Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

Lush! I gotta figure out a way of doing that… next project lol. It never ends
Thanks for sharing! Looks really nice man!

When you fly with a collective, everything changes. It sounds cliche but it is very true!

The problem I have is my chair is almost touching my side table that my throttle sits on. If throttle was any further left it would be awkward to reach.

This is top view - see the arm of the chair; no gap. This is lined up with the chair centred on my yoke so not much wiggle room. I need a plan!

You need space. And you need to replace that glass with a bottle of some sort .

Necessity is the mother of all invention. Get the collective and you will find a way to mount it!

Hehe yeah, I totally go with that approach to life
A shuffle here a nudge there. Everything is compact in my little corner anyway. Japanese would be proud of me!!

Not getting it yet. I’ve spent enough on hardware (and software lol) recently but could be a contribution towards Xmas gift, coz I’m hard to buy for. I always just get things. I suffer from a “Lack of patience” syndrome

Old list :

  1. Black Square Analog King Air
  2. Black Square Analog Caravan
  3. Blackbird PC-6 Porter
  4. Asobo Cessna 152
  5. Carenado Cessna 170B
  6. Asobo Robin DR400
  7. Carenado Bonanza V35
  8. SimWorks Studios Kodiak 100
  9. Iris PC-21
  10. Flying Iron F6F-5 Hellcat

New list, with a new number one!

  1. JPL Cessna 152 ( fairings ) : I am a noob. For letting this one go unflown for so long, while everybody was raving about it. It’s basically your own little plane. This standard of modeling is an example for every developer. The tablet could be a touch larger.
  2. Black Square Analog King Air : Still the big dog in my collection ( it’s not that big, all the other dogs are simply smaller )
  3. Flying Iron Spitfire MkIX : Jetting around Duxford with the boys in this one. Once you know how to fly it, it’s still very hard. Concentration is key on take-off and landing. It bounces. You try your best, and hopefully Volanta shows only one landing dot.
  4. SimWorks Studios Kodiak 100 : If only the displays were a bit sharper in VR. Or do I need prescription inserts? Crept ahead of the Caravan due to issues with the Caravan.
  5. Black Square Analog Caravan : Still great but been having issues with it recently. Autopilot, cabin temp, … Seems to be affected by some update.
  6. Azurpoly Fouga : It’s an awesome rendition of this legendary airplane. One of the “this feels real” planes in the sim.
  7. Carenado Cessna 170B : Still a lovely plane. Since the JPL 152 it kind of shows its lack of systems depth. For example : the engine always starts.
  8. Carenado Bonanza V35 : Another victim of the JPL 152. Thinking about replacing this with another fast GA. Milviz 310, Black Square Bonanza, …
  9. Flying Iron F6F-5 Hellcat : A cool warbird, and unlike the Spitfire, it actually wants you to fly it.
  10. Asobo Robin DR400 : Dropped to 10 because of the JPL 152.

Others :

  • Blackbird PC-6 Porter : Sits in the hangar. The beta mode issues have ruined this plane for me. How can it work and then two days later not work? Finicky.
  • Iris PC-21 : Should fly this more but I am going back to basics with warbirds, post-war stuff and small GA.

Thanks for the update
Don’t agree with your statement that the Spitfire “doesn’t” want you to fly her though

Same here! Glad it’s not just me, but I want to fly it and this puts me off coz you can’t use it properly. Still flies great without that but you can’t be as daring in picking your short challenging landing sites so it kills the purpose a bit for me. Luckily we have plenty of other aircraft to keep us busy, huh?

Replace the chair arm with a custom attached side mount that attaches to both the throttle and collective.

Custom, as in make it myself? Or are there such products?

I know exactly what you mean. Long ago my wife told me, “you are on your own as far as gifts go” because there was no way she could figure out what I would want next for this strange hobby of mine!

Agree. It’s a masterpiece.

But speeds don’t match published figures (too slow).

Which is a shame because otherwise it’s top 10.

I just realized that it’s been a number of months since I’ve last entered a monthly top 10. :frowning:

My last ballot was post #4167 (Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft - #4167 by OneMoreBulleit)

My June 2023 ballot is as follows:

A new favorite - My love of aviation started as a child of the 1970’s with WWII warbirds. Fighters, bombers, transport, cargo, reconnaissance, training, etc. I built models of all the great ones. American. British. German. Japanese. You name it. I hung them from my bedroom’s ceiling with fishing line and staples. A dog fighting diorama that I can envision still today.

