Xbox X or Xbox S? Which will You choose?

As we are all looking forward to the upcoming release on the console of the Xbox series , just wondering which one many of you will choose ? I already have a pc on the sim but sometimes I just want to lay back and chill out with this sim on the big screen. I choose the series s mainly because it’s available and just for casual flying . I am curious though how many of the community members are going to purchase one or not . Or like myself just to casual fly?

I’ve being playing xbox in my personal down time for around 20 years. I’ve been luck enough to pick up the xbox series X at launch, and had been searching for a good sim for many years, when Microsoft announced the MSFS, and then removed it from the store I was dissatisfied with the lack of communication, however 7 months have passed and MSFS has really being given some console love. I’m very excited to get my hands on the standard edition via game pass and cannot wait.

So for me it’s Xbox series X. Using 28" 4k UHD gaming monitor with 60hz, DOLBY Atmos enabled wireless rigs 800 and I’m not sure what Peripherals I’m going to be playing with.

I’ve got the standard series x controller which is nice. A g502 mouse and razor keyboard, and also the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS One.

I love simulation games and the thought of playing somthing like this on the trusty pnp xbox is very exciting. As my skills and knowledge base grows and my confidence as a pilot I dream of a mock up cockpit or the very least higher spec Peripherals like the Honeycomb series, I’m glad Microsoft has opened the door for third party accessories and only time will tell how they go! Exciting times they are!

Very well put there . It’s amazing how a sim can come to a console for me as well pretty much unreal. Looks like you have a nice setup there should run nice . I would have gone with the series x too but no way am I am going to pay those price gougers near 1000 dollars for one . So I settled for an S for my needs . And when I want to get serious I got the big rig pc for that application.

Just want to clarifies something. The Xbox have limited future\ceiling, the fuzz on Xbox is for now not later, because the hardware is fixed, it can’t be upgraded or reach higher level later. The PC will get several things not possible on Xbox, in term of overall quality, graphics option and latest generation capability and such. PC is already more powerful then Xbox, in 2 years will be light years.

Of course the Xbox can’t beat a pc . My topic is just out of curiosity and to see what other members are getting in terms of the Xbox if any or none . I agree 100 that the ox is superior and will be instead of a fixed.

I’ve already bought an XBOX Series S for this game exclusively at this point.

I used to be a devout PC gamer, however, as an adult and a young family I don’t really have the time nor money to constantly upgrade my gaming PC. Therefore, I bought a Playstation 5 (took me 6 months to get due to the backlog!) for my 4K gaming.

However, once I found out that MSFS was coming to the XBOX console I had to buy it, as my Alienware gaming PC is 9 years old and won’t meet the system requirements for the 2020 MSFS. Therefore, I bought the S as it is affordable ($300) and I might upgrade to an X in the future when the prices come down.

My playstyle will be a combination of simming and casual flying. I would really appreciate a career mode in the XBOX edition sometime. There are many career modes available on PC but none of these can be used the XBOX edition. Yes, I’m aware they “gamify” the simulation - but I do like having something to strive for as a sim.

And most importantly, I live in Australia and we have been lockdown for two years (can’t leave the country unless we get special permission) and I haven’t seen my extended family in Europe for 3 years - therefore I will be using MSFS to explore the pre-covid world - and reminisce at least until COVID finally leaves us… sometime.

Really excited for the 27th!

Love your story . I know what’s happening there in your country is pretty bad . Anyways enjoy yourself have fun flying to these places . Especially during these times . I have found the sim to be a great joy as well . Everything is very expensive especially in Australia and parts for PCs and etc. I too will upgrade maybe to a series x later when it’s reasonable. But for many it’s for what would suit your needs. Cheers :beers:

I don’t know about that. MSFS is one of the halo games to show off the new Xbox so I doubt it’s going to disappoint. I bet most users won’t see the difference in image quality and that’s why I think it’s a game changer.

Most people will spend $500 for a Xbox series X instead of thousands for a PC for basically the same experience.

Yeah I agree with you there especially on the price point . I know the gamers are a new breed a different breed but any money pouring into the sim is good money and the hobby as well . A pc a decent one today is crazy expensive and to start out for 400 dollars is a bargain

I’m also from Australia and feel ya pain, we have been able to leave the house a bit more since December 2020 and only entered a short lock down in regional Victoria in Feb, but to travel and see our grate continent and the world msfs will be my saving grace.

Hello,
I’m waiting to be able to fly MFS on my series X, but how is posswibile there are no peripherals ready to use for the console? Many are announced but I don’t find anything already available.
even the bad Thrustmaster Hotas one for Xbox is not available.

Well, to be honest, the new Xbox beats almost every PC when it comes to value and costs…

Hi to all. I’ve already bought the series S because my pc (imac) can’t afford the system specifications (15 fps on medium graphics) and because my tv is 1080p.
I have some doubt regards the peripherals. I have the Logitech G Flight system yoke and for now is not available for the xbox. I hope that in the future there will be more periperals for the xbox system.

Indeed, I think as it becomes more popular on the console that more and more third party peripherals will become available for the system.

The Devs have said in a Q&A that the HORI hotas and the Thrustmaster t flight one is compatible from day one on console release, admitting that the build quality on both devices are much to be desired for, I opted for the Thrustmaster because I was able to pick one up near new for half the price of a new retail unit and it is 100% compatible with elite dangerous on xbox, it also had better reviews and diy fixes available. The xbox store has the thrustmaster in stock and most gaming peripheral retails had them in stock also. Try you’re local trading sites, personally I use gumtree or Facebook market place.

I totally get some of the comments here. As retirement is a couple of years away I am trying to « lean » my gaming habits. The constant PC upgrade cycle will be out of my budget, and I no longer play flight sim to nerd levels, preferring the odd casual flight when I fancy it. I have acquired a Series X and a TM Tflight to evaluate this version, and if it is up to scratch, the PC will go, as in all other respects the Series X fulfils my needs.

Also, in terms of the two different versions…

I watched parts of the video attached below from a Youtuber ( [MR 4K UPSCALER] who used the same techniques Asobo is using (he got this information from the recent SDK and Analysis discussion by Asobo) to demonstrate what he thinks the XBOX Series S would look like vs the Series X. A very interesting watch. I have provided a link of him demonstrating the Series S, and as he mentioned, for the price of $300 it looks great (rendered at 1080p and then upscaled to 4k if you have a 4K tv). A really interesting watch. He then later on shows the Xbox Series X.

I agree with you there . As a long time simmer since the 80s I can see PCs going out of style in the next years to come completely

I got the series X just for this sim. A gaming PC was not a practical solution for me to enjoy MSFS. I don’t really use the Xbox for anything other than forza motorsport. So I got a series X and sold my original release Xbox one for $200 on Facebook marketplace, so that offset the cost too. now ill wait to find a tango foxtrot when they are available and ill be set.

I am talking at long run, from 2 years and above, PC version will be superior, and not ability to tweak cfg manually is already step back. Xbox version is to introduce newbie to hopefully merge them later to PC version. That sim is 10 years project, PC won’t be stuck on fixed memory for long time.
