Xbox stability: scenery performance using the PMDG 737 as the test subject

Montreal, almost. Was hand flying the -700 on the ILS when screens went black at 1,000 AGL. Approach was stabilized in visual conditions, so I continued and landed uneventfully. The Box CTD’ed on the roll out as I was ticking off checklist items. Didn’t quite make the turnoff, probably should have quit after TD to log the flight (KCLT-CYUL). Maybe next time. Still, a very nice airport as I flew into it earlier today, GA.

BMW/Amsim version? I’ve not had any problems with it yet, flying the 738, ATR and 320. Lots and lots of drone use and I’ve not managed to BS it so far! These CTDs can happen randomly so I always like to give stuff a fair trial when testing. My first flight into MK’s EIDW went terribly but subsequent flights have been way more successful.

One again goes to show, though, how experiences can differ. BalloonAir’s experiences with CYUL seem to very much mirror my own.

I’m tempted by MM Sim’s EBLG but that’s another with reports of poor performance, even on PC.

Yes that CYUL. Will try again soon. Maybe an AC 787 outbound flight as I haven’t flown a heavy in weeks. Will gives YUL a fighting chance.

Once again I’ve bought the same airport like you and my SIM crashes everytime I load in and when I do manage to get in I’ve got black screens.

I’ve got no clue what causes it so there’s goes another £8 oh well because I’m definitely not getting a refund lol

I really wanna fly in Canada and the only two airport that work for me are Vancouver & Ottawa shame really

I have the same issue as well with that airport.

I must admit, I’m puzzled. Not a single BS or CTD there yet. We are talking BMW/Amsim CYUL here? I do get some stuttering when arriving on the 06 runways, and when taxiing in the vicinity of the main terminal area, but I just change view slightly to negate it. Used all my airliners there (32N, LVFR 320, 781, 73H, AT7) and I can’t get it to fail, even after using the drone for an extended period. There is PG in the area but Montreal isn’t the biggest of cities, and I can’t think of any other mods anyone could possibly have in that region.

My other purchase that night was MK’s EIDW, which is a different story. Does work but I have to use both external views and the drone very sparingly if I want to avoid problems.

Yeah BMW CYUL weird you seem to be having no issues but I guess that’s the way it is

I’ve said before but there HAS to be more to the Xbox issue that just memory. That two people can have such wildly different experiences really perplexes me. Most console users have been very happy with FlyTampa’s KBOS (certainly never caused problems for me) but recently someone stated that they’d had frequent BSs/CTDs with it.

I’ve no doubt these issues are memory-related but if we could find out the exact cause, we might be in a better position to mitigate them.

You’re not on Series S, are you? I always feel bad when someone buys an airport based on my recommendations but I don’t know what else I can do, except report my findings with honesty and in good faith. I always rigorously test my airports and will only post my full conclusion about each once I’ve done around 15-20 landings and the same number of take-offs.

Incidentally, many are reporting very few issues with Pyreegue’s EGNX but for me, it’s still quite temperamental at times.

Nah I’m on Series X too just so strange that I’m having issues with the exact same system as you.

I haven’t heard about KBOS having issues recently it’s been near perfect for me since I bought it in that big sale will have to give it a look soon.

As for EGNX Im definitely gonna wait until it goes on sale as you say it sounds very temperamental and as much as I love the Developer I’m not gonna spend £20 on a scenery that isnt 95% stable

To be fair, if you lay off the drone or at least use it very sparingly, EGNX is pretty stable. Remain in cockpit view and it’s great; moderate your exterior viewing and it’s still very good. A few stutters as you approach the main terminal when taxiing in but nothing terrible. Oddly, the aircraft I typically have most trouble with there is the ATR.

It’s definitely the new benchmark airport in MSFS. I paid full price because it’s my local — one of very few I’ve been willing to buy upon release. I keep looking at Macco’s EGCC (my other local) but I think I’ll wait till they update it as it’s certainly looking its age now!

I know we been through this hundreds of times but I thought I’d enable the rolling cache again 15gb. So I have ran 3 or 4 flights from Gatwick to Edinburgh and to Ireland. I don’t know if it’s my imagination but it’s running very smoothly feels almost like 60fps no black screens with add-ons.My first flight was stuttering but now it’s amazing with data cached. Running su13 beta

We need to go through it 5million times because we’re getting no answers from those who should be in the know! I really hope SU13 fixes some of the Xbox performance issues — and the delay seems to suggest they’re further refining it — however the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time…

On the plus side, there are two more potential Xbox fixes should SU13 fail: FS2024 next year, and a possible hardware upgrade (hinted at by Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer).

To be perfectly honest, although I wouldn’t exactly say I’m satisfied with the current console experience, I do immensely enjoy simming. I guess I’ve resigned myself to the fact that little more can be done with MSFS, given the inadequate and ageing coding. I guess Asobo didn’t foresee third-party products taking off as they have. Well, it’s plainly obvious now and if more provision for add-ons isn’t made in FS2024, those in charge won’t have listened to a single word any of us have said.

Not getting the next FS iteration right would be unforgivable — especially since it is being designed with Xbox in mind. They know what the community wants added/improved so there are no excuses for omitting the code necessary to accommodate simmers’ wishes.

Yes indeed nicely put. I will carry on testing this cache with Europe.we don’t know if they have tweaked something in recent updates I have multiple add-ons in the UK and no issues since

FWIW, was able to depart CYUL (BMw/Avsim) in the 787-100 under clear skies, without live weather or live traffic, on Series X no BS or CTD. Was early morning so servers likely not loaded, which may or may not matter. First flight with an add on livery to get AC, FSdreams (or something like that) pack 1. The Dreamliner makes for a nice Boeing break from the 737, and both are fun to fly when things are working in the box.

I’ve just flown CYOW to CYUL with no problems at all on Xbox using PMDG 737-700. This is with the BMw/a sim version of CYUL. Lots of drone etc.

CYOW Rowan Studios is rock solid on Xbox and so is CYYJ.

Seems many are having a lot of success with BMW/Amsim’s CYUL (which I’m glad of after recommending it so highly!). I wonder what’s causing xJamieRH’s problems?

I haven’t used live traffic with it but I have used live weather, and have the LVFR static aircraft pack installed. Still no BS/CTD issues.

Anyone have the MK version on Xbox yet? Still keen to hear how that one is…

I’m on Xbox x and with the Pmdg 737 I have stuttering at CYUL with this airport especially when looking towards the terminal. This is on the latest beta.

Yes, some stuttering when a lot of the terminal is in the frame but easily negated by changing your external view slightly (or remaining in the cockpit). Stability is excellent for me.

I have the exact settings same as you live weather on traffic off and LVFR static pack so it’s bizarre how different things are behaving.

I still think a lot of the black screens and CTD are directly related to Working Title and their Garmin mods. I any many, many others had filed reports way back about their Garmin causing issues. They had patched it but it still persisted and now even worse it’s part of the core sim and we can’t even remove it.
So anything with a glass panel will come across issues. Is it clashing with something? Is it a memory hog? I don’t know but that’s where I’m putting my money as to the issue.

I can fly out of Calgary YYC upgraded airport all day in an aircraft with steam gauges but try it with glass panels and most likely I get black screen at some point.

Frustrating that they made this mod part of the core sim.
