XPlane has Nothing to worry about

Well, 2 out of 3 is most. I’ll give you that. Not too sure about the validity of your statistical extrapolation, though! Then again, 90% of all statistics are made up…

I tend to do both inside and outside of the cockpit. Inside is better for realism, outside better for amusement. I installed the head tracking software, and that certainly makes in-cockpit VFR flying easier, at least until we get multi-monitor or VR support.

Want a challenge? Try taxiing the Shock Ultra from the in-cockpit view!

10 out of nine people actually agree that statistics are flawed.

To keep this on topic though…i hope EVERYONE isn’t resting on their laurels…

I mean, I can also guarantee you that when XP12 comes out, XP11 has nothing to worry about.

You have Vulkan in XP11.50rc3 for performance, and you have other addons you already purchased for weather, scenario, navigation, aircraft, etc. Why you would want to shell out another $60 for XP12 just for some fancy clouds?

What? You haven’t purchased any addons yet for XP11? Then I have a good news for the lucky you, for $60, you can have full package of weather, scenario, graphics, etc. and that addon is called MSFS2020

Yeah you’ll just have to give up your aircraft’s functionality and avionics, and half of what makes it a true simulation.

Asking somebody what view they prefer when they are just watching somebody else on a sim is not terribly meaningful. We all know you can see the scenery better in external view, that doesn’t mean that if your friends actually flew a plane in the sim they would necessarily fly third person mode. Many start to enjoy the actual process of learning to fly a plane properly and interacting with the controls. Those that don’t are going to get bored of flight simulation pretty quickly when the novelty of the pretty scenery wears off, and it will.

Couldn’t agree more. You’ve nailed the difference perfectly between gamers and simmers. I’m looking forward to the day where these forums are filled with more simmers than gamers. Until then, it’s a lot of muted threads.

As far as my two cents from the op, XPlane11 is nice, but it’s taken awhile and it’s taken the community to get it where it is today. This thread started out 3 days after launch, but look how far it’s coming in under a month! There second patch appears to be a beast, what will msfs2020 look like in a year?

XPlane11 better hurry and start talking about XP12 real soon, cause msfs2020 is poised to crank it outta the park.

I almost wish they would remove the ability to fly from the 3rd person view as to not take away from simming within the cockpit. We have several people in our discord that fly with me, and I can always tell who the simmers are vs the gamers by what view they fly with.

I am not holding my breath for this second patch, as it really didn’t go into too many details on what it will actually fix. However, if the fixes do start to bring about functionality that can rival X-Plane’s default aircraft then I believe we will start to see a decent shift of actual X-Plane’s “simmers” moving over to MSFS. For sure, it will get there one day. Just how far into the future that one day will be is anyones guess at this point.

I beg the differ -

Summary

PATCH #2 HIGHLIGHTS (full patch notes will be released with the patch)
Performance improvements
ATC updates
UI updates
Aerodynamic updates
Aircraft updates
Cockpit visuals and animation updates
General aviation system updates
General aviation avionic updated
Airliner system updates
Airliner avionic updates
Live Weather updates – (e.g. 225/3kt wind fixed, persistency fixed, etc.)
Upgraded multiplayer servers
Marketplace updates
Content Manager updates
Localization updates
Accessibility updates
Camera updates
Bush Trip updates (e.g. completion trigger fixed/Completionist achievement fixed)
World updates

There is plenty of info there, it also shows they are listening to the community. Yeah, we have no idea exactly how much is getting fully fixed, except the wind issues which garnered a ton of complaints, but they are showing us that they are taking our feedback seriously.

I think it’s boiling down to glass have full or half empty, and for alot of us, this is just the beginning and it’s definitely 1/2 full.

Also, there needs to be some other fixes like aircraft performance coming more in-line with their real life counterparts and the flight model will need fine tuning. Control command at the moment is overly sensitive and aircraft are rotating well below their rotation speeds. These are not necessarily show stoppers, however the avionics issues are for any kind of serious simmer, especially ones who prefer IFR flying.

3rd party hardware functionality and support for multiple monitor setups will be the final nail in the coffin. Once MSFS can achieve all of these issues then there is no stopping it. What I have been most upset about though is that most if not all of these items were advertised by MS to be in the initial release. They were not very up-front about most of the issues the “sim” is having, almost to the point of deceiving potential simmers about MSFS’ functionality.

These are all pretty vague and general. I’m hoping there is real progress made but you can’t claim that these are in-depth and comprehensive bug fixes. They literally have the word “General” in them. That could mean very minor fixes all the way to fixing all the bugs present.

Not arguing that patch 2 is addressing many of the issues that have been raised and that they are listening. About time they do listen as they had an alpha and beta testing period when a lot of theses issues were raised. I’m just saying I don’t want to get my hopes up until the actual patch notes are released and hopefully we will all be pleasantly surprised.

We’re going back and forth about their “level of progress” before they’ve even revealed what exactly they are fixing/adjusting. Can we not focus on the fact that they are making “progress” and wait to judge this patch until, oh I don’t know, they actually drop the patch? I realize this reply may not age well, but I’m happy they are making progress in general.

You’re obviously a faster typer than me as your most recent reply addresses my reply lol. Blue skies friend!

Gamers go to reddit maybe lol? Just saying

I wasn’t an x-plane fan for many years. I’ve since purchased x-plane 11 last year and have used it faithfully up until the release of MSFS 2020 and it has been a bumpy ride with x-plane and any truly honest simmer will tell you the same thing. All of the crashes and all of the stutters and low fps and freezes and all the problems that x-plane had never made us give up on it. We continued to purchase study level aircraft from vendor after vendor. We bought active sky and many, many other Add-Ons searching for that realism that we craved. Then along came MSFS 2020 and BOOM! It blew the doors off of anything out there visually in the flight simulation world! Again… any truly honest simmer will tell you the same. Now the stock aircraft that ship with it leaves us with the desire for aircraft where all systems are fully functional. Some people are demanding this from Microsoft when they didn’t demand it from Laminar Research. To me it’s hypocrisy at its finest! When pmdg, Carenado and others come out with study level aircraft then FS2020 will emerge as the reigning champion of the flight simulation world!

Yeah, exactly. I’ve never heard any X-Planer say how much they love the default 737, or default MD-80. LOL.

My first impression trying MSFS was very good. I flew with the Cessna 152 and the graphics and lightings/clouds are really great. But honestly after less than 10 days i became somehow “bored”. It’s nice and funny for close-to-the-ground flights but as soon as i fly over FL100 the textures look not that good and quite blurried. Then, the live weather not working and not providing the correct weather, no good aircraft at all available right now, the camera systems being not very convenient…i switched back to X-Plane one week ago and i felt in love again. Flying the A300-600 is just fantastic. I am really looking forward to XP12 and will try MSFS in a few months again. I really hope it will become better because it’s just not ready yet. After the first “wow” effect, there isn’t that much else for now. Let’s wait and see.
