eheheh, back when I was doing instrument training IRL, and flight simulator cockpits were still 2D, I took a picture of the R44 being used (just the instruments console) and overlaid the simulated instruments, to replicate it in the sim for ground training in holds and such ![]()
Umm, my first plane I owned was a '73 Piper Challenger (Cherokee), back in the '90ās. True, in 2000 I almost bought an SR-20, wasnāt quite full glass back then, but, close enough. Couldnāt beat the price at the time (less than $200K new) But these days, when I was in the market again, I almost bought this a few years ago⦠full steam, no glass at the time. Sadly, it needed a complete engine overhaul that would have cost more than the plane was worth (GO-480), not to mention it was on the other side of the country at the time, and I just didnāt have that kind of cash.
I do still dream of owning that plane, sigh (~$70K at the time). Iām so glad itās in the sim. I hope he upgrades it someday, but itās still fun to fly in 2024. Point being, absolutely, Iād rather save the $50K - $150K or more by buying steam than get a full glass aircraft, not to mention Iām more comfortable with steam. Sure, the equivalent of a 430 or 530 would be nice to have in whatever I get. Thereās lots of other choices I think about getting, all steam, hopefully my investments take off soonā¦
Back on track, a C206 would be a lot⦠more airplane than I would care to own for real. But it does carry a lot. And Iāll most likely pick it up in the sim as long as itās got floats. Iām just not a fan of glass, even in the sim. Iād much rather fly steam, for real or sim.
Oh totally! Iām sure itās not everyone. Iām just going off what Iāve seen in the forum. Few seem to be interested in glass. But IRL most of the ones Iāve peaked into had glass. Not that Iām that experienced - mostly guys coming to airshows in their small planes. The only plane Iāve ridden in did not have it but that was back in about 1990 and it was an old Cessna 172.
I just hope the Hobbs works properly in this 206! Itās the small thingsā¦
Iāve had Carenadoās Cessna 182 RG for quite sometime, and itās my favorite among the smaller aircraft.
Iāve had the 182RG since it came out. Itās a good plane, but has some small things they should of fixed.
If you pull the cabin heat knob, it triggers thr cabin air, and vice versa. It doesnāt really make a difference since heat and air isnātmodeled.
And on thr ADF unit, if you push the FLT/ET button, it triggers the animation on the set/reset button, but at least it triggers the right command.
