[1.6.19.0] SU4 Beta Survey - Performance (PC)

I have TLOD at 150 and OLOD 100, Anti Aliasing is: DLSS Super Resolution. I hope it is still smooth when they release it. This is the first beta build that runs so well for me. With the previous ones, I also had stuttering

and I’ve believed that streaming delays are far longer then those of local rolling cache

Severe stutters here,

ON irregular basis, on sequence of the flight is smooth, next is not, then on another approach it is reversed, the stuttering sequence is smooth and the smooth stutters. So these stutters are not directly linked to what you see on the screen. Confusing and frustrating.

Latest nvidia driver
Latest windows update

Second flight with .19.

Black Square Bonanza Professional from KPRB (auto-gen) > KZSP (Just Flight) VFR, no traffic, no static, no services, no characters, no fauna, no ATC.

The flight, as the last one, was excellent from departure to arrival. Unlike my last flight, I experienced only a couple of minor stutters on landing/rollout/taxi.

It remains quite puzzling, the stutters.

You would sort of expect them to be somewhat consistent and reproducible in their behavior, however they seldom are in my case. They are either severe or mild, but they are always present nonetheless.

This makes judging these builds quite difficult for me. If they were all like this last flight, I’d call the build really quite good, but if they were like the previous flight I wouldn’t be able to have that level of praise.

I truly wish I understood what the underlying causes were and how to provoke and/or un-provoke them for testing purposes.

Hopefully, the next build can do something about this?

Next step: no player aircraft, no scenery :stuck_out_tongue:

We shouldn’t have to switch off half the game to get acceptable performance :frowning:

but the sound of silence is stuttering :joy: [sry, off again]

I would not use latest drivers on a 4090.

I have a 5090 and reverted to previous driver (.41?) due stutters on latest.

4090 might even be better off with 566.66/.13/.36(?) or something. Don’t have all the numbers in my head😉, but on my 4080 I did not use latest all the time. 58x.xx drivers seem pinpointed at 50xx-series. Some 40xx guru might have better info of preferable drivers.

That and we shouldn’t get stutters with all that off, as well

I’m about to take off again from KZSP and fly IFR w/ BATC & FSLTL models. Let’s see how that goes.

Just landed at KCRQ (Dreamflight).

Again, the departure through arrival had simply exquisite performance. Even flying over Los Angeles with 3rd party KSMO, KLAX, KLVB and SamScene Modern Cities at 9000’ there wasn’t even a hint of a hiccup.

I even seemed to get through final/landing/rollout without issues. However, as soon as I turned off the runway, the stutters began and FPS dropped. FPS remained dropped as I post-landing configured the aircraft. Oddly, once I began taxiing to the ramp, the FPS smoothed right back out and up to where it normally operates. There were a few minor stutters during taxi to parking.

Again, it is this last part of the flight that is remaining an issue for a number of SU4 Beta builds. I see these stuttering/performance issues only at my destination airport – regardless if they are auto-gen, 3rd party, rural or populated areas, traffic injection or no traffic injection – I am unable to find a way to mitigate them.

Thanks for the tip! Will give it a test!

these problems are not reproducible on machines connected to dedicated local streaming servers .

Not sure what that means.

I would guess he is inferring that maybe Asobo has better access to the servers and maybe don’t see our problems.

My apology for speaking for you, @OldTimer529.

Another flight, another stuttered-affected landing/rollout/taxi at destination airport.

This time KCRQ (Dreamflight) > KFLG (UK 2000) in the BKSQ Bonanza with BATC & FSLTL models (no apparent traffic injected at KFLG, either).

That’s 4/4 for stutters at destination with .19.

Did you test this without BATC traffic? I think that would help isolate if it’s the SU 4 beta or if it’s the traffic injection. Regardless of sim update, I have to turn traffic way down or off in some situations given how heavy it is on the cpu and therefore stutters when taking off and landing with a lot of sim objects being rendered and also moving.

Are these severe stutters? I normally tend to see 2-3 very brief stutters on landing, but no big stutters that would for me be a real issue.

Yes. As I posted twice earlier and mentioned in an earlier post, that with injection or without injection (plus other factors) I see these stutters.

2 of 4 flights they were mild to severe and the other two flights they were minor. Interestingly, the minors occurred on the flights with BATC injecting traffic and mild to severe occurred with no traffic injection.

Latest drivers on the 4090 are fine. I use it myself. Same is true for my PC with a 4080 Super which has nearly identical hardware (only other real difference beside the GPU is the CPU being an i9-13900K, my main PC has an i9-14900KF). The 50 cards have a problem with some of the latest drivers. In fact I have the same specs as the person you quoted (except I have 64GB of RAM and much more storage) and I run maxed out aside from TLOD at 300. I did have some stutters about a week ago but that seems to have gone away. I had to use dynamic settings for a few days but I reverted it back and it’s peachy now.

Latest drivers on my 3090 are fine for me too. (5950/3090/64GB). I think people focus too much on drivers for each beta update. Just stick to one and compare each beta. There are also way to many high FG FPS comparisons from beta to beta, like that is the only metric that matters.

May I ask: How is your performance with a Pimax 8KX in general? I’m thinking of switching from a Pimax Crystal Light to a Pimax 8KX because of its phenomenal wide FOV.
