[1.6.5.0] SU4 Beta Survey - Performance (PC)

Performance has been marginally better for me with this build, but there are still major performance issues when landing at airports like LSZH, where the frame gets very sluggish on landing and then afterward while taxiing.

9800X3D

64GB RAM

4070 Ti Super

Without changing anything, FPS has almost doubled. Pop out PFD makes little difference.

Gtx1080ti 11GB on ancient but good Dell Xeon quad core server @3.4GHz with 32GB RAM

Limited by main thread and sometimes render thread - as expected.

With Cessna on EGBB runway, dynamic rendering target of 30fps, it peaks at almost 70 fps

I had the chance to thoroughly test the new beta over the weekend, and I can say that it’s running great on my end.

System Specs:

  • RTX 5080
  • 9800X3D
  • 64 GB RAM

Settings:

  • Resolution: 4K DLSS Quality
  • FPS Limit: 50 with DLSS Frame Gen 2x
  • Dynamic settings: Off
  • TLOD: 100–400 (you know what I mean )
  • OLOD: 150
  • Photogrammetry: On
  • Off-screen precaching: High
  • Textures: High
  • Displacement Mapping: On
  • Buildings: Ultra
  • Trees: Ultra
  • Rocks: High
  • Grass: High
  • Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
  • Clouds: Ultra
  • Raytracing: On
  • AI Traffic: Off (using BeyondATC with FSLTL models)
  • Road Traffic: Ultra
  • Ships: Medium
  • Fauna: Off

Tested Flights: Fenix a320/a321

  • RPLL (Cloudsurf) / RPLK (Turtletank): Smooth from start to finish

  • RPLK / RPLL: Smooth from start to finish

  • LSZH (MK Studios) / LZKZ (Flying Partners Slovakia):Smooth from start to finish

  • LZKZ / LSZH: Smooth from start to finish

  • LIEO / EGCC: Mostly perfect; at 4x sim rate and TLOD 400 I had a couple of short stutters when approaching the UK coast. Otherwise flawless.

Performance vs. SU3:
Compared to SU3, I was able to raise my FPS cap from 40 to 50, and increase TLOD values already at much lower altitudes, a big improvement.

Final thoughts:
I really hope PMDG and iniBuilds get fixed soon so I can properly test long-hauls too. As for the atmosphere, it does look very cool, but it still needs more work, sometimes it feels less realistic than in X-Plane and more on the “Hollywood-like” side.

This is in the Fenix 320 at Zurich with the MK Studios scenery. Texture detail set to High, everything else set to Ultra. No AI traffic, no BATC, etc. Main thread is still getting hammered (9800X3D), 4070 Ti Super, 64 GB RAM):

Whats your lod settings? im using tlod 100 up to 500ft. I Will check later at the exact same spot.

Performance are insanely good. But since 1.6.5.0 I got MSFS2024 freezing every flight (no CTD) but complete freeze.

AMD 9800x3d
RTX 5090
64GB DDR5 6000/CL30

Anyone find a way to fix it ? Only thing I had to do was fully uninstall MSFS2024 and reinstall without Beta.

TLOD 50, OLOD can recall but it isn’t high

EDIT: OLOD 100

Here is my comparison:

Tlod 100

Tlod 200

Thanks. Really strange how I’m getting such bad performance. :frowning:

Yeah, it is kind of strange. ReBar? I have it disabled on my system via nvidia profile inspector.

Need to compare apples to apples, he is rendering at 2k, you are rendering at 4k.

I’ve voted this as good. In terms of FPS, it’s no different to SU3 when that worked well, but the last few days the performance had plummeted with RAM, main thread and GPU performance getting overloaded, hence the switch to the beta.

Where it shines for me is the fluidity, lower frame times resulting in barely any stutters and I think these are likely related to scenery loading in. I managed to fly over London at ~1300ft, in live weather (but no traffic), in 4k with ~80 FPS.

PC specs in profile. Most settings at High with clouds at ultra. FSR3 and frame gen on. TLOD 300, OOD 200.

Asobo Devs.

I’ve noticed that almost all of us get red numbers for large mem allocations {8M}. Presumably that means a slow alloc() call?

That might be worth investigating.

This is nativ 4k dlaa:

What sort of detail settings are you running?

Look at my post a bit above, there are all the important settings im using, its a ultra/high mix.
If you’re on the Ultra preset, you might want to try setting off-screen precaching and textures to High. With a 4070 Ti Super, DLSS Quality or Balanced could also make sense. Personally, I hardly notice any difference between native and even DLSS Performance. I don’t really see 4K native as necessary, and with DLSS i not only save VRAM, but my whole system also runs cooler.

Thanks. Looks like I’m close to what you use, so I think I know where I need to make a few more adjustements.

So, I tweaked a few things based on your advice (much thanks for that) and performance seems to be better. Though, there are still times when the main thread will be running a lot better and meanwhile the GPU is maxed out for about a minute or so before things even out again between the CPU and GPU.

Performance isn’t the issue now. It’s everything else thats broken in this build.

Hmm, you might have something that is causing the issue. Who knows what it could be. I have exactly same hardware as you and haven’t had a single CTD. I lock my fps at 50 to then get 100 locked fps with FG and it’s been rock solid at that fps with zero stutters at 4K ultra settings. TAA+FG. I even increased my TLOD to 600 when above 10,000 feet and everything is silky smooth. Apart from some minor broken things like jetways not working and city lights, which all this will be fixed by time SU4 is released, the sim is completely game changer. All with Fenix A320. It’s amazing!!
