Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft (Part 2)

Wow! Those prices really are far out.
The Red Baron was £34.99 when it was released in 2002 …. increased by a factor of 10.
Makes me ponder buying that Concorde, given that it is discontinued Dec 2027, shove it unopened in a cupboard for 10 years+ and see what it’s worth. 20yrs later £1700???
[unless I’ve made a mistake, 4% interest over 20 yrs would only yield £375]

I like that DC3 , but £200!

I can feel a Lego top 10 request coming on

Back on topic now

  1. Fenix A320
  2. A2A Comanche
  3. Tfdi MD11
  4. PMDG 777-300ER
  5. PMDG DC6
  6. Blacksquare Royal Turbine
  7. Inibuilds A350
  8. Just Flight RJ series
  9. Flight FX SF50 Vision Jet (2020 version)
  10. Blackbird Zero

With the recent sale and 2024 compatibility update I FINALLY have the wonderful PMDG DC6.

I’ll add my Underdogs list tomorrow, been too busy with CU16

As promised my Underdogs List… :small_airplane: :helicopter:

  1. Got Friends - Mozzie MK III - A mate of yours “Bish” recommended this to me ages ago and the views in VR are spectacular! Not flown it for a while so will have to get it out of the Hangar and fly it again.
  2. Ant’s Airplanes - Drifter 582 Ultralight - Used to fly this quite a bit in MSFS2020 but never really flown it in MSFS2024, again this had great views in VR and was perfect for flying low and slow to check out the scenery.
  3. Got Friends - Lake Skipper - This was a fun “Aircraft” to fly hoping and skipping in lakes etc, so much fun in VR too.
  4. Got Friends - Mini 500 - Another one I used to fly a lot in MSFS2020, had great views in VR, was quick and extremely manoeuvrable. It was the first Heli I learnt to start from a cold & dark state.
  5. bagolu & MBX Aviation - FR172 REIMS ROCKET / CESSNA R172 HAWK XP II - This is another one I used to fly a lot in the days of MSFS2020, the days before I started spending money on pay-ware Aircraft

Looking at my Underdogs list, three of them are from Got Friends  - never did get the Double Ender, but I’m patiently waiting and saving my pennies for their Taylorcraft to be released soon :crossed_fingers:

Next month I may have a Top 10 Underdogs List… these are the only ones that I could think of for now.

Excuse the Cross Promotion, but I have just released another wee project that I have been working on! Would be great to get some input and feedback!

This is a concept I have been meaning to try for ages and finally got around to building it!

Only changes were removed DC-6 and Kodiak and added BS Bonanza and Rafale:

  1. Black Square Starship

  9. Miltech/Stratoware MBB Bo 105

  10. BS Bonanza

The August list:

Two changes:

SWS Kodiak out, MS/WT VisionJet in

The reasoning:

This month has been (and September will be) all about flying biz routes in JetCard, so the upper half of the Top Ten reflects that. Those planes are not only really good quality in MSFS 2024, especially with the new Citation update, but cover a lot of categories of aircraft that JetCard has, such as “super-mid” or “VIP”. The BAe146 has had a new lease of life due to its niche role in that roster, and I had forgotten how much I actually love that jet. Did some rudimentary livery logo-ing, but I’m still a couple of levels short of where I will set up my own company rather than fly freelance. The individual job descriptions in JetCard are great and do make you feel a sense of purpose, although the corporate speak (“the team will walk the project” etc) and mentions of “superyacht repositioning” require a lot of effort at keeping a straight face.

The next three on the list are for when I do casual flying, and the standout in that part is definitely the Albatross. The Commander is also great, and not necessarily better than the Caravan, but just more in use right now because it fits the brief of flying without too much advance planning a bit better.

Finally, I’m including the two A2A offerings simply because I still think that they have probably the nicest flight model(s), and would wholeheartedly recommend those as purchases even though I’ve been flying other aircraft a lot more in recent months.

The future:

Still determined to get the JF Fokker 70/100 in mid-October and start flying regional/FIFO routes during the Australian summer. Hoping for maybe another update by then after the one that came out this week, because it seems from most reports that there are still some flaws. The F100 thread on this forum here is very quiet for such a recent release I reckon, and that maybe reflects some users’ disappointment at the choice of engines that were modelled and so on. Also quite a bit of money, but I’ve been budgeting for this for some time now.

In late September I will also have enough Xbox rewards points again to buy the GF Taylorcaft more or less for free. I wasn’t going to spend money on it because taildraggers normally don’t appeal to me much, but then again maybe this will be as enjoyable as the old BBS Bird Dog while having way better visuals and features. We’ll see whether it pushes out the Vixxen as the favoured bush plane.