  • FlyingIron BF 109-G6 - I’m an American. The BF 109 is the “bad guy’s” plane. And boy… do I love it!! On my very first flight - just a few hours after release - I managed a successful takeoff from an airfield near Antwerp. (Don’t recall the exact airfield.) I taunted France, then flew towards England with the goal of visiting the Cliffs of Dover and landing somewhere nearby. Almost immediately upon entering British territory, another player in a FlyingIron Spitfire rolled up along side. We flew in silent formation for a few seconds before a wing wag signaled, “game on!” A mock dog fight ensued. I had the advantage for a bit. Then he. Me again. He got on my six and I couldn’t shake him. I tried some ill-advised maneuvers and ended up in a spin. Recovered. Surley, I’ve lost my agressor. No! He’s still on my tail. Needless to say, the Spit (rightfully) got the better of me and I relented with an “OK, you got me” slow and level flight. We flew in formation for a few a minute or two before I noticed the “Dude! You’ve no more fuel!” light had illuminated. I found the nearest airfield and managed a sucessful landing. My adversarial wingman did a few high speed passes overhead, of which I watched in 3’rd person auditory Merlin bliss. He eventually landed and pulled up along side.

My first flight in the 109… My best multi-player VR experience to date in MSFS 2020. Can’t wait for my next best experience!

New additons.

  • Cowan Simulations 500E - This is the one helicoptor design that speaks to me. I don’t know why. Perhaps its the Magnum PI wannabe personna or the “I’m LAPD” mindset. For whatever reason, it’s my helicoptor of choice right now.
  • Big Radials Noorduyn Norseman - Yep… another bush plane. What can I say? I really love vintage 1930’s - 1940’s era planes on floats and navigating the Pacific Northwest / Alaskan coastline. RTMM is a must have addon for this, my favorite, place on earth to fly.
  • PMDG 737-800 - Yikes! A comercial jetliner. Honestly… I’m not a fan of complicated tubeliners. I prefer a simpler, less complicated life. I broke down and purchased this aircraft after a real life trip on which I decided: “If I’m on a 737-something, I’ll buy PMDG’s version when I get home.” I’ve flown the tutorial flight a couple times now to learn the systems. Each time has had a successful take off and landing, however, I’m sure my passengers may not have been pleased with various phases of the flight. Anyway… I see why this is such a highly regarded aircraft in MSFS and it has inspired me to learn (eventually) how to fly her properly.

Still flying regularly.

  • FlyingIron Simulations F6F Hellcat - Revisted the F6F recently after the BF 109 release to remind myself that this is FlyingIron’s second best aircraft. Although… perhaps… their Spitfire and P-38 Lightning are equally as good.
  • Got Friends PZL-104 Wilga 35/80 - I LOVE this aircraft. I especially like participating in the Wilga Bush Racing Series hosted by @Baracus250. Now that it is summer, I can’t participate as much as much as I’d wish. but… Autumn / Winter is coming soon and I’ll have a lot more free time on my hands on the weekends.

Old friends - To be brutally honest, I haven’t flown these birds in a quite while, but I know they are still among my favorites.

  • //42 FreedomFox / Fox2
  • Ant’s Airplanes Tiger Moth
  • Blackbird Simulations DHC-2 Beaver (w/ GotFriends Expansion Pack)
  • Blackbird Simulations C310

A bit too new to add to my list this month.

  • GotFriends DoubleEnder - I just picked her up today and completed a lengthy trip through my favorite Idaho bush strips. Yep! She’s pretty dang good and I’m sure she’ll be on my top 10 in the months to come.

There are definitely complete sim chairs with all sorts of mounting arrangements, not sure if anything is available to replace the normal arm on an existing chair that might be weekend project I suspect.

hello Baracus and everyone !

here’s my June Top 10 list (the aircraft (in fact heli) strikethrough is from my May top list

1. Black Square Analog Caravan 208: I loved the Asobo EX version, which I flew a lot during 2022, but the BS steam gauge version is a big step up and a joy to fly VOR to VOR with all its gauges and needles acting realistically. Considering its high capacity and ceiling, it’s a must-have when starting a career in FSEconomy or any other platform.

