I don’t know though… in some cases it makes more sense than others, like idk the experience of using the various 737s and A320s is, at the end of the day, really kind of the same from the flight deck. PMDG should really at least have a package, I bet it’d get them more sales. Anyway, that aside, especially with PMDG’s kinda out of touch system most people just pick one and that’s it.
But like piston and turbine Dukes or RJ and 146 are very different flying experiences, or upcoming PMDG 747s, clearly the 100 and 400 are different experiences that justify being different models. Besides differences in sales model I think of the 737NGs and A320s to basically be the same thing as all the variants that come with the RJ and 146 each
Thank you for making the lists - very informative and a good overview. A year flies by quickly.
Not to nitpick, but I think the Piper Cub belongs in the vintage category - it did fly a decade before the DC-6
Great work - all the way around! I really enjoy your thread and frequently discover new birds that I wasn’t even aware of before. Lots of fun!
I just can’t help but wonder, though, just how statistically significant this random sample is…
In other words, what would the results look like if the “silent majority” voted?
I’d hope that MS/Asobo could answer that.
@Baracus250 Thank you for everybody’s favorite thread in this forum, and the amazing presentation of the awards lists!!! I remember when the sim was just released and I would buy any payware plane just to support the developers. I had to stop that long ago Hard to believethat 385 different planes have been mentioned since then!
Whoopsie thanks for pointing out the 2 errors. I will correct it asap.
I see the point about the Cub, so maybe it should slot in but it’s not categorised as Vintage in the Charts if you look, and that is what the categories should be based on.
Amazing graphics @Baracus250 ! I am honored to get a tile with only 2 votes. The Cessna T206H is getting rebuilt for MSFS 2024 with many new features so maybe 2025 will be the year more simmers put it in their hangar.
This topic has been one of the most useful for finding the real gems in the sim. Many thanks for your hard work. It takes a lot of dedication to keep this going so well for so long.
Actually this kinda makes me think @Baracus250 is right to change it for the most part. I think the original one makes more sense purely based off quality too, although mainly because of the 737 which is mostly caused by pmdg’s instance on selling all the variants separately. I mean think about it this way, how many people are just saying a320 if they fly all of them some and need room in their top 10, as the 19 and 21 only come as a bundle or expansion everyone with those has the 20. Only people who are deep into the weeds of using the right variant on the right route with the right livery are buying more than one 737ng, the value of the product is in the flight deck and the systems not the exact performance characteristics(plus on paper the performance difference between a 600 and 900 looks huge, numbers aren’t quite so different if you compare the 900 loaded at the 600’s mtow)
HOWEVER, statistically, on the Dukes, the other big one that too me was now not where it deserves, I think is sound. Dukes only came out midway through the year and the 310 that’s in the same category which effectively replaced it on the top of the top list has been a longtime favorite. It took time for people to even have the Duke, 310 still gets voted for consistently. The dukes had the advantage of many people, myself included, voting for them both every month(an advantage the 73x largely lacks). I think statistically in this case not counting both dukes is more sound. Even though I have both and think the Duke is the superior add on.
I write data analytics software and puzzle over little paradoxes like this all day, what am I doing puzzling over it now on Friday night, I’m going to turn off autopilot(on the Duke for the record) and shut down the data analytics brain for the weekend
