I vowed never to buy a JustSim airport as they never look great and the aftersales service is apparently non-existent — but when this hit the Xbox at only £4.99 (not even in a sale!) I couldn’t resist! But is it worth £4.99?
DETAIL
Being my first and so far only JustSim airport, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It’s not going to win any awards for its textures or overall complexity but there’s certainly enough here to warrant a good look around with the drone. If I had to make a comparison, I’d say it’s very much on a par with UK2000’s quality, from what I’ve seen of their work. The terminal building is done pretty nicely, with convincing texturing. There’s even a fully 3D outdoor landside cafe bar, complete with static people. There are many more static people dotted around, in bus stops, waiting to board aircraft, etc. The landside is done really well, with some custom vegetation and a fully modelled road network that actually looks really good! There are a number of peripheral buildings (reasonably textured), stretching out to the runway ends, and we even get some sort of facility atop the nearby hill. Close to this facility are a family standing by a car, enjoying the views. It’s a nice little touch!
Runway, taxiway and apron textures are very good, showing signs of repair and general weathering. I particularly like the animated apron vehicles, which include custom buses. They can, however, be a little jerky when there’s a lot of detail in the frame. Faithful to the real airport JustSim have included the drainage channels and they’ve not done a bad job with them.
PERFORMANCE
I’ve had a few stutters while taxiing around that perhaps shouldn’t be happening at an airport this size but performance is generally good. Stability is fine although I do recall one crash a while back.
VREDICT
I doubt all JustSim’s work is this well executed but LGRP v3 has some really nice touches I wouldn’t expect to see in an airport of this calibre. The landside looks brilliant, and not just compared to other JustSim sceneries. They could have used a simple 2D texture overlay for the landside cafe but they went and modelled it in full 3D!
I doubt it’s still £4.99 (introductory offer upon release?) but I have to be fair, it’s worth more than that. I think this airport would be fairly priced at £10-£12. It’s not the best airport I’ve seen but it certainly had a few surprises in store for me!
If you can grab it for a tenner or under, I say… go for it.
A final tip: Seafront Simulations’ Global Shipping puts large vessels quite close to the shoreline and for me it adds quite a bit of immersion to the airport. A number of times I’ve flown pretty low over some huge ships and they’ve looked incredible!
