Xbox stability: scenery performance using the PMDG 737 as the test subject

This is a thread that I’m glued to, thanks again for it. Great to share longer form reviews when real money is on the line. Appreciate everyone who contributes.

I went to test the new World Update and as a gift I got this beautiful black screen after arriving at the patio. Airport “LZTT”, Series S. The other friend had a black screen at the airport we left, “LKKV”. Also on Series S. How sad.

I’m lucky that, here in the UK, we have consumer laws that favour the customer. I’d have been really annoyed had I been stuck with Farnborough and Juneau - two airports that flat-out don’t function on Xbox. I don’t see why any of us should be out of pocket through no fault of our own.

For those that have the Xbox Series S, please keep in mind that most of the tests in this thread are for Series X. I do own both a Series X and a Series S, and I can tell you that complex airports are not your friend on the Series S. Some of them will work with the A320neo or the Bae-146 (minus the EFB), but will not work with the 737. This is very unfortunate, but something to be aware of.

Just did a flight from YPPH Perth (Axonos) to YPAD Adelaide (Impulse Simulations) on Series X with 737 Virgin Australia livery and LVFR static traffic.

Both airports performed well, except for black screens out of Perth that corrected about 5 minutes after takeoff. No issues with Adelaide.

You can remove/disable it?

Impulse Canberra and Adelaide are both the good side of temperamental for me. They behave if I mostly restrict myself to the flightdeck but the drone, save for perhaps just a couple of minutes’ slow panning, is a definite no-no.

Don’t suppose you know anything about NZA’s Hobart? It completes my Oz collection (apart from Alice Springs and Hamilton Island, both too new to be discounted).

The EFB can’t be removed on the Bae-146 as far as I know. I meant “minus the EFB” as in it being a black screen, just like our black avionics screens on the 737.

I do have Hobart, and I’ll test it for you. Hoping that Melbourne gets released for us on the Xbox sometime soon.

I contacted them and they said August/September.

Yes, I actually missed the topic. But on the one hand, the World Update is part of the simulator, basically unusable for anyone who has a measly third-party aircraft in the Series S. Let’s go.

I haven’t played around as much with liveries, but I’ve tried just about everything possible at every airport that gives me issues and removing static aircraft does nothing at all.

LHBP Budapest by LHSimulations works well with the PMDG737. Just tested it on my Series X with the Ryanair livery, no issues.

Reality is alot of airports are gonna be unstable, you might need to just resort to pc,will be cheaper in the long run

Prague is also trouble free for me.

It’s always been unworkable for me. Even on stock A320s such a shame.

The Pyreege stuff is great.

The reality is also that there are some very big, highly-detailed airports that DO run extremely well on Xbox, so some devs have obviously nailed the Xbox optimisation formula. While annoying on the one hand, it’s actually encouraging on the other because it’s proof that the memory limitations CAN be overcome.

The solution isn’t PC for many people. It will be for me if FS2024 doesn’t improve the memory issue but for some, the initial cost is just too high. The ‘plug ‘n’ play’ nature of the Xbox is something many, including me, find attractive. I’ve said countless times, the only issue is the lack of memory — the processing hardware is right up there with a higher-spec PC.

That Sony are releasing a Playstation 5 Pro next year leads me to believe there may be merit to the alleged Series X Elite patent.

Still no issues with KLAX, by the way. Not been on today but did another flight last night after my last comment and everything was fine. For the current sale price, I’d say it’s worth a gamble as you’ll be more than happy if it performs for you guys as it does for me. More of an improvement over the Asobo version than I thought it would be.

I resurrected an old thread about Digital Design’s LFLL a couple of days ago and it’s received some new feedback — looks like one to avoid — one guy reporting that the entire terminal vanishes just before it CTDs!

Yeah it’s a very nice looking airport. But iffy with the A310 & 737. Just depends on how the sims feeling at the moment. Here’s some shot when it’s working great.

Here’s one when its not.

What’s the ratio of working to not working, would you say? Is it really bad with the 737?

Off topic, but ATC is completely silent today. This is no way to fly the simulator. It’s a joke.
