WU 12 - Fps-issues

Hi,

Doing most of my simming in NZ and having looked forward to WU12 like crazy, I’m sad to see significat fps-issues and stutters. For example, sitting on the ground in Queenstown and panning left/right I get big drops. I realize that there is a lot more detail and photogrammetry now but I get much better performance in for example Manhattan.

Anyone else seeing this?

Have you tried clearing your Nvidia shader cache and rolling cache if you have it enabled?

Strange, I’m finding fps over photogrammetry cities to be excellent in my G2

I had the same last night. Started fine from Tauranga, but after about 20 minutes or so it was freezing every few minutes and nothing I could do fixed it.

Tonight I deleted the rolling cache, recreated it, and cleared the shader cache, restarted and all is great again.

The area around the handcrafted Queenstown airport gives me the same issues as you describe (3080Ti, G2) I think it is caused by the detail of the handcrafted airoprt more so than the photogrammetry.

Hi again,

I spend way too much time is this forum but still, actually hadn’t heard of the shader cache before and resetting it (and the Win11 DX-cache) actually seems to have solved it! Haven’t flown much yet and the performace is still worse that pre-WU but reasonable given the new photogrammetry. Thanks for the suggestion!

Don’t use the rolling cache anymore, hadn’t had problems but finally found that deleting it solved stuttering after last SU so I’ve had it off for awhile. Any input on that, is it worth enabling it again and what would be the recommended size?

Thanks

The rolling cache stores information locally on your pc rather than having to connect to the internet. The first time you fly in an area, it stores a copy in the cache locally so that it doesn’t have to keep streaming from the internet. It doesn’t matter how fast or reliable your internet connection is, pulling data from local storage will always be faster. The trick is to remember that it’s there and that with some updates you need to delete it and recreate it.

I’d suggest switching it back on and trying it for a few days to see how it works on your system. I have mine located in E:\MSFSCACHE\ rather than the long default path.

Sad to say that the problem is not solved, seems to be intermittent. Seeing it also outside of NZ so attributing it to WU12 may be incorrect. One flight can work perfectly and another have fps dropping 80% and even getting audio-stutters.

WU12 is one of two things that have changed on my PC this week, the other being a cumulatative Win11 update on Tuesday, KB5022905. Will need to continue the troubleshooting more broadly but thanks for all help so far.

Could it be anything to do with an increased server load/increased number of simers trying out the new update?

I am getting good fps but for me it doesn’t seem to be as smooth as before the update despite spending around 1/2 hour optimising my PC system as I frequently do.

This is a fairly common occurence though with updates on my system and usually, it gets back to normal after a few days.

Do you run FSUIPC ?

Hi,

I just came to the same conclusion actually, this must be a server-side/capacity issue. Almost all flights the past two hours have been nearly perfect, just the occasional 50% fps-dip but that happens.

Having only tried Queenstown and the surrounding areas yet, I have to say WU12 is such a huge improvement. Photogrammetry is one thing but what really stands out to me is the improved detail and variation in hill-textures. Did a few short flights and almost had to remind myself I was simming, felt like I was flying through a LOTR-movie

Just had about 15 minutes flying about in NZ (just fun stuff, not a ‘serious’ flight by any stretch) and it ‘seems’ today a lot better.

Early days I know but it’s great fun at the moment with no lagging etc like yesterday :slightly_smiling_face:
