Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

Can’t you put an order?!
I really don’t want to give YOUR choices the flat 3 points haha
No worries if you really can’t - 3 each it is  Have a think!

Limited to xbox and my current preference is for vintage (i.e. no computers or just simple gn530) so my current list.

  1. Caproni C22
  2. FlyingIron P38-T
  3. Beechcraft Staggerwing
  4. Blackbox BN-2 Islander
  5. GotFriends Optica

Kodiak 100 is amazing, of course, but I just don’t fly glass cockpits much and will pull that out of the hanger more when there is a NXi fix in SU9

Lol. Can’t you find another 2?
If you like FF so much perhaps GotGravel Savage Carbon? Monster NX Cub with the NOS?

I have 'em as well, nothing comes close to the FF

My Top 5 varies from day to day

Current candidates:

  1. Quest Kodiak 100
  2. JF Piper Warrior
  3. CRJ
  4. AH c140
  5. Staggerwing

This list may well change at a minutes notice, especially once I get my hands on the Boeing 247D, Cessna 414 and the Grumman Goose.

  1. JF Turbo Arrow – just finishing up a tour of US state capitals in this (minus Honolulu, don’t think I can make that one!)
  2. CJ4 w/ WT mod
  3. FBW A320
  4. Caproni C22J – easily best value airplane in the game
  5. DA40-TDI – will always have a soft spot for this one. We spent the first few weeks after the sim’s release touring every airport in Colorado

Honorable mentions to Got Gravel Savage Carbon, Flying Iron P-38 and Spitfire and the steam gauge Cessna 172. So many good planes these days!!

It is interesting how much things change.

My top 5 twelve months ago would have been Jabiru, Piaggio P149, Steam Gauge 172, Bonanza Turbo Mod and Carenado Mooney. They are still excellent aircraft and I still fly most of those but they have been pushed out of my “Top 5” by the newer stuff.

I’ve used an XBox controller for all of my , almost, 800 hours flying. It works great for me.

  1. Got Friends Optica (Bias 4 Sure)
  2. Big Radials Goose (New)
  3. H-145
  4. P-38
  5. Kodiak 100

An update to the Air Charts for today (I decided to show TOP 15 in the snapshots).

CRJ jumped up to position 6 and this was the biggest step I noticed. Freedom Fox also rose a lot (I only counted EnsiFerrum’s once for 5pts!!).

Arrows and Twotter swapped positions at the top but the Kodi is stretching a lead… can it ever be beaten!?

Quite a few new entires at the bottom of the table (62 unique now). I feel like a Radio DJ doing the singles charts lol

  1. HPG H145 - amazing project, good systems depth and easy to fly with FBW-like controls
  2. RSP R44 (Freeware) - flies like I imagine a helicopter should, challenging but manageble, beautifully modelled
  3. BR Goose - currently on the included bush trip, very enjoyable
  4. //42 Kitfox - wonderful bush plane, great visibility, nice handling, wish the avionics were better
  5. SC F-16 - all my other favorites are very slow, so this is what I fly when I feel the need for speed

I’d like to fly the Twotter as IRL it’s one of my favourite aircraft, still waiting for it to appear so I can get it for the Series X (may be waiting a while unfortunately haha). That and the DC-6, I’m chomping at the bit to try. Oh and the JF Arrows.

Not sure I can put these in any kind of order so just my current top five:

  • Just Flight Hawk T1 - Looks and sounds fantastic, fun and challenging and just a sheer joy to fly.

  • SWS Kodiak 100 - A very finely crafted aircraft but has a fantastic flying experience to back it up. Something naturally organic about how it handles.

  • Aerosoft Twin Otter - One of my all time favourite aircraft and certainly got off to a rocky start in MSFS but wasn’t as bad as many made out and seems to be heading in the right direction.

  • Just Flight Warrior - Could just as easily be one of the Arrows but I think the Warrior feels just a little more accessible for those times when you just want a simple but pure flying experience.

