[Xbox Series X/S] Visual Downgrade - LOD Reduction

Thanks. I was just going based upon how much time typically transpires between updates. Haven’t had a chance to read up on everything yet.

So basically no sim for two months what a great anniversary

That’s another thing that I initially thought could be overreacting, but, after realizing that graphics in Flight Simulator are actually more important than the gameplay itself for the casual simmers (the vast majority of the player base), I can totally understand and expect most people doing this.

Since I have an external 1 TB SSD attached to my Xbox Series X, probably I will not do this, but literally Red Dead Redemption 2 took the place in my nights.

Only those REALLY passionate for flight simulation will come back. There’s a huge chance of losing a considerable amount of console players. And money, of course.

'20 was commissioned to be cross-platform from the off. Yes, historically msfs was a PC property, however, as a PC-only proposition it was also dead, and had been dead for a really long time.

did they finally say sth about the airports taxi-/runway- lights not being correctly visable around your aircraft since SU 6 (!!!)

and did they comment on if they will ever fix the insane amount of CTDs (on xbox) ?

Just to be clear as I’ve read multiple misinformation posts in this thread; as per what’s just been said in the Q&A:

The Xbox still has headroom for improving detail and features - it’s not at it’s limit yet. They’re also still optimizing every update, which is also in turn helping the PC platform.

The poor terrain detail bug is caused by the sim thinking that it’s running slower than it actually is ( FPS), which in turn is triggering a system that decreases LOD to protect frame rates. This system is barely ever triggered or used on XBOX, but it’s still there just in case.

I’m incredibly disappointed by the lack of urgency on the part of Asobo. This issue has Xbox users so infuriated they are deleting the software. If this was a “simple” fix……it be a simple fix and taken care of immediately.

So additional questions arise……this is caused by heavy areas reducing frame rate. Interesting considering some folks are taking pictures of flat terrain without buildings looking extremely blurry….that frame rate should be fine!

Stay on topic about the issue. Not about other things covered in the Q&A.

To be clear, based on what the devs said, this LOD issue is due to the system that detects framerate not working properly. This causes the system to reduce LOD in spite of a high enough frame rate that should not trigger it.

I think it’s evident that they’ve done too much far too quickly. Makes me wonder whether we will ever see it how it was prior to the update? I’m probably being over dramatic only because I loved the sim and I’m sure others are into it more than I am so the disappointment is massive. I know it’s not the most important thing in life but it’s a hobby for most!!

I dont want to be a cry baby or something like this but i feel tired of this there was the stuttering issues it took them a while to solve them we play the sim for a few days then came sim update 11 beta with this problem so we stop playing again to wait mid january to solve after that there will be another problem just so people can fly a new plane each week and give attention to that instead of the game itself its really tiring and dont want to play this is the only game where we pass more time finding solution to problems instead of playing

Come on guys, please calm down <3 Thanks for the informations, i couldn’t watch stream. Have a great positive day you all. My mother finally beat cancer, and doctors saved my father 4 days ago, heart/vein problems and he is at home now. I lost my kidney and some organ parts 1 year ago, i am still stuck on my bed. I was so lucky that they bought me XsX and lg c1 48 after my surgeries. I am so happy that we got our answers now and we are getting a fix.

Can’t you guys say “Thank you Community Managers, Mods and Ms/Asobo”?

Again, have a great positive day you all. I bought rdr2 last night and try to play it when i feel ok.

In fact, this is interesting. If it’s barely ever triggered or used, then why are heavy(er) addons run significantly better since SU11 i wonder.

So what’s the bottom line folks, I’m going to watch the stream in the morning. Doesn’t sound good.

They have isolated the issue and expect a fix mid-January. The issue does seem accidental, and waiting sucks. But it is what it is.

So a fix for this will be coming probably in mid-January. Thankfully it’s just a bug that’s easily fixed, and not a deliberate “downgrade”. :+1:

It was great to watch the whole stream, we got true answers (and amazing things for the future). Thank you Sebastian for the explanation!

Off topic - I see NBA2K23 is free on gamepass this weekend. That game is like 150gb by itself. I always wanted to try it out and will need to delete Flight sim to make room for it. Wish the SSD’s were getting cheaper on XB. Hopefully next year.

You do the longest farewell speeches😉,only joking really👍

150gb???!! Jeez that’s massive for a basketball game wow. Should be amazing at that size!

Mind you, so should msfs2020 but looking at ithe quality, you’d guess the whole file size couldn’t be greater than 3gb

I really can’t get upset about this. It’s not the permanent downgrade some had feared and we’ve already been told a fix is on the way. In the meantime the sim still often looks great and perhaps this is also a good opportunity for me to catch up on my Game Pass backlog!
