Xbox has a plane...Kodiak!

@SiRRiPPERORiG

I’ve been messing with various things today just seeing what works.

This is strange and definitely circumstantial but I’ve had three straight loads without CTD by doing the following.

1.) before launching the Sim, going to Xbox settings and changing my resolution to 720p (normally running 1440p).
2.) launch the sim, flight plan page, load to runway.
3.) go back to Xbox setting and change it back to 1440p

All is well….

Maybe others experiencing CTDs could try this to see if there’s something to it

Do you notice any change in texture quality in-game when doing this?

@SiRRiPPERORiG

I’m loading onto the runway in 720p and of course there is noticeable difference at that resolution. But then I go back into settings (with sim still running) and switch it back to 1440p. Then I’m live on the runway with normal 1440p resolution and can fly no issue.

oh absolutely, 3rd party sceneries on the box are a cause of many issues, sadly.

There isn’t really a pattern, that’s the problem. I could load up in the Kodiak at a big third party airport (Say, Barajas) and it’s fine. I loaded the Kodiak at a smaller, stock airport and CTD. It makes my brain hurt.

Agree with PluckyUnderdog, with this airplane you can CTD everywhere and that’s what happened to me in two small airstrips in Papua New Guinea and Panama.
When it flies is pure joy…when…

I did further testing and things got pretty well, don’t know if it’s luck or the fact that i have zero addon scenery or else

as for the topo map a quick restart (from the session to main menu > restart flight) always got me the topo map

i got way less CTD compared to yesterday but the only thing i did yesterday was a reinstall ofthe kodiak

I’ll keep up testing liveries to see if there’s a pattern there, after all it’s a good work since the plane is wonderful (also the aircon that measure the temperature drop when opening doors is such a beauty)

Had some time this afternoon to do some testing. I had a few CTDs pop up trying to load IFR flights on some of the cargo liveries. Usually I use some peripheral to launch the game and load a flight (TB Velocity, mouse, etc). However I found when I used the xbox controller to launch the game, not a single CTD since in my case at least. Performance has been excellent once loaded.

Nevermind on that, it was just flickering from pushing 120hz.

I bought it but have been remodeling a bath today and haven’t gotten to play! I did load it up once and just looked around for a bit. Is there a float version of this hiding anywhere? I thought I had seen it on floats.

No floats in this update. But it’s coming.

I will test some different scenarios as well. I bought it today and had a CTD my first time with it,I was using the Factory A1 cargo interior. Started from a parking spot at a smaller non 3rd party airport.

Will test with the same airport but different liveries. I’m on Xbox X with Hotas one and wireless mouse.

Edit: CTD happened right when the avionics master switch was flipped on.

2nd attempt - Used the Factory A2 tundra interior and it worked great without a CTD starting from the same airport and parking spot. I will test other liveries with same setup.
3rd attempt - Same airport, same parking - CTD when I hit the fly button. Factory A3 mixed interior.
4th attempt - same airport, same parking - Worked without issue. Factory A4 summit interior

100 Series II B7 cargo pod. Been flying all afternoon with no problems.

Yesterday had quite a few CTD when landing, and when hitting the fly button. Especially when landing at a add-on airport. But really it’s a ■■■■ shoot for me with any plane landing or hanging around at a add-on airport. I def was not having luck with the Kodiak. (Only tried the Hawaii add on airports)

The things I did different today was: turned off “multiplayer “ under “Gen options: Data”. Also uninstalled the Garmin G1000 NXi. I am running live weather and live time.
I absolutely love this plane. Hope this helps the dev in some way.

I need to fly later today to an add-on to see if I have any problems with those items turned off and uninstalled. I just wanted to enjoy flying today, so I just stayed away from my add-on airports.

I’m on Xbox X with Hotas one and wired mouse/keyboard.

From my testing on an Series X yesterday and a Series S today, I’m pretty sure the issue most are having on the XBox is an interaction between the Kodiak and the NXi. I reported my updated experiences in the other thread. For some reason, in both cases the CTD problem did not start until after I quite MSFS then ran it again. No clue why that’d be a factor or why the NXi behaves well with other aircraft.

Got back on later tonight and turned multiplayer “ under “Gen options: Data” back on. Flew for about 3 hrs to different stock airports. Different routes. No problems. So yeah, seems like a Garmin NXi issue. I did run into a problem landing at a add-on airport after the 3 hours of flying. Landed fine at a Hawaii airport, but stuck around too long I guess. (Really only long enough to taxi to the gate) and then the sim did a CTD. But as I mentioned before, it’s a ■■■■ shoot landing at these 3rd party airports. I’m not buying any more airports till MS gets that worked out. I def recommend the Kodiak. Fun!

Well I finally got around to flying it tonight(series X). Usually I’ll get familiar with a plane at Bahamas reserve as it’s flat and easy to just practice touch and goes and other basics and the graphics load of scenery is minimal. Flew around there for about an hour, the plane is cake to fly, because it feels like you’re actually flying what you’re flying. No issues on multiple T&G and full stop and taxi practice, also cake to taxi around. Even backed out under reverse thrust. Taxied in and refueled and headed randomly VFR for Miami at 10,000’ goofed around with the AP and other systems(love the sun visors!). ZERO issues, saw ships in the water(global shipping add), other planes in the sky for a change(about a dozen on approach below me when hugging the coast) and decided to continue on to Key West, for which I have scenery and the boats upgrade and the birds, greased the landing, no issues. About 3 hours total continuous. Played around with the doors and other stuff on the ground. No CTD, no glitches, nothing. Was an absolute blast to fly. Flew one of the versions red livery with the executive interior, didn’t tinker with cargo or CG, wasn’t expecting to be flying so long.j Only issue I had was the landing light was not visible. I do have the NXi installed, but just flew it as it was presented to me on the runway on start.

Using the TB V1 with the HOTAS as a rudder pedal server. Only thing I did was pull that bus for the copilot display screen.

Was using live traffic, weather preset, no rolling cache, no VRR and 4K HDR @60HZ.

Really just an incredible aircraft. Immediately makes me want to learn more about it.

I’d really suggest to download the plane manual since it’s very well made and has useful info such as the pull to the left at the take off and the take off trim setup

“The Kodiak has a very strong pull to the left at maximum power. When taking off, we recommend using 30-50% right trim. Reduce for a right crosswind, increase for a left crosswind”

“Take-off trim range in the Kodiak is 0 to 75% nose-down trim”

Agreed, I’ve read it quite a few times. The power tables are necessary too, and are easy to read, nicely set out. It’s a very functional, consise manual.

I’d recommend ‘missionary Bush pilot’ on YouTube, for getting to know a little more about the aircraft. Flies the Kodiak in Papua New Guinea. It’s epic stuff.

Here is a setup that never worked for me:

  • tundra version with cargo pod
  • livery factory a4 summit
  • weather preset not live
  • airport AYWU
  • no FP

I might add in summit I don’t see passenger not cargo in the shelf

Maybe it helps.

also note: in hangar all liverys prior to loading have a 15sec delay and Frozen Screen . Same freeze when you hit fly on the map.
