XBOX Version - What about content from other marketplaces?

I’m using this sim from day one. But since my pc isn’t the most powerful machine anymore the plan was to buy an XBox Series X and play in 4k whenever it releases. So in the meantime I bought aircraft and scenery from all kinds of stores and even from the developers directly. The releases on the ingame marketplace are usually way too late.

Since there will only be the ingame marketplace on XBOX - what happens to all the content I’ve paid good money for? Do all the developers have to apply to the Microsoft ingame store? Do they expect us to buy all the planes and scenery again? Would it really be so difficult to give us a community folder on XBOX as well?

I just wanted to put this out for debate. What are your thoughts on this? I would not buy an XBOX Series X if I were not able to take every aircraft and every scenery I payed for with me. Of course that’s just me 'cause I would buy the Series X just for the Flight Simulator.

Well you can’t exactly have a “Community folder” type system on a console because consoles don’t run full operating systems. Even though Xbox technically runs a modified version of Windows, there is no open file structure present where one can freely download, extract, and mess around in the folders of games and applications. I hate to break it to you, but if you knew you were going to switch to Xbox for flight simming, then you probably shouldn’t have bought content from external marketplaces…

I have to disagree there. You can play music and watch movies and access other files from external media. So at least it should be no problem addressing the folder on an external hdd. And just because it’s a different file system does not mean you can’t access it. So technically it should be no problem. And giving access to a single folder in the file system is of course possible.

There is no way I could have known that there will be no community folder on Xbox. I mean these days you can install linux on a Nintendo Switch so please don’t tell me Microsoft has no way of integrating a community folder into their own operatin system on Xbox. Technical reasons don’t matter here.

Even if every developer jumps on the markerplace train - they can’t just handout keys to every existing customer because we have no key system on the ingame store.

This should be more of a public discussion than a request for help. Otherwise I would have postet in the “Self-Service” categorie. But thanks for your input. :relaxed: :+1:

You assumed, which is always bad.
Just follow the information released by the devs (which is (at least for now), only marketplace supported). Don’t get excited based on hopes and (unvalidated) expectations.
Something that might look trivial to you, might be a lot more complex to people who actually know what they’re doing. If it was easy, they would have added the community folder. I’m expecting there’s something in the XBox architecture (software wise) that prevents this.

Just like you can’t just add software on an iPhone from outside the Appstore without jailbreaking your phone.

If Apple would implement a way to do so it would be possible. And that’s my point. It’s technical possible. The developers just need to provide Xbox packages of their mods. There are other reasons Microsoft does not want to do this. Maybe it makes the system architecture vulnerable to hacks or they trying to make more money. And that’s where you are right. They have their reasons and we can only speculate what they are. But it’s technical possible.

But forget about the community folder. There should be no problem integrating planes and scenery from the marketplace. So if a certain plane gets released there, how can we transfer it without having to buy it again? There are no serial keys on the store. It would be cool to find a solution for this. It must be possible in some way.

Most likely a licensing issue with the third party.
You’ve paid that third party for a license on a platform outside of Microsoft’s / Asobo’s control.
You’ll have to raise that issue with the platform where you’ve purchased your mods. Ask them if it’s possible, since there’s no way for MS/Asobo to find out what you’ve purchased from outside sources.

Right now, most likely they won’t be able to answer your question, but if those third parties get these questions often enough, they’ll likely raise the question with MS/Asobo to see if there’s a solution for this (if they’re even inclined to do this, which I’m I’m not too hopeful about, since they’re happily charging extra money for the same mods they’ve released for other platforms (X-plane, Prepar3D) before. If you’re lucky, you might get a discount).

Of course I could just show them the receipt of my purchase but that’s going to far. Serial keys for planes and sceneries would be the solution here. And of course developers would hand them out because they want you to buy the next plane and the next and so on…

This is actually a really good idea. Third party developers like OrbX do have much more influence than a common user.

Is it possible for the developer to give a discount on the ingame marketplace? I mean not a general discount but to a specific user?

No clue, that’s for the third parties and MS/Asobo to figure out

If Skyrim on Xbox can have freeware mods/addons, then so can MSFS. It being on console is not a barrier.
