Come see how American pilot Nathan Gordon earned his Medal of Honour, & each of his 8 crew the Silver Star, in WW2 New Guinea, (Kavieng Harbour) by landing his Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina amphibious aircraft 4 times in a row, under fire, & in rough seas, to save 15 downed airmen. The story is partly told in his own words, in quotes, from a 2003 interview. Hope you enjoy. Cheers.
Very well done video and a great true life story! Thank you for putting it together!
My dad was an aviation radio man 1st class in WWII. He flew on PBMs and PBYs. He and the other crew members of a PBY were on a reconnaissance mission off Okinawa when they found themselves surrounded by Japanese Zeroes. They were shot down and climbed into an inflatable rubber raft, where they remained in the high swells of the ocean for 22 hours or so, before they were found and picked up.
So your video makes me reflect on what it must have been like in a PBY in WWII! Thank you!
By the way, is that the freeware PBY done by @LagaffeVFR5476?
Thanks so much for your comment. Your Dad was so lucky! Yes, that’s the PBY which I got freeware from the French VFR site. Cheers.
Thanks for you video ![]()
