I like to fly shiny new planes- why do 3rd party insist on producing worn and dirty looking planes? I’m thinking of the carenado seminole pa-44 with its lousy seats and carpet and the new yet to be released just flight piper has controls with paint missing. A shiny option would be nice.
Had the same problem and did something about it:
Mooney
Seminole
Also in the original colours but with some signs of usage
Probably because that is what real planes look like and simming by definition means replication of the real aircraft.
Obviously many of these aircraft haven’t been manufactured for years so if you want a realistic interior then you get the wear and tear the aircraft had.
Some companies make custom textures so you can have a clean version but they almost never look as realistic (often they are pretty poor, it takes real art skills and lots of time to do it well) as textures produced from a real aircraft.
My real world experience never got beyond the joys of club airplanes … they were all like this!
Back in 2000, I did get invited to look round the Raytheon aircraft display at Farnborough (I think the sales guy was bored … there was no one else there at the time). I clearly remember the smell of the brand new Hawker jet - all electronics and fine leather. Very alluring!
New plane smell is like new car smell, but a thousand times better!
Agreed. And especially with the P.149 the worn look totally fits. It’s from the late 50s, was a military plane and very spartan. The Seminole, Mooney and Arrow are positively luxurious in comparison.
Nevertheless, like with cars, the condition of the plane’s interior is also a matter of attitude (and cash flow). Is it privately owned or a club plane? Is the plane just a tool to do a job, or is it a hobby, a prized possession or even a kind of companion? Some owners make the effort to keep the interior of the plane in good shape and refurbish the seats, yoke or other interior parts if they get worn out too much.
I have to admit the screenshots of the Just Flight Arrow III look awesome and very realistic. You could almost say it’s filthy. Even more so than the Carenado ones. Nevertheless I prefer the look of the interior of the Turbo Arrow. Also looks old, but far less neglected. And that’s the difference for me: does it simpy look old or does it look neglected.
For the current generation, mainly because they ported the assets across, and don’t want to bother redoing the textures. The exact same scuff marks can be seen as those shown in the version for the other simulator.
If they make additional liveries available for the outside, it would be nice if they went the extra mile and produced a factory fresh internal design as well for those that would like it.
I personally like worn out aircraft, but I get where you come from. Because the airplanes that have come out from 3rd party developers so far are older models (at least 25 years old for the most part), they are simulated in a state that one would generally find them in, in 2021, as long as the interior has not been refubrished. JustFlight’s Arrow III is from 1970s, so it looks like a used and flown for thousands hours plane. That is cool IMHO.
More modern models with G1000 are less worn out (I think Carenado’s C182 looks only slightly used).
The best would be if developers included both brand new and worn out versions of the interior. It wouold be great to also experience an older plane looking like it just came out of factory or has had the interior completely redone (which is not that incommon in real life).
I agree with you there.
I see noone else mentioned it… JustFlight is including a like “new” cockpit version you can choose.
Interesting, the biggest criticism of addon aircraft like the Jabiru seems to have been they look like showroom floor new planes not the typical one you might hire at the local airfield. Or even a private one after a year of use.
It also is worth remembering that the Carenado Arrow is a fairly new aircraft produced in the late 90’s but Just Flight seem to be looking at 1970’s variants, most of which have had 20 or 30 years as renters and training aircraft.
I would enjoy an aircraft with a variety.
One livery and cockpit or each type. Glass or steam.
add a bit more variety to the aircraft.
And thank you for doing these, the Piper interior in particular, has made the whole experience of it new again!
