I thought this pack was unusable on console due to duplicate scenery?
I’m having to put some of my reviews on hold as the testing was mostly done under SU13. Now that 14’s come along, I’m seeing issues at airports that were not troublesome before. Drzewiecki’s EPKK wasn’t perfect in SU13 but it’s way more temperamental in 14! Also, Northern Sky’s Alaskan airports seem a little more easily triggered now — it’s so hard to tell if what you think’s happening is in fact happening, or if the placebo effect’s taking hold…
I fly there constantly, no issues other than some chugging now in 14. I don’t use LVFR aircraft though as there’s about 8 prominent ‘double aircraft’ inside each other.
Usually flying something like the Husky or something with zero avionics will find chugging the instant something it doesn’t like is loading in. I’ll fly around DCA tonight, usually right when the parking lot drops in with cars the metro starts running.
Don’t have EPKK(or haven’t tried if it’s Asobo add??) But TNCM, not really. However if you do ‘taunt’ the people at the end of the runway, they drop in at about 200M away, it will chug a bit. Usually it will JUST start at landing, then build up while taxiing. From any flyover height 1000’+ no issues. Grand case starts up right within the bounds of the runway, gets bad at the terminal.
And once you start that ‘chug’, it does NOT go away.
Again, there’s also the bug where you load up avionics on a C&D and you start chugging, then restart the flight and it’s clear. And that’s NOT linked to scenery. G3X is the worst, usually have to light them up and restart the flight ~3 times and voila! It’s smooth. I imagine it’s all tied together somehow, something broke in the last beta. Being it seems to happen the instant animations drop in(or the avionics start-up), there’s some initialization bug there. In SU9 you just bomb crashed CTD. It tries to fight through it now.
No, I’ve had it forever, the one with Grand Case. It takes a seaplane or a really low approach to see the people, but that’s for sure where it starts chugging. Although I was there in the Flotiak bobbing around watching MP chaos for a few and took off and it did clear up, but if you’re on the airport grounds you’ll just go to single frames.
For startup, try this. Get in 3-screen aircraft and just control-e, sweep around the view and see if it’s laggy in outside view. If so, restart the flight, most of the time it’s aces. The outside sweep ups the chances of exploiting an issue. Even just an aircraft with just coms can lag out. Go to a somewhat decent first party airport like Barth. Try a G3X aircraft and I’d bet you need to restart the flight 3 times, then, it’s just fine…
Otherwise, you get all setup, load proceedures and tweak your flight plan, pull out to taxi and oops, starts chugging.
What really annoys me is that the beta of SU 14 ran so badly on the XBOX right from the start. I had it installed from the beginning and went back to SU 13 several times because the performance was so bad. What’s the point of a beta phase if you don’t optimize anything during this time and then release the version despite all the problems. This shows once again that the Xbox is apparently still being neglected. Even though SU 14 doesn’t run well on the PC either.
But anyway, let’s hope that Asobo is aware of the problems and doesn’t wait until SU 15 to fix them.
Well with beta’s they’ll ‘poke the tiger’ trying stuff that can and will cause problems. Hence it being beta. SU9 was the worst official drop, considering SU8 was outstanding. The beta was the escape from that one.
But if some 3rd party isn’t causing issues, most of the time doing something like working that G1000 in the new SR22 is some of the best flying I’ve had yet in this sim. I really don’t have too many issues, I just know where to find trouble with it.
Oh, I found another black screen the other day the minute the carrier dropped in near Key West coming in just passing Marathon. The INSTANT it loaded. ZERO issues before 14. I’ve come in from northern Florida in a Kodiak and landed the carrier first, then Key West for giggles many a time. No lag, just blackout. Out of spite I took off again from Marathon for the 6 minute flight to ‘finish the landing’ properly and it didn’t do it. But it was on the same load of the game. Need to test that one too. I did uninstall/reinstall, just haven’t tried the route again(was in the C414).
I HAD just installed Supercarrier Pro at the time, haven’t had time to play with that yet. I often do Hollywood to Key West in various GA.
Interesting that you see no issues with TNCM — you are on Xbox, not PC? It will be Airworthy’s if you see people on Maho Beach, and it includes Grand Case.
I’m trying to think where Asobo’s TNCM came from — I know it can’t be individually removed but, if it was included in one of the USA WUs, surely the answer is just uninstalling that entire WU?
