Not really. Volkswagen wasn’t up front about gaming emission controls. We don’t know what the final sim will look like, and won’t for at least a year.
I used to work as a manager for Harvey Norman, an Aussie Electrical/Furniture chain. When we had sales on for something like lounges we would order in special look-alike versions of things like sofas and lounges with thinner fabric, less support etc. Customers would assume the sale catalogue ones were identical to the normal full priced one on the floor but they were not, they just LOOKED the same.
or longer!
You can certainly say that again, and we should be grateful for the genuine efforts behind the scenes to constantly improve the immersive experience for all of us.
I like the 700 variant, I think the combination of performance and range is perfect. Since I do a lot of legacy flights, I also fly the 800 variant more often.
Time really flies! I can’t believe I posted my last list in May. Here are my current Top 10 aircraft. After playing FSX for 10 years it feels strange to say this after only playing MSFS2020 for 2 years, but this might be my last list for MSFS2020 (depending on how well MSFS2024 will run next month).

Flying Iron’s Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8
It was the aircraft I was most looking forward too since the release of the Bf-109. Visually and texture wise it’s Flying Irons best aircraft so far. Initially I preferred the flying characteristics of the Spitfire and Bf-109, but over the weekend after its release it has really grown on me and it’s the aircraft, I currently use by far the most. Originally, I thought the ground handling might be a bit too easy, especially considering that there have been at least 5 ground loop accidents with Flugwerk Fw-190 reproductions over the last 15 years. It just seemed to track straight after touchdown. It may sound stupid, but I was very happy when it recently ground looped on me, seemingly out of the blue, when I touched down in a three-point attitude, accidentally with a bit of forward stick (unlocking the tailwheel) in a slight crosswind.

Inibuilds Lockheed T-33
Since its release the T-33 is by far my favorite jet in the sim. My three favorite jets in real life have always been the F-104, F-86 and T-33. Maybe it’s because we never had a payware quality T-33 in a sim before, but I spend a lot more time with the T-33 than with the F-86 or Starfighter. It just seems like the perfect all-rounder, it’s enjoyable for both aerobatics and straight and level flying. I can’t wait to see what’ll be next for Inibuilds Premier Series.

CAS Piper J-3 Cub
The Cub is one of my favorite aircraft in real life and one I dream of operating one day. I have been lucky enough to take a ride in a friends J-3 a few years ago and have spent a lot of time in the backseat of a 90 hp Pa-18. It’s the perfect aircraft for low and slow summer evening flights, especially with the door open. CAS have captured the Cub perfectly. I can’t think of another aircraft in the sim that feels so alive and immersive. I can not wait to fly it with the improved visuals of MSFS2024.

Flying Iron’s Spitfire Mk IX
The Spitfire is the aircraft I have the most time in in MSFS. In the air it’s just incredibly easy and enjoyable to fly. Real Spitfire pilots often say that you don’t strap into a Spitfire, but that you rather strap it on. Flying Iron have done a fantastic job giving you that feeling in the sim.
-
Flying Iron’s Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6
Real Messerschmitt pilots often say that you can’t really enjoy the aircraft while you’re flying it but rather after you finished a (successful) flight. And that it is one of the most rewarding flight experiences when you get it right. Flying Iron have done another fantastic job conveying that in the game. It’s especially rewarding to do vertical aerobatics maneuvers, when you manage to do them without drifting to one side, or when you manage to land it on a short or narrow runway.

AT Simulations Antonov An-2
The Antonov is by far my favorite aircraft out of the Famous Flyer and Local Legends releases. It has one of the best visual models in the sim, great sounds and is incredibly enjoyable to fly. It’s perfect for sightseeing trips, STOL flying or some elephant dance aerobatics.
-
Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.I
I could also have listed Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.V or Seafire Mk.III, they are all of the same quality and among my favorite aircraft in MSFS. They are perfect copies of the original blueprints and every livery represented in these packages has all the field and factory modifications incorporated the real one would have had. The systems modeling doesn’t come close to Flying Irons Spitfire Mk.IX, but the flight models feels very similar and are also very enjoyable.

