Well, darn it! I was waiting until the 30th to submit my list of favorites. I guess it doesn’t work that way.
Oh well. For what it’s worth I’ll still compile it and just submit it late… It probably would have very little effect on the overall order of things, anyway.
Nope, it’s the nearest Sunday to the end of the month as mentioned at the end of each update. And mimicking the way the music charts rundowns used to work (here in the UK at least… is that even a thing any more?).
I sometimes publish a day late due to life, but never early
Yeah, that’s one of my many character flaws… not listening.
Anyway, under your very recent reminder about how we SHOULD be determining what goes into our lists, here is mine in a highly subjective order:
C172 (Asobo) Life wouldn’t be the same without this one. I am truly surprised that it’s not on many other’s lists.
C152 (Asobo/WBsim) I really learned to fly in this one with Jummivanna and her real-life pilot friend’s tutorial in FS2020.
C170B (Carenado) If someone took 1 & 2 away from me, I think I could survive with this tail-dragger version of the C172,
C185 (Carenado) or this hot-rod version of the C170B!
NXCub (Asobo) Everyone should experience the unique thrill of bush flying.
PA28 Dakota (Carenado) For a nice flying low-winger.
Cirrus Vision Jet (MS) There should be at least 1 jet in my list, and I’ve pretty much figured this one out!
C400 Corvalis (Carenado) A poor man’s SR22, it’s great for fast RNAV hands-off flying.
DA62 (Asobo) A unique twin-diesel engine powered Diamond for my multi-engine certification, some day or never.
G-36 Bonanza (Asobo) This would have been higher up on my list but I am really not a fan of the cloudy, highly reflective wind-screen and crazy prop effects in this one. So, it would be the first to go in any corporate downsizing.
Too late for dinner, I know, but perhaps I can still sneak in for a little dessert?
No, thank you. I think I’d still prefer the fortune cookie. But I see there’s a little room left in the cabinet for my “First of October” trophy. Appreciate it!
Thanks again for your exceptional patience. Surely there must be a special MS/Asobo award for that achievement! (I still think yours is the best thread in the forum, BTW.)
Can’t fail to notice that there are more and more of those awful helicopters on the list, yuck!
So either way, my list for the next period taken from the last 30 days of flying:
CowanSim Sikorsky 76 - Still my most flown aircraft in the last month. It has it all, plus looks and sounds great.
A2A Comanche - Came back to flying it lately. With a new state-file my cylinders no longer randomly fail on touchdown, which is a notable improvement. It just feels great all-around.
AzurPoly Transall C160 - Really like it after the last update. Super immersive, lots of switches and the exact right old and clunky factor.
Taog’s Alouette III - I would appreciate some small fixes here and there, but I pretty much replaced the 500C with it. It’s so ugly and awkward-looking, the Hughes simply cannot compete.
Flysimware Cessna 414 - The only thing that I don’t really like about this one is the hand-flying (yeah I know, probably the only person on Earth), but the sounds, the curtains and the custom retro-instruments really pull me in.
FSS 727 Cargo - Great hand-flying experience, amazing soundscape, and just gets better and better with every patch.
FSS 727 Passenger - as above but with a toilet.
Gotfriends Wilga - lately checked this out again, and it’s still amazing and a truly unique experience. Almost easier to land in tight spaces than a helicopter.
FlightFX Piaggio 180 - Great hand-flying feeling in MSFS2024, plus I think I’ve turned from a Proline hater into a fan, really very convenient to fly. I just wish the information visibility would not suffer so much with DLSS on.
ATSimulations/Asobo Antonov An-2 - Still the king of “Asobo” retro planes, one of the most immersive aircraft out there. Works really well for me in msfs2024 with just one small fix.
Let’s see … Not all of them are “great” in MSFS 2024 but still enjoyable.
Grumman G-111 Albatross (Mike Johnson)
What an awesome aircraft, made with so much love and attention to details.
PA-28R Piper Turbo Arrow III (Just Flight)
Best memories doing some amazing flights in this overall great aircraft.
D17 / Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing (FF 1)
I hate tail draggers but this beast is so lovely and it purrs …
De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver (40th Anniversary Edition)
Lovely to get around, especially with the float variant, always fun to turn the fuel selector in the wrong direction.
Cirrus Vision Jet (2020: FlightFX; 2024: Microsoft)
Such a joy to fly if I need to cover a (relatively) longer distance in a sensible time.
Joby S4 (FlightFx)
An interesting way to explore areas and look for wildlife.
