An other complain: The aircraft has six seats but in the loadmanager you find only four! Shame.
I found a more realistic (not perfect) experience by applying maximum ‘wear and tear’ in the aircraft options. Of course, this needs to be done every time I load the Baron.
Interesting I’ll have to try that
Do you fly the community improved version? That’s my favorite airplane. If we could only open the doors and windows!
The Baron is also a blast but I have to wonder if it really climbs that fast. I usually use that Bonanza more since I don’t have anything to dual bind the prop control and mixture at the same time.
The Bonanza and Baron feel similar minus the climb rate. But the Bonanza has a little more responsiveness.
Yes I fly the G36 Improvement Project and the Robert Young’s Turbo. Both are great flight models.
I may be wrong but I think the Bonanza and Baron have the same engine. Baron has two of them.
Asobo modifications will not bring in any more revenue. Bottom Line.
Teledyne Continental IO-550-B in the Bonanza and Teledyne Continental IO-550-C in the Baron. The only difference I could find was the C is a bit heavier.
After my latest sims and check stuff I’ll have a look at tackling this one I think. There IS a way to do this…
As a rule I’d tend to agree with you, it’s one of the better default aircraft in the sim, but the lack of proper GPS panel control is a little annoying at times. The autopilot is solid and depending on your level of realism the model is pretty good. I’ve flown it a lot and I’m hoping maybe some better GPS panel support might come.
I’ve been holding out for two study level aircraft, ones I’ve actually flown so can compare, but holy moly you can spend big and make a huge mistake. I’m going to buy the DC3 as I’ve flown it, so would be able to report back as to it’s authenticity maybe in one of the other sections here.
Default aircraft are often terrible, and I’ve been finding workarounds as a little challenge to myself. aout of the box the DA62 is virtually unflyable bujt you can tame it using a combinaton of vertical speed as an autopilot…Go figure!
A relative bought the 737 on release and instantly told me not to. The Daher 930i is another well modelled turbine and it’s just like the real thing, fast and climbs like the real thing too fun to fly if you want a fast single turbine.
I lost a lot of peripheral vision in my left eye after a stroke a couple of years back, so no more real flkying for me now. I set out to create a system that would allow me to max out the settings with prorper controls etc. Just my pedals cost a fortune, but you gert what you pay for I think. \the addition of a 3080TI means I can get high frames with maximum detail and I have already logged over 600 hours since the sim was released.
\\\\\happy flying too!
Thanks to this thread I have been revisiting this aircraft, I must say it’s been enjoyable. I think the new prop physics would really enhance this plane. Maybe they could also fix the left wing light that never turns off too.
I took someone’s suggestion of turning on wear/tear and it does help a bit.
Most things work on her and for a basic stock aircraft it really is pretty decent.
Would have loved to fly the DC3. Unfortunately that’s an expensive type rating for not much use nowadays… Love to hear your feedback.
Maybe one day MSFS will simulate proper tailwheel physics too!
@EbiPilot You can hardly carry them IRL anyway, unless you’re doing a short hop and have either heavy bags or ballast in the nose. That’s a very simple thing to fix though, once we have a usable flight_model.cfg
I’ve enjoyed the Baron in previous FlightSim incarnations, and it was the main reason I went for the deluxe version rather than the standard. Not only does it fly well, but it’s just plain good-looking.
The single engine handling is completely off, thats all I can say with certainty about the Baron.
I’ll admit it’s not my favourite default GA. I like it for its speed to whip across the countryside, but for sightseeing I find it too unstable compared to others. The slightest change in engine power or airspeed needs a total re-trim.
I know that’s true of all aircraft, but the Baron just seems way more fussy.
Having flown a Baron 55 in real life, it’s pretty good. Not great, but better than expected. For some reason it climbs like a turboprop, and the speed “arcs” on the G1000 PFD are incorrect. The standby ASI has correct arcs however.
It’s fast in cruise and slippery on the descent as expected, but the prop drag, which is a big part of the Baron’s flight dynamics, is conspicuously absent, so slowing down is even tougher than it should be, and single engine handling is not good.
Overall, it’s one of the better default aircraft, and the integration with the G1000 NXI makes it a fun and capable IFR cross country machine, it only lacks realism in some areas but not unexpected for a default aircraft.
The default panel looks a bit generic to me, though I’ve not flown one in the RW. Is it fairhfull to the RW Baron?
I agree with you there.
Also, the interior modeling is off-putting to me. The seats in the cabin, for example–where is the leg room? I know it has nothing to do with flying the aircraft but it’s enough to make me prefer better-modeled alternatives.
I find myself flying it quite a lot. The throttle quadrant is almost an exact match for the HC Bravo with the GA levers, which makes it more fun
The interior is pretty much what the real thing looks like. This is the real thing. Looks just like the one in the sim,
The brand new 2022 Baron looks a touch different, as they now have a separate, standalone AP unit vs using the G1000’s onboard AP. And it has a digital backup instrument vs steam gauges.
This is what the new model looks like inside
