I always forget about this, so my passengers are always freezing or burning up!
I think the temperature situation is odd in simulation. IRL youād feel the temperature, simply pause and say āitās getting too cold/hotā and adjust accordingly. Since we canāt feel temperature in the sim, and our eyeballs are glued on everything else in the cockpit, the cabin temp warning goes unnoticed. Iām ashamed to say that on my last flight, I allowed the cabin temperature to plummet to 4 degrees F. Good thing my simulated hands remained thawed.
Exactly. It doesnāt really effect anything so Iām never too concerned about it.
Is that a cue for me to find your previous post and use that for March? ![]()
Nah, Iāve posted a March list a little while ago. I just donāt want to change that list after it has already been posted.
Except if your plane features a passenger comfort index! I havenāt turned that bit of realism on yet, but I might try it sometime. I think Iād be busted for excessive turn angles and descending too fast. Those are things that youād also feel more viscerally IRL. Also lots of swerving to try and stay on the needle.
Yea pretty scary, huh? Itās flown by (oops, pun honestly not intended there. Honestly!).
Thanks for your write-ups!!
The only one in your list I donāt yet have is that Bonanza A36. Itās so close now to the Warrior (which I bought cheap and havenāt flown yet) and Arrows, that Iām just gonna try and resist for a little longer
Prove to myself that I can do it!
That location is so perfect for Willy Racing. Will definitely hold another round there soon. Want to check out the other courses too.
Yeah definitely a bargain price!! But then you did mention the free C152 lol. We are spoilt for choice now really. Happy to have more always though!
Did you get the Boris SFX addon? If not, you really should!
Would be awesome if some hardware company made a little localised temperature control unit that could link with the game and we feel the temps change. Whilst at it, add a smell generator so we can smell hot oil, smoke, fresh cut grass, ocean etc ![]()
Iām sure one day that will all be standard you can buy from any PC store like a mouse or headphones.
Ah yea, sorry! Lost track ![]()
Iām totally in for another Wanaka round! As far as the A36 goes, I can understand holding off on adding new planes, to spend time with ones you already have. When you finally do find room in your hangar, I highly recommend the Black Square Bonanza. Itās in a class by itself, a superbly visually rendered model with an impeccable flight model. From what I can see in simulation, IRL the performance of the actual Bonanza puts it into a class by itself. Those waypoints just creep right up on you!
Get out of my brain!! A little temperature changing wristband maybe. I LOVE the idea for smellovision, I think the olfactory realm will be the most difficult technology to deliver but I am hopeful that weāll get it one day.
I posted about this some months ago but canāt find it now. But, it was happening, did happen, as long as 12 years ago if you search for PC game smell generator. Seems that company didnāt survive but just 2 years ago there was this:
I suppose the hurdle is there will need to be specific triggers / APIās or whatever built into the games by developers so to get traction it would need enough top developers to be interested to spend the extra time adding triggers for an audience that doesnāt yet exist. Catch 22!
Yea it was epic! So cool to have had THE GOT GRAVEL flying with us too, as the creator of my favourite plane I felt more than a little star-struck ![]()
He is also going to join us this Sunday for my next Wilga Bush Racing event at Hollywood Hills if anyone is interested to join in the fun and didnāt see my post in the community flights section here, Iāll do a little bit of shameless self promotion with this link ![]()
In hindsight it perhaps is a little expensive. Good system depth and very well modelled cockpit, but no opening doors, chocks, pitot covers, rendered pax, luggage, etc⦠and only a tweaked FM (which may be accurate enough, I wouldnāt know) with default external model and sounds.
If you already own a high-fidelity single prop then it may not be such a āmust buyā.
Not to mention the failures implementation. I was struggling to taxi straight yesterday and was scratching my head checking my rudder pedals and getting frustrated until it suddenly clicked and I checked the wear and tear and my left brake pad was entirely worn out and binding every few seconds.
Anyone a fan of the SWS RV-10 or RV-14?
I tried the freeware RV-7 on fs.to and really liked it. Itās got a fantastic view and is super fast (will cruise @ 180kts IAS) but lands slow, so you can get in and out of small airports. Seemed perfect for sight seeing, but was looking at something payware with a bit more quality, hence the SWS Vanās planes.
I own both of them. If you like light sports aircraft that are easy to fly, have glass cockpits and auto-pilot, great visibility all around, and reasonably powerful, then I think youāll like them. I personally prefer the RV-10 because I prefer stability over acrobatics. But theyāre both good.
Thanks for the input on the Bonny. I do have a few āsimilarā and really love flying the WB C172 so pretty happy having just that for this type of plane. Although, I know the Bonny is faster and has more stuff in the cockpit, most of which Iām unlikely to use. Failures can be fun āwhen you arenāt really gonna die!ā but Iām mainly interested in flight model feel and the sounds which are probably not the focus of that enhancement so much. You know even at the price it is now, when (if) Boris does a sound mod for it, that will have to be purchased too so makes it a Ā£40 plane in the end (probably). Also waiting for the A2A Comanche.
The Arrow pack is one of the first things I bought and flew a lot but havenāt touched it for a long while. Interested to see how it turns out after the patch, and get some of my moneys worth out of the Warrior ![]()
Both really excellent. Different enough to each other to warrant having both. I like the 10 as I recently bought the Sky4Sim premium and that is fully integrated on the 10 (one of only 4 aircraft that has it done in a virtual tablet so far) but I put SWS at the very top of the pile in terms of how they create flight physics and a natural, organic feeling in all their aircraft. They seem to have some magic dust they can sprinkle on the code that most other devs have not found.
I like the 14 a lot too, which also comes with a tail dragger variant.
But everyone is sleeping on the STREAM ultralight by LightSim. Iāve mentioned it several times and only this month have I seen it appear in a top 10 list for the first time ever. For sight seeing at some speed itās really good. Manoeuvrable like the RV14, handles well like the Sting S4, and as itās narrow body tandem seating you have much better and equal view out of left and right. Bubble canopy so no obstructions. Worth a look but definitely get a Vans too ![]()
Does it have that magic dust that SWS has (well put btw)?
Looks quite cool. Similar performance.
Iām leaning toward the RV-14 because I enjoy a bit of aerobatics when sight-seeing, and Iām very impressed with my other SWS planes!
I wouldnāt compare it to the magic and subtlety of SWS handling, but it is waaaay above average and definitely well done. It feels good, not on rails and has good inertia and a nice flow to it.
It gets knocked around as it is so small and light so you need to stay on it and fly it / correct it constantly (not tried in SU12 yet tbh). Feels convincing for this kind of plane but what do I know ![]()
I rate it same as the Sting for quality of the handling and a tad below for texturing. It has none of that failures or extra bells and whistles though, where the Sting really shines. Just a good simple and unique plane IMO.
