Xbox stability: scenery performance using the PMDG 737 as the test subject

I think any of them that works on XBOX and is not Bredok as that looks c…p. Cheers!

I had a black screens with Oxford and cowansim 222b

I deleted it after I got black screens with the 737

I’ve had issues with Oxford in the past

If you mean Flytampas KBOS, it’s fantastic on Xbox Series X. Not forcing too much drone/ ext view, staying in cockpit I have been able to do several flights in and out with the 737 and 146 and it works great. I was a bit fearful given the fact there is PG all around the area but so far it works and looks great. I defo recommend it.

Has anyone tried Hamilton Island with the 737 on XSX?
I have this one on my list but I don’t know if to wait a bit.
Any insight would be very much appreciated.

PS
In that same area I can definitely recommend Mackay YBMK from ORBX also with a very nice PG around it, looks and works really nice.
YBRK Rockhampton from the same developer is also great although i think in my case it’s been slightly more unstable not sure why.

Right, I uninstalled the Bredok3d KBOS which was just ok and upgraded to the 1.10GB KBOS from Feelthere a while back. Only 2-3 flights out in the -700 but no problems to date. Based on that I can recommend it. The Feelthere airports are working for me overall FWIW.

Hamilton Island is definitely one on my wishlist too but a) it’s pricey, and b) the detail level looks like it will really push the Xbox, given their Ballina and Lord Howe Island (which cover much smaller areas) can occasionally crash the sim. Their Ayers Rock is a solid performer, however — not a single CTD there yet.

Totally agree re Orbx Mackay and Rockhampton (see my post somewhere above) — I too have found the former really stable, and the latter is stable enough as long as you don’t go tanking around in the drone for an hour. I suspect Rocky’s modelled interior is the reason it can occasionally crash, but I’d say it performs in the top 10% of airports I currently own.

I have all AUScene’s airports apart from Hamilton, and all Impulse’s bar Alice Springs. They’re both too new to be put in the sale but I will pick them up when they eventually get discounted. I have FlyTampa’s Sydney too, which performs well given the size. I’m hoping Orbx’s Melbourne won’t be too resource-hungry on console.

Weak as I am sometimes, and reading this thread doesn’t help as well, plus there’s a sale going on I decided to burn some money again. Already bought Flytampa’s Boston which is performing well so far but what about their Las Vegas bundle? Looking at it for ages, how is it currently doing?

I initially read bad reports about KBOS but I’m now reading much more positive stuff about it — has it crashed on you yet?

I’ve heard Vegas is a bit of a nightmare given the proximity of the highly-detailed city and its custom animations.

I only tried it with the LVFR range of aircraft and with the 787. I don’t own a PMDG 737 as of yet, but I haven’t encountered any issues yet. Note that I only flew out of it, not arriving.

Good to hear about Boston.

FlyTampa’s KLAS has historically been unusable for me, but I just noticed about a week ago that I am able to takeoff without black avionics most of the time now. Out of about 5 attempted departures from KLAS in the last week or so, only one resulted in black avionics which were present from the moment I launched the flight. Anyway, I’m happily surprised with that development, since the airport and its proximity to the beautifully modeled Las Vegas Strip make for a really satisfying flight.

Unfortunately, arrivals are a different story. I have absolutely never been able to land there without black avionics occurring about a mile or two from the airport. This behavior seems consistent with a trend that I’ve noticed in just about every airport that the black avionics issue occurs at. It seems much more prone to occurring on approach at any given airport, even if that airport usually doesn’t give me issues when I launch a flight there. Anybody else notice that?

Yes, totally agreed with your statement. Arrivals are much, much more prone to black avionics and CTD’s. I still have to try arrivals at KBOS as well… Fingers crossed.

Thank you for your comment about Las Vegas. That’s a no-go for me then, unfortunately.

Edit: did you also tried it without the city pack installed? So only the airport?

They’re sold as a package from FlyTampa; are they separable? I’ve never considered trying to uninstall part of it in the content manager, so maybe it’s possible. I’ll have to get back to you on that.

I could be wrong, but I think you can install them seperately? I read about that several times. But maybe this is only possible on PC…

I’ve read many comments stating that it’s far better with the city uninstalled. Not sure if that’s possible on Xbox though?

On a different note, once this sale’s over I’ll revisit this thread to post a complete update of what’s usable and what’s not (based on my own collection, of course). I tend to group airports using four categories now: flawless (no recorded CTDs), good (above ~70% success), poor (below ~70% success) and unusable (guaranteed CTDs).

I’ve still only two airports that are guaranteed to CTD with the PMDG 737, having been refunded for Farnborough and Juneau (which would both CTD in even the stock aircraft).

Good idea. But please consider arrivals as well, just do some real life ops :+1:

Because I had my share of black screens and CTD’s after 2+hrs flights to the point I abandoned the Sim for 2 months. Only this week I started flying again.

I will only ever categorise once I’ve fully tested an airport. That typically means 20-30 take-offs and the same number of landings, coupled with a bit of circuit-bashing. I also take the drone out during turnaround (I always do real-world flights).

I’ll tend to post here my initial findings with a new airport, just to help anyone considering a purchase, but please don’t take that as my final opinion.

Great. Thank you in advance😃

Also worth mentioning that my own findings might differ to those of others — for instance, I’m having a pretty good time with Ini’s Stansted but it’s evident others are struggling. I suspect it’s down to other complex third-party scenery in the London area — something I have very little of.

Speaking of scenery, how are people with Ini’s Heathrow finding it these days? Tempted by the sale price…

If you will, post the other addons you have installed (or not) as well like static aircraft replacements, ground vehicles replacements and so on.

I don’t use anything like that, third-party-wise — just airliners (PMDG 737 and JF 146 so far) and airports/city packs. I am tempted by LVFR’s static traffic, but I am concerned about a performance hit, and how accurately aircraft are positioned at particular stands/terminals in relation to real-world ops.