SWS Vans RV-8
This is probably my favorite modern plane and even though I normally prefer round gauges I almost exclusively fly the glass cockpit variant. Thanks to AirRhodesia’s awesome Top 10 Photogrammetry Cities thread I have found a ton of new places to explore and the RV-8 is the perfect plane for it.

Inibuilds Saab B-17
The Saab is an aircraft I never expected to see in a sim and especially not at such a high quality. The visual model is stunning and it’s a pleasure to fly. After watching plenty of videos of the recent UK airshow visits of the real Saab B-17, I spent a lot more time with it in the sim again. It’ll be interesting to see if the Saab will be ported over to MSFS2024 as is or if more systems depth will be added to it

Taog’s UH-1H Huey
I’ve now listed all three of Taog’s releases among my favorites. His aircraft seem to get better with every release. In my opinion the Huey is one of the most enjoyable and among the easier helicopters to fly in MSFS….and it’s just the most iconic helicopter ever build.
There are now so many amazing aircraft in the sim that it takes me quite a while to pick ten. So here are just a few more honorable mentions: Beech Duke, Beech 18, Corsair, Hellcat, Lightning, Super Decathlon, Stearman, Ju-52, H-125, R-22, Lama, Alouette, Velocity, everything I have listed here before and so many more.
Sorry for the very long post!
Most excellent post! I learned some things and even got some inspiration. Thanks so much for posting!
Thank you very much for your kind words! Glad the list can be of use =)
You think Microsobo is lying to us the way the rabbit lied?
I think they’ve been quite transparent about the limitations - and more importantly, the purpose of the Alpha release.
Nope, and if I did, I would NEVER have been among the many who pre-ordered FS2024 on the very first day that it was available. November 19th is highlighted on each of my calendars!
Then I have to say, your post comparing the two confused me. But that’s on me I guess. I miss sarcasm sometimes.
Hopefully my last vote before MSFS2024 changes everything … The TL-3000 replaces the Sting S4, like expected. And I once again re-discovered the FlyInside 47G, one of the very first helicopters in MSFS2020. Has been updated several times and still one of the best.
- FlyInside 47G
- Cowansim R22
- FlyInside 206
- HPG H145
- Taog’s Hangar Bell 205 / UH-1H

- A2A Comanche 250
- FSReborn TL-3000
- FSReborn FSR500
I don’t think I want to know how frequently stuff like this happens. I write software for a living and I’ve been fortunate enough to work at companies servicing the pharmacy industry(very, very regulated. Product has to do what it says it does), backcountry outdoor navigation(customers depend on the product to get home safe. If it doesn’t do what it says it does that trust and that customer is gone for good. Product has to do what it says it does.) and now biological research(professional tools for professional scientists doing research. Product has to do what it says it does.) so I’ve never been in a position where I had to feed BS. I don’t think I could do it.

Some huge news in the marketplace dev livestream today. For those of us especially that bought warbirds on marketplace (ie. everyone on xbox) and are missing the weapons, the marketplace policy is changing to allow visible (but still non-firing) weapons. This is true for both 2024 and 2020. Yay for Microsoft listening!
We’d get along well
Won’t someone please think of the children!!!
I think that’s a very welcome policy change.
Hi,
I feel that weapons should not be in MSFS.
If you want to shoot and kill, there are other games like DCS, Il-2 etc. out there.
I do fly in DCS, but only formation aerobatics. I leave the killing to others.
You won’t be able to shoot and kill though….
If a weapon is part of the aircraft then it should be included exactly the same as the windscreen is
It’s the same thing kids see at airshows with no probs
Not going to happen. I’ll parrot the usual response, though:
Buy and learn DCS or IL-2.
