I use an X-Box controller solely to control the drone (showcase) camera. When starting MS2020, the controller will often not initially appear as a controller device. It will usually show up later, but not always.
And, when flying, the controller will sometimes just disconnect itself from USB access, then show up again after some period of time.
This is very annoying and it usually happens an an inopportune time for trying to record external shots of a flight.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated!!

Assuming it’s a wired controller is it possible that the USB cable or the connections inside from the cable are worn?
I had a similar issue but in my case it was clear to me that it was caused by a worn strain relief and the cable going into the controller housing was not making good contact inside the controller.
I was able to open up the controller and improve the connection for awhile but eventually it simply was way too spotty to continue using. I replaced it with a $20 Logitech controller and all is well again.
Check your cable. My PS5 controller was doing it for a while. I was close to buying another but tried the cable first. Problem solved.
