[Xbox Series X/S] Visual Downgrade - LOD Reduction

I’m sure it isn’t. it may help with texture pop in if you fly the same area but has nothing to do with image quality

i ran it off 90% of the time this year and made little to no difference and was going better with cache off (though might help if you do not have a strong connection and if you fly the same area/s over and over)

if you run it though it’s always a best practice to delete it and rebuild it at every sim/world update and i guess also beta

Same. I am also on PC as well as Xbox, where we have better troubleshooting tools. The cache seems to be more trouble than it is worth these days. Best case, it makes no noticeable difference and you have to clear it once in a while.

I was using Series S before, during SU8, SU9 and SU10 period. First time playing on Series X I just bought and wow… I was smiling for the whole 1.5 hour flight! The graphics upgrade from Series S is mind-blowing, the biggest gap between two console I’ve seen in any Xbox game. I would recommend to anyone playing on Series S to make a switch to Series X! It’s worth every penny.

The frame rate is very good for me on Series X in this beta. I have reduced ground traffic/airport traffic to 50 and no stutters. Playing with default 8GB rolling cache.

EDIT: Spoke a little bit too soon as I also experience some stutters. Disabling rolling cache fixes the problem.

What’s amazing to me is that the photogrammetry is not melted at first, like it always was for me on Series S (I had to wait for it to download). It’s perfect the first fly through on Series X. I hope it stays that way.

still getting a lot of “grainy” textures

I wonder if this is going to be taken in account or we’re going to live with another quality cut from previous version (didn’t even consider the 40th anniversary release as it was obviously a broken one)

I’ve been simming on Series X on a 4K monitor and had the opposite experience trying out a Series S recently. Completely agree with your recommendation.

There are a few posts here from folks who think it does, especially in the way of stutter improvement.

Some stutters here too, especially when changing view to external and when flying near airports. I have disabled rolling cache, as you recommended and what a difference! Suddenly I have completely smooth frame rate on Xbox Series X.

Asobo, there is something wrong with how rolling cache now works. Rolling cache enabled leads not only to stutters but also to slowly loading/poppin-in pilot model in external view. With rolling cache enabled I have to wait many times for 3-4 seconds for the pilot model to load (before that the seat is empty). This is something that should be investigated by the programmers. Right now the game performs much better with rolling cache turned off. I have a clean, fresh install of the sim, first time playing it on Series X.

I haven’t yet seen anything but YMMV. You know?

Joined the beta, got stuttering that disappeared after turning off rolling cache.

Did the same saved flight twice, once before joining the beta and once after I did the above. The terrain visuals are back to looking excellent. Not sure about the clouds yet- that was one thing about pre beta that looked like it may have been turned up. Great to have VRR back too.

Do you advise to Switch off rolling cache with this beta ?

No, not necessarily.
The sim should work properly either way, and if not, then that’s what the Beta is for.
If you use and need it, I wouldn’t change.

The actual question may be, do you see any advantage to using it?
If not, why use it at all.

But that’s for another topic!!

Yes endless topic, thank you

Betas are avaible for xcloud?

That’s right fellas - rolling cache can be a mixed bag but in my case since I’m packing a 50mb fibre optic connection, it helps. The larger I set it the more it helps but I do tend to fly in the same areas quite often. Some areas, however, are just problematic like London while others are absolutely fine like Sydney, many Aussie cities as well as US cities.

Took off from one of the largest airports in Paris yesterday… Charles something something… Dunno what it’s called… And man the runways’ and taxiways looked kinda bad from 2000ft, 1000ft and 6000ft e.g… frame lags and spikes all over… Things moving slowly then speeding up and catching up…

Nasty!

Sorry Asobo. Bad LOD is still there. https://www.xbox.com/play/media/3HC6YX2UTV

After the last update AAU1 beta version 1.30.7.0, LOD has returned to bad for me.

Chicago is back to the way it was before 1.30.5.0,… terrible.

I have tried with cache (32gb) and without cache.
Powering XSX off the wall.
The internal drive is for MSFS only.
Wired internet.
Download speed: 1020 Mbps
Wester Server response speed: 27 ms

According to them (Microsoft/Asobo) they have only made two corrections:

  • Improved crash/performance issues on Xbox for TBM and Longitude
  • Fixed an issue that caused the NAV radios to not properly accept inputs when connected to the non-modular Electrical System

How can this affect LOD?

Photogrammetry can be heavily influenced by the Microsoft servers and there’s nothing we can do about that. Are you seeing this degradation outside of photogrammetry areas?

i fly a lot in wild areas so no photogrammetry and yes, occasionally i still get bad patches (and most of the time if not always grainy texture)

it’s an improvement from su11? yes but that’s an easy one since the degradation was enormous
it’s good as used to be? not quite

i find the sim enjoyable again and that’s a major plus but we lost so much in the process
