Xbox: I'm sure you'all have experienced flashing textures - The solution?

Please have a look. What are these flashing and flickering textures?

The game is generally very poor looking and does not look like a Series X game.

Take a look here. If any of these reports match your issue, be sure to vote.

Thanks but this is an issue specific to MSFS '24 as I have read reports on Reddit and elsewhere. I don’t know if it’s happening on PC but the link you provided has issues reported for MSFS '20 or issues other than the one I’m facing.

I have added the ms2024 tag to your post for greater specificity.

Ah, thank you so much, that’s kind of you.

I hope to see this addressed soon.

I did have some slight flickering of clouds in FS24 (but in Steam). Seems to have stopped now. No idea what was causing it. My drivers were up to date.

I dunno man, could be the servers not loading things in properly but it’s very unsettling and almost looks like the console’s hardware is breaking down!

I know that’s not the case and it’s a game/server issue but it compels me to put the game down and move on to something that works and looks presentable. Still don’t understand how a newer game could take so many steps back.

I had A LOT of that flickering when 24 first came out. I don’t really think I noticed it weeks later. I haven’t flown much lately so I’m not sure what it’s like for me now.

Do you have your Xbox set to 4K 120hz vrr if so try 60hz.

It’s set to 60Hz - my TV does not support native 120Hz at 4k. I have VRR enabled though, let me try with VRR off although I’ve never noticed any VRR-based flickering in any Xbox game to date.

Thanks a lot, I will keep that in mind. :slightly_smiling_face:

Any solution to the textures"flashing on and off" apart from restarting the game?

It just occurred to me that this is an issue in the game and not something I can get “user support” for. Can you please escalate it to the development team?

Moderator edit for translation: Hello, if on xbox you have set rolling cache higher than 32gb try to bring it back to 32 . I read that on xbox the rolling cache greater than 32gb can create problems, but I’m not sure, after various tests I also noticed that totally deleting the rolling cache “deletes data”, not the save, makes the first subsequent flights smoother. Surely there is also ul server side that I think are continuously improving

Thanks for your input mate, already two steps ahead of you! I did revert back to a 32GB rolling cache size which seemed to mitigate some of the graphical issues but when you load into some flights where flying over busy cities with lots of photogrammetry (Tokyo, Sydney, London, NYC, etc.), the graphics flash “on and off” and the ground textures arund the plane are extremely blurry and blocky. Only way to resolve this is a restart of the game which resolves the issue most of the time if not all the time.

I can’t be expected to restart the game every time I get glitching and flashing textures, right? Their servers are the main issue it appears.

I also have this problem on XSX after 1 hour of flight and the only way for now is to restart the simulator, I tried to delete or increase the cache but the problem still persists, I hope this will be resolved as quickly as possible and the devs are aware

With me, it’s very random. One flight would be perfectly fine, and the next would have textures flickering on and off around the plane. It tends to happen more in the busy cities with photogrammetry.

I even found a post dating back to 2021 with a user facing the exact same issue in the older product on his Series S and other users too on their Series X:

Changing the cache size or deleting and setting it again has no effect. Their servers start to conk out and can’t seem to load textures properly.

This really needs to be escalated as it makes the game suddenly look like its running on an Xbox 360. Really annoying visual glitch, needs to be patched ASAP.

The flashing textures happen every single session, it’s only a matter of when. I don’t want to restart my game over and over again just to see decent textures.

Somebody please take notice and escalate this to Asobo.

these are aerodynamic lines , can be disabled from weather tab or settings

That’s not a graphical issue. That’s a feature which can be enabled/disabled from the options. It basically shows the aerodynamics around the plane. You’ll see these “lines” very differently for a helicopter, for example.

Just disable it.
