Zenith 701 (Sky Jeep) from SimWorks Studios released

msfs-2020
What did they do to the CH701 in version 1.8.0?
This is so unrealistic! I want my 1.7.0 version back!
I own and fly a Zenith CH701 STOL in the real world. Reg # N3777B.
Version 1.7.0 had the power settings/speeds pretty much dialed in for this aircraft running a Rotax 912uls spinning a 3 blade prop in real life. Power settings that I actually use when flying, especially those when flying the traffic pattern were accurate enough to practice ones proficiency and to stay current when the weather sucks. It’s like someone taped its ears back coated it in butter, and put a fuel injected turbo beast in the aircraft. It is a JOKE. Put the flight parameters back where they were in 1.7.0 !
Even if you do not fly a 701 in real life, wouldn’t you rather be flying a true representation of that aircraft? Hell, I tried to delete just the 1.8.0 version from the content manager (āœ“ā€™ed just that one) and it removed both versions! Come on Sim Works Studios…there was NO need to change something that was not broken!
Someone in thread stated (rumor?) that a developer said they put a hi performance 135hp engine in it. Seriously! How irresponsible is that! I only know if 1 person running 130hp UL Power in their 701. 30% of registered 701’s run the 912 80hp, 69% run the S model 100hp. Unless they fix this, this the last Sim Works creation I EVER buy. Good Job SWS

Please add the msfs-2020 or msfs-2024 tag to your post, depending on which sim your post is about.

Sorry, first post here…

Really, no word from the dev on these issues? $30+ to purchase this and they ruined it versus made it better then won’t bother to respond to what they broke. Looks like I avoided paying for garbage :man_shrugging:t6:

Is there any reason why you guys made the plane worse in 1.8?

Would you like to define ā€œworseā€? What is wrong now that wasn’t before?

I cant comment to it being worse BEFORE 1.8.0, but I can say with certainty that they increased the power WAY above what it had been. For those of us who actually own and fly a 701, and use our sims for flying standardized procedures, using power setting that are actualy used in flight, the performsnce changes they made are far from reslistic. As it stands now, I can almost exceed VNE at full power, straight and level. The aircraft deviates from the previous version by 500 to 800 rpm. Thats a big deal.

That does sound unrealistic, and you would clearly know.

It flies more like an F-15, these days! I took it up for a quick look last night and during take-off I was able to go immediately into a nice inside loop after clearing the end of the runway at an altitude of only 100 ft or so AGL. It’s always seemed like a bit of a hot-rod to me, but now it’s quite unbelievable. Power galore! This in FS2024.

So to date, Simworks sent me a cloud link to what they said was an archived copy of V 1.7.0. No, it was still 1.8.0. 135hp beast.
Today I reached out again (5x’s now) to ask them to send the correct version (1.7.2) and fix the power issue on the MSFS2020 marketplace version. The response from ***x at simworks is that ā€œIt Is Not A Priorityā€ …Really? That means as a customer that paid for the new version in GOOD FAITH thinking that I would get an updated version, instead I get an inaccurate. even by sim only pilots. As a customer, this means I am essentially NOT A PRIORITY. I built my sim around the 701 because I own and fly one in the real world. To me, this is about my flight safety. I fly the 701 when the weather sucks, and to keep current with my flight procedures. This is the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced from a software developer. I did not create the problem, they did. All I can recommend at this point is to let them know how you feel via email or their discord.
Fly Safe!

I’m very disappointed the plane is still not officially supported in MSFS 2024. I would consider buying one, especially with a discount for existing customers.

I know this is not ideal but you could use ChatGPT to edit the engine & flight_model .cfg files to make it behave & perform like the actual 701. I have done this to a couple of planes now with great success. All you need to ask chatGPT is something like… Can we make the simworks studios zenith ch710 fly & perform more like the real aircraft using a rotax 912? Then it will think for a while, give you some tweaks to edit in the .cfg files, after this it’s just a matter of testing & tweaking further. If you are a zenith pilot with real world experience then you should be able to get it very close.

Simworks Studios’ capacity seems to be very limited, they can’t support so many products. Their Van’s aircraft are abandoned as well, they only work on the Airvan and the Kodiak 100 (and 900) at the moment. I don’t expect any of their other products to become 2024 native.

Actually it’s a neat idea, I’d suggest attaching the files and using the thinking mode.

It’s a shame we have to do it ourselves, though. I understand they might be busy with more profitable aircraft, but how long would such a small tweak take, honestly? And then make it available in the marketplace for 2024.

I think the biggest issue here is that it’s actually very difficult for developers due to the fact that we have this sim on 3 separate systems PC, Xbox & now PS. This causes many issues & also constraints on a developer & also how they deliver to such a wide audience. I think that is the big issue here, it needs to be a game for the larger audience but the hardcore simulator audience want/need it to be a legit simulator. MSFS is trying to do too much in one package & that is the issue!

A very small number of third party devs (non-MS contracted) have 100% native 2024 planes exist and there is a reason for that. We are one of the few.

Our capacity is limited indeed, but not as much as you believe it to be. The reason we are slow is learning 2024 and making sure we don’t leave loose ends in 2020 - even if 2024 pays the bills.

After all, would you pay for a 2024 version if 2020 was frozen with whatever issues? I would not. Notes that we don’t just sell these, we want to enjoy them too and bugs don’t help.

I don’t think it’s at all accurate to say anything is abandoned. Not touched for a while because of other projects perhaps but abandoned I don’t think so. Most dev teams are really small so that makes things take longer and regardless of size no team has unlimited resources.