2. Black Square Beechcraft 350 King Air: I guess it’s a nice transition to jets. It has a large capacity and range. I wasn’t used to the default B350, which I never really flew, but having this level of details is very engaging for learning an aircraft. It’s very nice to fly, and I love the ability to fly without the glass cockpit and rely only on some Collins and KNS80 instruments. The texturing gives the feeling of being in the middle of a photo !

3. WeptBurrito Cessna 172 enhancement mod: Like with the Black Square aircraft, having engine damages add so much to the immersion and requires flying by the book! also hat off for the eye candy detail added like engine & pitot cover, shocks and propeller blade braking template.

4. Cessna C414 by Flysimware: I really love all the meticulously modeled details and the overhaul work done on it. However, I do have some regrets about the texturing not being as high-quality.

5. Blackbird DHC2 Beaver: retro look <3, dislike its low speed.

6. Black Square Bonanza: I love its agility, allowing for long flights with tip tanks. Having those random failures is a very good point (with a rate of x4 or x8!) as it requires staying aware throughout the entire flight and learning how to manage them with many checklist including abnormal procedure, very nice touch from Black Square !

7. C152 JPL by Weptburrito: (again) It’s a nice aircraft to learn the basics (and it’s free!!!) with a great flight model. Having various avionics setups makes it a much better aircraft than the stock one.

8. ̶B̶e̶l̶l̶ ̶4̶0̶7̶ Scrapyard: Although fictional and hard to handle on the ground, it’s very fun to fly and fits well for aerobatics and flying at treetop level. This free aircraft obviously required a lot of work and received a lot of love from Lord Frites (its developer). It also comes with a float version for more adaptability.

9. FBW A320NX: I’m starting to learn airliners and tried the stock one. While it’s nice to have many inoperative switches to avoid being distracted by minor features and focus on the essentials, it quickly becomes boring. Thanks to FlyByWire for allowing me to discover the airliner’s systems in depth! If I don’t get weary too early, I might consider investing in a Fenix model, although I’ve heard it has some FPS impact, can’t wait to see their A380 !!!

10. Black Square Baron: Well, I must admit I don’t fly it that much, but every time I take it for a flight, it’s pretty good! I’m really fan of those gauges animated by VOR degradation and inertia. The panel is very similar to the Bonanza, although the flight model is heavier and less flexible. It allows for faster travel, and in my opinion, it’s still fresh and needs a bit more time to mature. I’ve heard that JD has made a lot of progress, so I’ll wait and see for future updates. It’s just sad that it can’t carry more people in.

I’m not going to spiral off either, and it’s not 100% anyone’s fault - the SDK is paritally to blame by suggesting devs do wrong things! I respect GG a lot but there are areas he needs to work on too, no-one’s nailed everything yet ( and I certainly haven’t either ). But, if you get in a Cub or something & fly around slow it’s not got the fast twitch response or the tightly damped feeling you get in our planes, and that really matters to me - more so in bush planes & aerobatic ones. I get the feeling that the engine would probably let us get very close if we could find the right parameters, and I wish there was more detailed documentation about what it’s actually doing under the skin.

FI 109, another very near miss! I’d still recommend buying it if you like the type of plane, it’s lurking with the Hellcat just under my absolutely recommendeds. Managing it is a full time occupation though, it’s certainly not a simple thing like a Spitfire.

There is nothing that grabs me like that FI Spitfire.
I’m looking at getting the Authentikit setup just to enjoy the Spitfire more.
I have a friend at BBMF who has offered to host me in a visit, so I can get a good look at their SimPit, I just need to find the time now.

I picked up some stuff from monstertechusa for exactly this. They don’t require a sim chair, as they have mounts that can attach to any chair. The way it works is you remove the arm, and then attach the bracket WITH the arm, if that makes sense. Basically, the bracket is sammiched between the arm mount and the chair. Then there’s all kinds of attachments and such from there, but that’s how most of them mount up.

Thanks for the tip. I’m gonna have to do some deeper research see if there is anything like this on this side of the pond that’s guaranteed to work together with the Virpli and my chair, or get a new chair as well. Might end up building a new house around a helicopter cockpit at this rate though
