as to what we are getting.

In Brazil is really common to see cows close to the highway, in farms, when traveling to small cities. And this is the kind of thing that I miss in this sim: farm animals.
In UK and any other region we should see the same

I really hope that the many micro-climates and variety of environments of the UK are considered. Summer in the South can mean green trees in a sea of beige, dry fields. 200 miles north, Cumbria is usually very green all year round. The West Coast has fewer trees, none when you get up past Mallaig. London Brick reigns supreme in the South East, Cotswold stone further West, Grey granite in Scotland and the NE. Wire or even metal fences enclose fields near cities, wooden fences in ā€œthe sticksā€, stone walls out West and up North. So much to model and so many UK simmers who will no doubt have lively debate about the update.

The UK is a pretty unusual country and is an amazing microcosm of cultures, climates, natural and geological environments and zones. I’m glad it’s not me making it.

I cannot see the update addressing any of the issues you mention. Whilst its perfectly true that the choice of building material for homes is very much based on local stone for instance, we are not going to see that sort of attention to detail in FS.

I have just flown over my local area and our community centre and library has the correct shape and car park with the road leading up to it but instead of a single storey building there are now four storeys. My own house which is opposite, now appears to be a bungalow instead of two storeys.
I have taken screenshots and I am going to do more of about 50 miles around so that I can see the difference when the update arrives.

If the World Update United Kingdom does not address the basics of scenery - sensible trees, cliff edges, beaches, roads that look like roads and the disaster that is tall square buildings in/on our beautiful countryside.
Flying above 5000’ looks great - flying GA below (which is my thing) 5000’ is annoyingly poor.
Four storey caravans is not what we want.
Remember - the tall building issue has been present from day one, no matter what some of the so called experts reckon.
All of that said MSFS 2020 is wonderful in so many ways.
Come on ā€˜Make my Day’

The buildings, in general, are still generic. They should have a system like google maps, to add the real buildings…

They do have a system like Google Maps, Photogrammetry, but its coming from Bing as a source and Bing maps is not yet as far forward with 3D modelling as Google is.

Cut grass is generally missing from FS 2020. The area around the houses in my neighbourhood looks like scrubland instead of neatly mown lawns. Everything looks grubby and post apocalypse instead of the neat suburban area with nice houses that it really is. I don’t think the UK landscape will look better.

Right up in the north, there are devils in skirts.

One of the landscape spoilers for me is where a small stream runs alongside a road.
The stream is oversized and appears to be flooding the road.

I’m getting used to the farmyard office blocks. My advantage is I have an imagination remaining from 1980s flight simulators.