  • Carenado M20R Mooney - One my first and most flown aircraft. Had a few minor issues along the way but still holds up really well today. Great detail, engaging, quick and fun to fly.

The above list is a little temporary as it will be updated for sure in a few weeks by a certain 4 engine aircraft.

For me it’s these right now:

  1. Just Flight Arrow III (the non-turbo version). This one has it all for me. It can do IFR with the complexity that I can manage and is wonderfully modelled. I appreciate full systems modelling even if I couldn’t tell at all if something were wrong. The general consensus is that the Turbo Arrow is better and I suppose I might agree as a recommendaton for others. But for me the normally aspirated Arrow III feels just right.

  2. JPLogistics Cessna 152. Only rediscovered this one a short time ago and it’s just awesome. Never been a fan of the 172 (no offence meant to pregnant whales, but they should stick to the ocean). The 152 has such a cozy small feel to it, just lovely!

  3. Asobo Top Rudder 103 Solo. THE ultimate VR plane. Nothing beats the feeling of sitting on a chair with wings several hundred feet up in the air. It doesn’t get more simple than this systems-wise. My only gripe is that a compass and a fuel gauge would be nice to have.

  4. Jabiru J160. A nice little plane all-round. I particularly like the ones without any GPS. A bit harder to pinpoint why I like it as it has no stand-out features, but it just feels good.

  5. In reality there’s no number 5 that I actually use much, but let’s put the Warrior II here. If you want to go slow but still have full systems modelling it is hard to beat.

Honourable mentions:

V.G.P. PowerSTOL (like the Asobo but with more options. The less refined looks of it are the main reason it doesn’t get used as much.

Big Radials P40B Tomahawk. Really hard to master but that makes it very cool for training. Also I think the P40B is one of the best looking fighter aircraft of WWII.

GotGravel Savage Carbon. Love the idea of it and the STOL performance is awesome. But it feels too “easy” to fly somehow. But obviously everyone should have it anyway, the price can’t be beat

BBS BN2 Islander

Totally biased because this has been my favourite IRL airplane ever since I frequently flew in one during holidays on a North Sea island as a kid. But this rendition is also great in itself because of its docile handling, believable flight model, iconic sound, tons of liveries and FPS-friendliness. Can land just about anywhere and is fast enough – fit for purpose. BBS’s ongoing updates are another big plus (soon to culminate in an upgrade to “study level” as well).

FBW A320NX

The best and most comprehensive plane you can get for free, with a constant stream of improvements, ease of installation, and great features such as tiller steering, pop-out MCDU and excellent flight planning / autopilot with Simbrief integration. As a novice to airliner aviation, I have really enjoyed learning about procedures and systems operation while using the Airbus.

Flying Iron P38

Was attracted by its unusual looks, and bought it after positive reviews despite thinking warbirds wouldn’t really be my thing. However the systems depth, sounds and flight model have made this a really nice plane to fly fast and low over beautiful scenery. I don’t bother with live weather, ACT or GPS when I am in this – just pure enjoyable sunny day flying (after getting through the tricky but satisfying engine start and remembering to latch the canopy so it doesn’t rip off…).

Carenado Mooney Ovation

The first aircraft I bought in MSFS, when I was still naive enough to use the Marketplace. Recent updates (which of course took forever to be released) have again made this one of my faves. Loving the PMS GTN750 integration, the speed brakes on the wings and how fast this thing can travel. The squeaky sound from the gear during taxi is a nice touch. Also sure looks pretty!

Just Flight Arrow

The first product that blew me away with the level of detail possible in today’s flight sims. Even though I mostly favour the Islander for GA trips now, this still gets an outing whenever I want something that feels super realistic to me. Great use of the EFB with state saving, swappable GPS units, and a choice of ratty and not so ratty interiors. JF’s diligence in keeping the model compatible with the various sim updates is a major tick for the Arrow, and the developer’s upcoming Bae146 is highly likely to climb up through this Top Five to the top or near it when it gets released next month.
