Xbox Elite Controller - Drift

Hi everyone! First post over here, hopefully of many. Thanks to the developers for such an amazing game!

I am experiencing issues with my Elite Controller in Windows 10 with flight simulator. These are issues I never had before.

Basically, the plane is not flying balanced as it tends to drift right and upwards (not heavily but definitely enough to have an influence in the experience). Indeed, when navigating into controls/flight control surfaces/primary control surfaces/ailerons axis, the bar is not effectively at 50% but slightly to the right.

A couple of important points: this drifting effect does not happen in other games (including shooters which require accuracy and I would notice) nor in the accessories Xbox app, which shows both sticks directly at the Center of the diagram and no drifting can be perceived.

Anyone knows a way to calibrate the controller in-game?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Yes , I have this issue as well with the xbox one controller, left stick that I use for zoom, drifts, - have a brand new controller, - Went to the store , got a replacement, - and still I have the same drift issue, so I don’t think the controller is bad.

You do realise you’re flying an aircraft and it isn’t on rails? Wind and engine torque etc, play a role on how your aircraft moves in flight.

Same here, although im not using an Elite controller, I am using an Xbox One controller nonetheless. At least until I can find a joystick/throttle or yoke combo that suits my needs.

It seems to be an issue with the analog module itself. I identified this not just in FS2020 but in a lot of other games. More recently, in Forza 7 as its the primary game i play on PC using a controller. Its impossible to drive straight, on a track that has a straight-away such as the Circuit de la Sarthe or on the Nurburgring

To be honest, this is a common thing to happen with analog sticks as overtime they lose their deadzone and sensitivity and no amount of calibration will help because increasing the deadzone itself I’ve found only exacerbates the drift.

Previously I used to simply replace my controllers because, at the time, PS2 and PS3 controllers were typically $20-30 bucks a piece or less, so they’re cheap enough that replacing them was a non-issue. Plus I didn’t know how to simply replace the analog device with a replacement because i had zero soldering skills at the time - so theres that.

Opening the controller and cleaning it out with generous amounts of high % of isopropyl alcohol and some compressed air MAY correct the issue so you could give that a shot, but it didn’t work for me.

In the past year, I’ve finally gotten into the hobby of modifying and repairing game consoles and controllers so I have decent experience with soldering, so it doesn’t take but buying a lot of analog module kit. They vary in price depending on what else is included but on average you can spend $10 with shipping for a set of 4 to 6 analog modules and repair any controller. A better deal than spending $50+ for a brand new controller.

I’ve plugged in my PS4 controller and I don’t have this drift issue. And I do have another brand new Xbox controller that Amazon sent by mistake when I ordered only 1 Xbox One controller on impulse because it was in a color combo I really liked - so its not like I don’t have backup controllers.

At this point i’m just biding my time using a controller because as I’m not going to be taking my time with FS2020 until I can:

1)Locate a throttle/joystick or yoke setup that I want to settle on, as there’s so many and I’m only halfway through the list of the ones I am leaning towards - reading their reviews and searching for any known complaints or issues to narrow down the best ones.

2)Biding my time until GPU board partners like EVGA and ASUS make their nvidia 3000 series GPU’s available as my 980Ti is showing its age.

I use an xbox one controller. But mine has an issue with HDG and NAV. Once disengaged with autopilot still on to hold altitude, the plane becomes uncontrollable and rolls over

I have that issue too. I wonder if the AP functions being patched have anything to do with it as I recall a few YT channels stating that when enabling AP there were oscillations in maintaining altitude.

I wish I had a flight stick of sorts to see if it was controller related.

I get this now just when ever I enable autopilot. Doesnt matter what I do.

This is so P@ssing me off… I literally cant fly any of the GA planes with autopilot… which is pretty much the majority of the sim.

May as well call this drone simulator

i also have a drift issue ONLY in microsoft flight simulator
but for me it’s on the right stick. So the camera permanantly want to look at my feets x(
hope this will be resolved inthe next update…
