World updates with the upcoming title

When the new sim comes, what will happen to the world updates?

  • Will MSFS2020 keep getting WU’s until the whole world is done? Or MS will cut the development in somewhere?
  • Will MSFS2024 be released with all WU’s already released for MSFS2020 or will it start over?

Everything on the road map for MSFS 2020 should (no reason not to) continue until the last line in the list.

I think MSFS 2024 will have an entirely new mesh/world coded from scratch. Plenty of new stuff seen in the trailer that suggests so.

My completely uneducated assumption at the moment is that World Updates will continue to be produced and they will apply to both sims.

And the new sim will 100% use existing world updates. There’s no way they’d start over after all the work they’ve done to get here. MSFS2024, in my opinion, is just a continuation of what they’ve already built, but with a better path forward (and hopefully that 10 year support window starts over for the '24 game).

for my point of view, we will have only updates (WU, SU etc) until the release of MSFS24

Would be nice, but highly doubtful IMO. I’d love to be proven wrong but I’d be surprised if the fidelity shown in the promo wasn’t cherry picked and/or higher detailed areas that were created specifically for certain missions.

Well i’m sure they cranked to max resolution like they do with all their trailers . But i still think/hope the new sim will have something like Earth 2.0 with whole lots of seamless new tech related to photogrammetry/mesh etc.

To be honest, the lawyer in me read it that way too.

“We will continue to deliver our Roadmap (…) and continue to support MS20 post the launch.”

To me, that wording is different from ‘parallel to supporting’ MS24. It’s only a guarantee to support post launch. Like how long? 1 day post launch? 1 month? 1 year? 1 minute? …Maybe it’s just occupational hazard… but yeah, I would have advised them differently on the phrasing if they meant something reassuringly different. :man_shrugging:

Yeah that’s very unconvincing
Also, many needed features and world updates haven’t been revealed. So if a wu is not in the roadmap then it will not be made?

Also, they don’t define ‘support’.

Does support mean they’re going to continue to update it at all, or is it merely keeping the servers operational?

WU and SU is one thing, how about all those “assets” like landmarks, VFR objects that has populated MSFS2020’s world?

Will it feature the same handcrafted airports or they just re-start the whole thing? Back then, MSFS game studios don’t have as much “handcrafted” airports back in FS2002-FSX era, even then, the quality is far from what they come up with today. (e.g. if you remembered KSEA / Seattle-Tacoma Intl Airport in FSX - that’s handcrafted).

I asked this the other day, and the file size question came up, if all WU were included in base file it would be one huge download file. I guess that all the same WU will be available to download again in the marketplace, thats my guess anyway.

They certainly are not going to use two bing databases. Take it from me the core sims will be the same but some features won’t show up in FS2020. And while I’m sure the WU’s will continue I expect 2024 bespoke scenery not to and marketplace availability to differ depending on how MS decides to market stuff. I’d say Premium Deluxe is a good example of how the intended separation will work but naturally user interfaces will be different.