Magni Gyro M24 (BlueMesh)
Great for sight seeing.
BAe 146 Professional (Just Flight)
I’m not an airliner person but I love the look of it and the AFGS is a handful.
EA-7 Edgley Optica (GotFriends)
Low, slow, amazing views, what’s not to love.
Britten-Norman BN2 Islander (Blackbox Simulation)
It’s not the cutest aircraft on the planet but it’s really nice for island hopping.
I would have loved to include the Twin Otter because I love that aircraft. But the version in MSFS 2024 is just … not “ready”.
I just wanted to hold off until the REAL end of the month to check the logs and be sure that some untoward imposter hadn’t crept in under the cover of darkness. I have been trying out/revisiting quite a few different birds of late, e.g. Piper Pacer, C170B, L19, etc. but I haven’t really been keeping track of exactly for how often/long I’ve been in them. My top 10 (for October) escaped unscathed, though.
I’ll set a reminder alarm for November… if I remember.
While I am thinking of it, I have a question.
I know that many of your followers are quite keen to add the latest add-ons to their hangars. I wonder if any of them have both the Carenado C170B and the recent Carenado C172 (50s version) and can provide a comparison of their flight models? I’ve been getting mixed signals about the C172 from different sources.
Forgive me, Father Baracus, for I have sinned. It’s been almost two years since my last confession update.
OLD LIST
Comanche 250 (A2A)
TBM 850 (Black Square)
Bucker BU131 Yungmann (Lionheart Simulations)
Spartan 7W Executive (HCG Digital Arts)
PZL-104 Wilga (GotFriends)
Cessna C208 Caravan (Black Square)
L1049G Constellation (Redwing)
Fokker F28 Fellowship (Just Flight)
Alouette III (Taog’s Hangar)
Astro (GotFriends)
NEW LIST
Starship (BlackSquare) - Absolutely my favorite plane. There is something about this one that I connect with on a deep level. One of the few that feel like it’s “my” aircraft. (The TBM-850 is another one).
Learjet 25 (Xtreme Prototypes) - I love me some Learjet. The FSW 35A is another fine example.
Spartan 7W Executive (Burgess Simcraft/HCG Digital Arts) - Another one in the “I would own this” collection. I was very disappointed with the iniBuilds rendition, and I’m sticking with the Burgess/HCG version with a few performance tweaks.
Avro RJ (JustFlight) - If the RJ were porridge, it would be “just right”
727-200 (FlightSimSTudios) - Old-school CIVA-INS all the way, baby!
Grumman AA5B (BRSimDesigns) - I’ll take this over a comparable Cessna or Piper.
J-3 Cub (CAS) - Back to basics, stick and rudder and not much else.
Zero - The Corsair has occupied the warbird slot in my list for years, but even with 2024 compatibility the Zero just nudges it off the list.
Lama (Taog) - For helicopter touring, this is still the bird for me.
OV-10 Bronco (AzurPoly) - great for touring, can’t beat the visibility
Comanche 250 [A2A Simulations] I am so impressed with this aircraft. It feels like it really is mine, given the state persistance feature. I absolutely love the ground handling, especially on grass. This aircraft is so immersive. I can even hear metal creaking sounds after I land and shut down at the end of my flight.
Avro Lancaster [Aeroplane Heaven] several updates have come from AH. It is my first AH purchase and am very pleased with it. I see they are working on a North American B-25 Mitchell so look forward to that when it arrives.
Grumman G-111 / HU-16 Albatross [Mike Johnson/Microsoft] I rented this and liked it a lot so made it a permanent purchase. It has recently had a major update. New for me this month.
Cessna C310R [Blackbird Simulations] still my go to GA twin. Similar ownership feeling as in the A2A Comanche.
A6M5 Zero [Blackbird Simulations] Blackbird Simulations have done a great job with this one. I am very happy with it.
Curtiss P-40F [Inibuilds] I’m still enjoying this since being given it a couple of months ago.
Experimental Mini-500 [Got Friends] I’ve been using this little helicopter to explore the new Jurassic Park and World Islands*.
Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat [Got Friends] GF have recently updated most if not all their products to 2024 level.
PZL-104 Wilga 35/80 Series [Got Friends] still my favourite bush flying aircraft.
FG-1D Corsair [Blackbird Simulations] As for the C310R I now I have operational in MSFS 2024
*I am also using the Got Friends CrossKart to explore Jurassic World and other locations.
