Thanks for the update and I appreciate the little texts describing your reasons.
MilViz Cessna 310 absolutely rocking it this week! Average score so far is 4.13 with 8 votes. Beating previous best of the Wing42 Boeing 247D (4.00 average) by a little margin.
Agreed, and the âlittle brotherâ Islander! Iâve sent a ticket in at Walker Air Transport (VA) to see if we can get the Trislander added to the fleet there.
I am probably going to pick this up soon as well along with the 310. Itâs such a quirky plane and I donât really have anything to fill this role yet. So many great aircraft released in the past couple weeks.
Current Top 5
1 Asobo Cessna 208 (with several Freeware Mods)
2 Just Flight Arrow III (I specifically mean the non-turbo)
3 Milviz Pilatus Porter PC-6
4 Asobo Diamond DA 62 (with Freeware Mods)
5 Oliver Mosers Junkers Ju52
The top 10 is interesting. Shows the mighty rise of the MilViz Cessna 310B this week. It has had the strongest start Iâve seen so far, straight into the Top 25! A lot of people threw it straight to the top of their lists with a 4.13 average score.
Some movement at the top now. But Kodiak has stretched out more of a lead again ahead of the Arrows.
Goose had a good week too and is catching the podium positions!
Iâve added a row for total participants and total planes at the top and some more stats at the bottom of the main chart PDF download (didnât put it all at the top as it takes a fair bit of space).
That Kodiak just keeps hanging on in there. Only 2 more to make 100 in the list, PMDG 737 still to go but I see the Fenix A320 is already in there. I wonder if there should be a rule it has to be publicly available to be allowed in the list? Fenix doesnât even have a release date yetâŠ
Side note: Wow the pressure on PMDG. Everyone is expecting the 737 to gain the top spot but man, those expectations are huge and if they donât deliver perfection out of the gate, look out! I also wonder if the price point will keep the user numbers small enough to keep other modules like the Kodiak still competitive on this list just with sheer numbers. Should be fun to watch and as always B.A., you have done a great job with this!
Yea, with the 737 I expect people that buy it will score it high but numbers overall wonât be enough to hit the top 3 or even top 5 here. Will be fun to see as you say!
Interesting to look at the data that makes up the âHottest 10 Aircraftâ chart.
My takeaway on the C414 and the Boeing 247D is that the âbloom is off the rose.â Why?
The C414, while good, is not great. I personally enjoy it quite a bit, but I think the rapid release of both updates and hotfixes has hurt the model overall. In particular, the flight dynamics and engine modelling have both degraded from the initial releases. I am currently reverted to 1.6.2 and will wait to hear reports of the next upgrade before jumping off again.
The Boeing 247D is simply too fiddly for many people. Again, I personally enjoy fiddling with accurate systems modeling. To date I think the DC-6 by PMDG has done the best job in that regard. The 247D is very difficult to actually fly without proper control bindings. I havenât tried it in VR yet (that might help) but so far Iâve limited my flights to local excursions. Clearly, this is not everyoneâs cup of tea.
I am a little surprised that the excellent RV-14 and 14-A havenât gotten more love. The model is priced at a very affordable level, and is beautifully done. It is fast and agile, and lands easily. Maybe just a bit too much of a niche model?
As always, great job @Baracus250 - thanks so much for the effort and for starting this great thread.
I agree. I also enjoy fiddling with accurate systems modeling. But thatâs the rub, if the modeling doesnât work accurately, the enjoyment falls off rapidly. Hopefully the 247 will get some improvements and correct the issues that hold it back from where it could be.