If the A2A Cessna 172 is out in time for the summer holidays, I might buy that (pending reviews) and maybe do a lap of Australia in it.

In March next year, it will be time to spend big again on what I’m confident will by then be a mature version of the Synaptic A220, in time for the Air Baltic northern summer timetable.

And further down the track, a Global 6000 from ini would be nice if I’m still using JetCard, plus perhaps the WT Praetor.

No changes for August.
Alphabetical by developer…

Assuming this is the AzurPoly – Dassault Rafale C?

And the BS Bonanza is the “Pro” one?

Yes indeed!

*And here is my co-pilot in the A-32 Vixxen. His name is Fenton.

That’s 11 mate, literally. Commander added so, what’s coming off?

Sorry! I have edited my post to correct it.

Thanks! The Jaguar has leapt off

Last month I did a GA-only list, saying I’d do all airliners this month. Revising a bit, with mostly airliners, but throwing a couple of bizjets and one GA.

  • BKSQ Commander - Have about 30 hours in the turbonormalized version, mostly flying VOR only.
  • PMDG 737-800 - Still my go-to airliner.
  • Fenix A320 - Flying its baby A319 brother as I type this list
  • TFDi MD-11 - just did a group flight with my Fedex VA. Elite-level plane
  • PMDG 777-200
  • JF Avro RJ - hopped in this yesterday, hadn’t flown it in 2-3 months. Still a lot of fun with lots of overhead switches to keep me busy
  • JF F28 - My favorite old-school airliner.
  • INI A350
  • FSR Phenom 310
  • Skyward Citation Sovereign

Underdogs :

Difficult to find any really good ones, but here’s one. I imagine Baracus has put a lot of time into setting up this thread, and, also in support of young Developers trying to get into the market I’m putting this one forward as a high standard Underdog :

Smaug Stol : freeware

2 variants, one STOL and the other a Seaplane. I am impressed with the quality of both and well worth downloading and giving a fly.

Swappable Nav systems; Beta range for short landings; water anchor; Doors come off; operational leading edge slats….

My recommendation, use no flaps on take off and -10 on trim.
Will cruise as slow as 30 kts or as high as 200 kts.

So, in support of Baracus, and keeping this thread alive, put one each in?

My top 10 aircraft for August:

  • Pilatus PC-12 NGX: Still a gold-standard for career flying and world exploration for me, kind of the ideal aircraft. Although, the supposedly too smooth and docile handling does make me wonder about SWS’s PC-12, but it’s money I don’t yet wanna spend to find out.

  • Pilatus PC-24: Back in my good graces, after I got frustrated with its seemingly too high stall speed for the “ultra-versatile jet”. I learned to accept it for now and I just like it in every other respect. Can do anything the the PC-12 can but 100 knots faster. I really like PIlatus craft in general and I hope they get more love and attention to detail in the sim.

  • Piaggio P180 Avanti (FlightFX): It remains my favourite payware plane and also my favourite twin turboprop business plane. I’ve praised it here before for the many great things about it. I’m also excited about the next variant of the real thing being a dedicatet STOL utility plane. It already is STOL in my book, but I haven’t dared the short unpaved strips that I would with the PC-12 yet.

  • Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX: Always liked this classic craft, but with the new bush trips activity I learned to appreciate it again in the Austrian mountains. Even more versatile than a Pilatus, it flies like a dream at low speeds and in difficult terrain.

  • CubCrafters Monster NXCub (Got Friends): I’ve been bush flying more in world photography mode to look for elusive wild animals on Xbox low settings. Love what they did with the Cub and I do prefer nose gear to tail draggers. Also I just found out about the nitro and I definitely need to test that next time.

  • Saab 340B: My favourite regional airliner. Low-wing turboprop with nice handling and speed, probably my favourite twin-turboprop after the Avanti.
Bigger airliners won’t make it onto the list becaues I resolved to properly learn Airbus systems before flying them again.

  • Falco F8L (Echo Simulations): Favourite new piston-engine GA airplane. Behaves nicely and is fun to fly.

  • Cessna 400 Corvalis TT: Second-favourite GA single-piston engine. A great allrounder.

  • Savoia-Marchetti S.55: As historic seaplanes go, this one was even more exciting an experience than the also excellent Latecoere 631, so it gets the spot here.

  • Cirrus Vision Jet G2: Another career mission favourite for its versatility. Also still impressed by making the single jet turbine concept work.