Idk this probably has been mentioned before I’m on Xbox X and no problems at asobo handcrafted airports but when i spawn at or fly to marketplace add on airports stutters galore and black screens and Ctds. Add on aircraft and default. No live traffic on just live weather. Example Sydney handcrafted airport fine but Melbourne orbx airport sim crashed 3 times. Smh hope this beta testing solves this I’m sure we all do. Everything was fine before SU14 I don’t understand why all these sim updates aren’t fixing anything but making it worst
On Xbox, all WU installed and global shipping always set at 100, ground aircraft 100. Does get a little laggy after landing and chugs a bit on taxi to parking. It’s the people animation that triggers it, 100%. Wish they would dump that ‘feature’ and just render them static. Same with the house party going on at the grand case terminal
Used the WACO as it’s not going to be avionics and lets a lot of scenery in, even left the MP name tags on, which can be a lot there. Flew at 100’ over the threshold at TNCM and just had the lag burp as it drop kicked everyone at the threshold, the LOD is very short for them. Didn’t seem harsh enough to black screen, but the chugging stays around a bit after they drop back out.
Continued to grand case, same thing around the terminal(fast runway pass) and back to TCNM with the beach, on the third pass over the beach HARD CTD. Would of definitely black screened at some point by then. Many GS ships stopped loading textures and some moving ones were invisible after a couple passes, which doesn’t really happen. Almost like it opens a can of crash once those little people animations load once.
Uninstalled all global shipping and did it again, only a tiny bit smoother in general flight, no CTD but tons of lag after the 3rd or 4th pass, landed and taxied and never stopped lagging, 100% chance of black screens, didn’t check the rudimentary transponder to see if it was still on. And that airport is small, less than 1 gig. If you fly around there for a while at the eastern end, it doesn’t lag at all, just one you pass the beach and the problem does stay with you in some way or another. And that is a tiny amount of data.
Need to see if that Metro at KDCA causes issues. I did all of this in SU9 but it would hard crash back then, same exact type of elements. I’ll come into TNCM with the C510 or Kodiak, the single pass would usually just chug it a little, and be a little choppy up through the taxi. Not sure if that would be a black screen for a 737. Birds and GS to itself(including the English Channel which is chock full of 'em) doesn’t cause issues like SU9, I spend hours landing on warships in HI with the helis. Will also try the dumb little glider at dillingham.
I had my first crash at Asobo’s TNCM last night. Never happened before so I’m attributing it to either SU14 or the new Xbox stability beta (or both)…
The mind boggles as to why they thought SU14 was a good idea when SU13 was about as good as we’re going to get. Who’s testing console stability these days? They need firing!
I’ve been encountering consistant CTDs and BS nearly every time I get anywhere near both NYC and San Diego lately.
For the NYC area I’ve got Samscene3d’s NYC, Enhanced Photogrammetry from Project Coastline and FS Birds. Also running is Amphibious Ready Group and Super Carrier Pro.
For San Diego, LVFR KSAN, San Diego Water Fix Miramar as well as the Global Shipping and the latter 3 I mentioned from above.
Prior to the update, I had zero issues running all of them but now its guaranteed CTD going anywhere near these places.
Now the trouble is I can’t seem to pin down which one(s) from above would be the most likely culprit(s).
Anyone else have any issues with any of the above?
Birds, Coastlines, so many tempting things to add and look for/at. Temptations resisted many times over to hold onto whatever stability we have left after airport add ons and perhaps a piece of scenery, or two. Yikes!
SU14 ran so badly for me right from the start that I completely reinstalled the MSFS before Christmas. After that, I only installed the sceneries I needed for a flight for a while. I completely left out things like global shipping, birds or seasons. My experience: This did not help in any way with SU14. SU14 runs just as badly with hardly any addons installed as it does with over a hundred. I really believe that searching for individual poorly optimized global addons doesn’t help much at all. SU14 is the main problem.
By the way, I also use Global Shipping, Birds for many regions and Enhanced Photogrammetry. I’ve never had the feeling that these add-ons have a major impact on performance. If at all, then in my experience it has only had a minimal effect. No comparison to the influence of third-party airports.
I’ve always said this line MS frequently trot out about having too many add-ons is a myth. It’s something they use to keep us passive while they desperately scratch around behind the scenes for a solution.
I was told to try MM’s Liege with just 3-4 WUs installed, and the same number of third-party airports. Ordinarily I wouldn’t have gone through the hassle but I was confident I would prove a point… and I did. It made absolutely no difference. Poorly optimised products are exactly that: poorly optimised. No amount of rearranging within MSFS will solve the problem.
At the time of this exchange with a MS representative, I had 57 third-party products. I now have over 100 and guess what? The airports that have always been stable, still are… and those that ran like a drunken, one-legged horse, still do!
I don’t care what MS or Asobo claim: the number of add-ons ain’t the problem.
Be that as it may, we only have word of mouth and reputation to consider before buying more scenery. There is no information about product optimization available in the market place, unlike the supermarket where we can read food product labeling and exercise reasonable skepticism. Then there are the questions around 2024, what will be forward compatible and backwards support for 2020 if we still need to hold on to it. All things considered, I stick to the basics these days: Airplanes, Airports, and very select scenery. Nice to haves go by the wayside until we have more stable systems and disclosed upgrade path. YMMV but I spend enough on these luxuries already LOL!
