==== THIS WEEKS TOP 10 ====

====== MY SUMMARY ======

The PMDG has pushed the beloved Kodiak down a further step. Didn’t see that one coming! Other than that no huge changes.

Three new entries this week:

  1. Hot Air Balloon by HPG
  2. Cessna 195 Businessliner by Asobo/Carenado
  3. Leonardo M-346 by IndiaFoxtEcho

The only one of those that got into the weekly Top 10 was the M-346.

For me there’s been a lot of frustrating fiddling and testing this week :frowning: first a plague of bad (looked like offline) tile textures that I’ve been trying to figure out then spent hours updating various stuff and further time trying to figure why my controller suddenly stopped being seen. It was Steam Calibrations fault. First time I’ve tried to use it to rectify a dead zone problem with my sticks but it just ended up completely not detecting it next time I booted up and now it won’t calibrate to full ranges in one direction. Absolute nightmare… :frowning:

Before the troubles I did a very beautiful flight from Graz, Austria in the Spitfire (LOWG - LOGK - LOGT - LOXA - LOGO - LOWZ). Highly recommend it for the views!!

Spent fair bit of time in the Tiger Moth. Very enjoyable plane and full of character and JanKees has made some wonderful skins for it so quickly! He’s a machine :slight_smile:

Continued my journey in the C414, reached Guatemala (MGGT) but Mexico still seems a distant land from here, let alone Canada. :slight_smile: I missed the WU by a large margin but from what I’ve read it’s not great anyway.

Took the Ryan ST-A for a few PG sightseeing flights. It’s a lovely lively plane but caught me out a few times when I wanted to double back tightly to see a POI. Falls out the sky quite easily (but I was being stupid). I think I tend to pick this when I can’t decide what else to fly as it’s in the first slot in the hangar screen!

Revisited the Concorde. Frame rate since SU10 Nano VG mode is terrific now. Wish it had automated engineer to handle the fuel transfer system. I think it’s that at least but the thing is always screaming alarms at me even when I think the CoG meter says I’m safe. Maybe it’s overspeed but that doesn’t make sense either as I’m going below 400 sometimes and it’s going off. As you can tell I’m not doing anything by the book but it’s very satisfying eyeballing a landing with that high AoA and nose down! Anyway this is definitely the sort of airliner I could get into now that it’s not so sluggish to use on my system, so might make myself some bedtime reading of the manual and learn this one properly!!

Bought the HPG Hot Air Balloon and it’s a great creation but you gotta have the time to go with the flow, literally. My speed ranged from under 4 to max 16km/h. I just did a little flight and took me over an hour to go not very far from where I started (4km), partly coz the wind eventually took me in a sort of semi-circle. Ended up just spinning around on the spot one way then suddenly the other way, so not quite sure what happened but seems to react this way when ground speed is zero. Certainly ain’t getting around the world in 80 days in this haha. I love how you can spawn a bunch of floating friends. Need to have another go today.

Also bought the PAC P-750 after a debate with myself. It behaves pretty well actually, definitely not on rails and I think it’s a fair price for the package with a lot of variants which all look really really good. Really can’t fault it much. Flies nice, takes off nice, lands nice - ground handling is a bit suspect, first flight I did it was really nice taxiing but every flight since it seems to only want to turn if you’re doing walking pace.

Definitely lives up to the “EXTREME Short” label. It’s extremely capable and I was managing to get it down and back up again in some really tight and uneven places - lot of fun! Engine Instrumentation is all mainly bespoke and interesting hybrid between LED analogue lights but a digital readout which I’ve not seen outside of gliders I think. It’s a bit awkward to read at a glance but it’s unique.

I wonder if this is a sub-contract not actually developed by Orbx. Seems unlikely they can lift their game so much with only their second plane as I understand their Optica is pretty basic and not so great? However, it’s up against some pretty stiff competition of similar planes. Biggest negative is there doesn’t seem to be any engine damage at all. I ran it in the reds for ages and nothing bad happened. Also the tablet is rather empty. Would’ve been better as an iPhone! I do hope they add the promised missions that make use of those interesting variants!! Maybe that’s what’s going to go on the tablet!

EDIT: just noticed that the cargo variant uses a joystick instead of a yoke and they’ve modelled that differently - - very cool.

EDIT 2: I must be losing the plot. They are all joystick controls. I was probably flying something else with a yoke just before and got confused!
